4-2 to England against France?  You're having a laugh, aren't you?  Yes, I'm English, but I'm also realistic.  We'll get trounced by the French.

Luis Figo is my all time favourite player.  Nothing to do with his playing skills - I just think he's gorgeous!

My bro-in-law plays trumpet in the England band so he'll be out there.  Give him a wave if you see him.  His name's Laurence.

Hi ho.

What about the winners? Who do you think that will be? Hi bet in Italy. I think that they are very strong. France (of course), Spain and Portugal (but i say Portugal because we are playing in home).

I think that portuguese players are not having to many training exercises. Besides that, they are getting old. I dont know, but i would choose younger players than guys like Rui Costa that are not in good shape. Young players are more agressive because they want  to be stars and show what they worth. Older players have thousands of money and fame; their fight is over because they dont have any otivation to play. For example, i thonk that Figo is good only in Real Madrid because there he is winning money, while in the portuguese selection it will win little  money(little for him! i wish to have that money!).

Your dream was wrong! 2-1 and a great game from both teams! We have 2 serious candidates to the title.

About Portugal, well, hmmm, coff, coff...Jesus, what a childish game (from Portugal,  Greece was good)! We loose 2-1 because Portugal plays like kids, they dont know to touch the ball! We have so many good players for what? They earn so much money for this? Incredible.

Of course that we could say "Well, it was an unlucky game", but no. Everybody knows that Portugal almost didnt make any good training! They  were in hollidays for certain, because we only saw him (the players) in swimming pools, in restaurants, etc, etc. Where are the training games? What a shame...

I bet that we will not pass to the next phase, because Russia and Spain are even more difficult teams!

Well, here are the results until now:
Portugal-Greece
       2-1 [:(!](stupid players!)

Spain-Russia
    1-0

Croatia-Switerzeland
    0-0

France-England
2-1   (great game!!!! 5 stars! you should see it, 2 great titans playing hard!)

I am really curious about Holland, Italy, Germany and Rep.Chescoslovaquia (dont know the translation[:)]), since they have strong teams too.

Good to see England are back on track after beating the Swiss.  Boring game, but it's the result that counts ;)

Biggest surprise for me so far is Greece making it to the next round.  Deservedly so as well.

Did you see the last game with Portugal? Well, my country is really strange playing soccer...sometimes they seems like little cats, doing nothing, but there are times in wich they are tigers: 2-0 against Russia, does not show the great game that we made.

You should see the power play in the first minutes! Amazing! I am happy to see that kind of games.

Netherlands and Germany (1-1) was  a good game too.

Pimpx: you must be in our side, afterall, the second favorite team of portuguese people (in its majority) its Brazil[;)]! Romario, Bebetto (they dont play anymore) and others are some of my favorite players ever.

Im on your side, especially because Portugal have a brazilian coach. I didnt expect Portugal was going to lose the game against Greece, but they are going well now. Scolari said he wants to put Portugal at least fourth. I believe Figo is going help for this to happen :)

ps: i like european soccer [:D]

Being a huge football fan (and working as an "expert" [:I]) Ill give you my view on this EC-04.
Sweden is best and will win the whole thing without breaking a sweat! ...ok, thats the dreamer in me talking - although we started very well with the 5-0 (!!) demolition of the Bulgarian team... Henrik Larssons running header on the 2-0 goal gave me the shivers, what a player - and person... notoric goal scorer, perfect team player, and a terrific leader... 3 in 1 (4 in 1 when taking into account he is a great father as well) - Barcelona next for Larsson?
The 5-0 win was followed with a lucky point last night against a Italy who made us look like a youth team the first half - but their defense oriented mentality when up a goal cost them badly and Zlatan, our most gifted player through history scored the most brilliant goal Ive seen in football for a long time.
As for us, Sweden, 1 point against the danes on Tuesday is enough to proceed to the qfs - and from there, who knows... I dont think well make it all the way though - Italy showed last night that the absolute top nations when playing their best football, is still better than we are. On the other side, we showed we can avoid loosing to them even when theyre putting up their A game..... [8D]

If Italy make it to the qfs, theyll be one of the two main contenders for the trophy in my eyes - along with France, though the latter hasnt impressed so far - but what a team... it should be forbidden to have Thuram, Zidane and Henry in the same team - not fair to the other teams.

Outsiders; Spain (better get Rul-Morientes on fire if they wanna challenge)
"If everything works 100%" outsiders; Sweden, Holland, Germany and Check Republic.

Sorry Portugal, you have good technical players but it wont be enough... hope youll continuing hosting the Championship as good as youve started though.

To rap things up, heres Zlatan and the fab equaliser against the italians last night:

GO SWEDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [;)]

Probably, I agree that Henrik Larsson is an amazing player. Larsson is a big star in Scotland as he plays for Scottish team Celtic.
Although I believe his contract is up and he's moving on.
Every Celtic goal was by Larsson! Celtic will have problems once he's gone!

As for Euro 2004, I think England will make it to semi-final. Beyond that, 'only the wise can tell'.

Oh dear.... England have just.............lost.

WHY was that goal disallowed, was the referee in the pocket of the Portugese?

btw I'm actually Scottish but I support England's campaign (esp. seeing how Scotland couldnt even manage to qualify!).

What a match, I think that England deserved to win, that referee decision cost England the match.... scandal!

Douglas

PS Beckam seems to have been asleep for most of the match and that penalty!

Title: Euro 2004
Post by: Qui-Gon Jinn on June 25, 2004, 12:43:20
Actually I think it might have been a right call by the ref, very tough, but correct... hard one... John Terry was perhaps not blocking the keepers way to the ball as much as he was up there with his arms, fencing... my spontaneous reaction was that it should have been goal, but after seeing the replays - well, I cant say its wrong to disallow it.
I doubt though very much the ref could have seen it from where he was standing, I think he called the free kick in fear he would miss a rough - and the goal if allowed would have decided the game so...
Anyhow, great game - very dramatic/emotional and almost as good as Holland vs. Check Rep. footballwise, petty such games are to be decided by penalties.

Good to see the hosts make it through even though I love english football... tonight; France vs. Greece.
My pick; France to win 2-0

Pooooortugal!!!!!!!!!

My friends, the referee is not guilty! i dont understand why you say that. Just see:
- Portugal played as a master champion, very good ideed. Much better than England.
- The goal was not a goal. Every body is blind: they commited a fault over the keeper.

My biggest fear its Rep. Chezk.

Keep going Portugal!!!

England to be fair fell apart when Rooney went off! couldnt believe they just fell back and defended.

But there must have been alot of portragues people today thinking how lucky we are! that the ref disalowed what was a perfectly ligitamet goal! England 2 Portrugal 1.

Title: Euro 2004
Post by: Kazbadan on June 25, 2004, 21:38:00
sorry to say: portugal 2 england 1:

the goal its not a goal. they commited a fault over Ricardo (keeper). Over.

Portugal shuted a a kick and ball entered the the line of the net but that was not considered goal. Besides that Portugal played much better.

But it was a nice game. England its a good team. There will be more euros and world cups. Let Portugalk win this one because we will never win anything more!

At the time i write this France is gonne[xx(] Greeks are strange. Their game its not good, but hey never loose!

Woman Stabs Partner Over Soccer Match

BERLIN (June 25) - Passions surrounding Germany's final match at the Euro 2004 soccer championships turned violent when a woman stabbed her partner in the head because she didn't want to watch the game on television.

"He wanted to watch football, she didn't," said a police spokesman in the western city of Wuppertal on Thursday.

Police arrested the 31-year-old woman and confiscated the kitchen knife with which she gashed the man at the start of Germany's Group D tie against the Czech Republic on Wednesday. The man was treated in hospital and later released.

Germany lost the game 2-1 and crashed out of the tournament.

Yeeess!! We beated Netherlands! They played well and it was a nice game from both parts in evrything: the game was not a defensive one like vs england, and there was fairplay in and out of the lines. The adepts were very nice, and the said that we deserved to win, not like many others....[:)]

just kiding...

btw: now we are really f"&& because the most probable adversaire will be Rep.Chezk. They are very strong. Lets see...

This is very funny: the tournment first game was Portugal-Greece, and the last one is Portugal-Greece again!

Hope his time we win.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Figo and Ricardo Carvalho (middle defense or the like) are making a great championship. Ronaldo, its beautiful to see it playing. It looks like he is flying (it must be the name Ronaldo...this is the thir one being really good)!

Come on Portugal!! We must win!

Well, it looks like Portugal is going to get a new chance to put straight what went so terribly wrong in the opening game!

Greece has gained my respect big time!

So there, I hope Greece will be the one to fly away with the Trophy, but if your Portugal does win it's beautful too, I mean first losing and then taking revenge in the finals. Both great story's.

How great this might be for the both country's, if Netherlands would win euro2004 it would have been the funniest outcome, if you look at their piteful/lucky performances ;)

Greece as win my respect too, but Portugal too. To be honest, and this is not because i am portuguese, i think that Portugal it is playing very much better than Greece. Greece plays a little like Italy: counter attack style and i dont like that kind of cowered play.

I prefer strong teams like Netherlands that make direct attacks, or France (when they are in their best) that attack directly in the middle, instead of making flanked attacks.

Title: Euro 2004
Post by: Qui-Gon Jinn on July 03, 2004, 20:41:09
Agree, funny it should end up the same game that kicked off the tourney. Greece has been the major surprise, but I dont think theyll go all the way... they might be happy with what theyve already done - whilst Portugal settle for less than the Win when coming this far... and the crowd will be a 12th player for the Red n Green.

Hosts win by 1 and Felipo will be forever king in the land of Portugal. [:)]

Should have been Sweden though [:(!][B)][;)][|)]

Title: Euro 2004
Post by: Reality on July 04, 2004, 10:46:20
I got a hunch that Portugal, is going to beat greece badly(despite the fact that greece performed so well). Like two quick goals in the beginning, and one at the in final phase.

That, or it will be a close goal-less game like greece-vs-chechrep.

I'd love Greece to win, but at a deeper level I see Portugal win. This due to their quality players and yeah attacking playing style, like you said kazdbadan.

But we'il see it all soon enough! :)

Oh well...yeahhh Greece won!!!

All of you are invited to come to Portugal and see Euro 2004, the soccer event of the year, here in Europe.

You will see the great players like Figo, Zidane, Beckam, Khan, O.Mars, Morientes, Del Piero, and many others.

I hope that it will be a nice sportive event, with good fairplay and with very good games and many goals.
