1156  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to OBE discussions! / I am stuck! on: January 16, 2006, 18:15:18
Something I do when I meditate is write what I think is significant- I have found that it tends to reduce the chatter and things start to make sense.
1157  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to OBE discussions! / Does anyone think its evil to believe in OBEs? on: January 16, 2006, 18:10:24
Quote from: Heather B.
Gosh, I'm starting to feel that my Catholic upbringing has been atypically lenient.  I've never heard that OBEs are anything evil--I've heard that from other Christians, but not Catholics.

Of course, I come from an atypical Catholic family; my same relatives and ancestors who were Catholic (my paternal grandfather's side--of Irish and French descent) have also been known for being psychics, mediums, and even an official Church Exorcist.  And I have personal evidence that none of them have landed in Hell.  My grandfather, though dead before I was born, has been an especially great influence, guardian, and guiding light for me and and his other descendents.  A very good, loving, and inspiring force in our lives.  I seriously doubt a soul burning in Hell could pull that off!

As for the faults of the Church... I'll just say that I've learned all religious systems are corrupt and imperfect.  Because religion is just religion--one of many earthly institutions by humans, for humans.  Ideally, religion is humanity's way of discovering and becoming closer to God... but we don't always choose to pursue that purpose.  Even our religious leaders.  It is up to each of us as individuals to determine what meaning and purpose religion has for us.  For myself, after 10 years of searching, I realized that I loved Catholicism, even if I don't always agree with or even like the ways of the Church and its leaders.  As far as religions go, it's the only one for me.  But believe me--there is much more to my spiritual life and my relationship with God than just religion... and I think that's perfectly OK with God--at least, He's never given any indication that it's not!  smiley

But I had to find all this out for myself--other people's results will vary, of course.
I love what you said (except I did leave catholicism and go to a different church)- and now I have  one more thing to add:
Jason d: Consider how you define 'evil'.  What is evil? For me is the intent to hurt another or even oneself.  OBE, like any other type of exploration, is only that, exploration.  Sure, it can be used for evil purposes, but the same can be said about driving a car, or taking a walk.  The reason that some religions see exploration as 'evil' is because exploration, and thus discovery, is seen as threatening the precepts that have been set by a power structure.  But the same can be said of Science and new theories.  You will find that any institution with some amount of power will see any exploration as a threat to the status quo.  So, what does it mean to you?

You mean your real hands?  Maybe your limbs were starting to separate and your awareness was split between astral/physical and your brain interpreted them as 'crooked'? rolleyes

That's hilarious!  I may yet quote you on that.
This morning in my meditations I started seeing numbers counting down- I coudn't figure out what they were since they kept changing (like an alarm clock)- I figured it was time to get up.  cheesy
1160  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to OBE discussions! / Hi! I'm new but I need some help guys! on: January 14, 2006, 23:51:00
Maybe you can do some historical research on where the ideas of hell came from and how it became a part of traditional christianity-  There are some excellent books written about it by bible researchers. (I wish I could remember the titles) there was one by Dominic Crossan about some of those ideas- This is what I recommend- If you have an ingrained belief in hell as eternal damnation and realize that it was adopted over the years for a specific reason, maybe it will free you from the belief of it- and by the way, you should know that he Catholic Church recently released a document changing some of the 'official' stances on the Bible's historicity and something about limbo also.  I have the link somewhere.  When I  find it I'll either edit it in this post or I'll make another.
Please don't fear.  Fear is hell.
1161  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral experiences! / Just when I lost interest - it happened... on: January 14, 2006, 20:45:56
The "thing" standing in the room might be the feedback your bodies may be giving to each other by being aware of each other. There is some exchange of energy that may manifest as fear, and is heightened by the 'feedback loop' because they are close to each other.  Maybe next time you are out, request out loud to get out of the room in an authoritative manner- this may do the trick.  (I can go through walls no problem- my peeve is that when I get out of the house I usually end up 'somewhere else'.  The last time it looked like my neighborhood but nicer,  like in the future-not the past because we built our house.)
Congratulations on your achievement.
1162  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Lucid dreaming AND REALITY CHECKS on: January 14, 2006, 01:32:30
Yes.  I've used BWGen but it doesn't have an 'instant' effect- more like 2 or 3 days later.  But I've noticed my projections last longer when I use it. Why? I don't know.
1163  Metaphysics / Welcome to Quantum Physics! / quantum physics tells us: on: January 14, 2006, 01:14:37
I think (for me, of course) that is demonstrates that physical reality is completely relative, that since everything changes and needs to be perceived ( for example: there isn't a 'point' in space unless someone assigns it) then it means that reality is changeable, therefore 'Not Ultimate'.  So the Atman, would be primordial, unchanging, and there is nothing  in reality that is primordial, unchanging, therefore it depends where you assign your reality: In the primordial, where your changing physical self doesn't exist, or in the relative, physical reality, in which your primordial self doesn't appear to exist.

I'm sorry if this is hard to understand- I've had very little sleep and am not very articulate at the moment.

1165  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Lucid dreaming AND REALITY CHECKS on: January 14, 2006, 01:04:26
I have only tried once, and I didn't like it,  because when I'm in a dream, even if I'm lucid, If I stay long enough it's easy to lose lucidity.  Even an OBE can turn into a LD if you don't stay aware.  So sure, I once realized I was in a dream, so I decided to 'fly away' only to find myself in another dream scenario, one I had less control over (I lost the ability to fly, for example) angry   At the end I was jumping from tree to tree like a monkey  cheesy  but at some point was frustrated.  Of course, I've heard that in the astral planes environments become more 'realistic', but I think I just lost lucidity and it degenerated into a regular dream.  However, just because I couldn't do it doesn't mean others can't... It just seems that  there's more work involved.
1166  Metaphysics / Welcome to Metaphysics! / Higher Self as Superconscious Mind on: January 14, 2006, 00:56:43
In some metaphysical circles, the higher self is known as the superconscious mind.
conscious mind- Based on  external input, verbal, linear.  Awake mind.
subconscious mind- Based on memory and emotions, symbolic imagery,  Asleep mind.
superconscious mind- infinite possibilities; your "piece" of the connection to God mind.

In this model, your subconscious will control what awareness of the superconscious mind you have.  For example, if when you were young you constantly heard "stuff happens" your subconscious stores it away from your consciousness, and when you think of your possibilities, your consciousness accesses your superconsciousness only allowing the 'truism' stuff happens to manifest.  So in theory, if you constantly challenge negative truisms  in a way that  your subconscious mind understands,  you can "rewrite the program" to allow your superconscious mind to manifest positive results.

Well, then change  the phrase 'physically possible but highly improbable'...  tongue
And also, when I said in Infinity, I wasn't presupposing our universe is infinite-just the opposite, in my belief.
However, if I had my druthers,

1168  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Vibrations, vibrations and MORE vibrations,,,HOW:( on: January 14, 2006, 00:21:45
When you feel the vibrations, instead of trying to ignore them, imagine that you are floating in them... like floating in the surf, and you will find yourself out before you know it.

To me trying to ignore vibrations is like trying to ignore a chainsaw next to you on the bed...
1169  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral Consciousness! / Lucid dreaming AND REALITY CHECKS on: January 14, 2006, 00:19:07
Checking hands usually does it for me.  They get "melty" when I'm out of body, and usually have the wrong jewelry when I'm dreaming; but here's an exception:  The other day in a dream that acquired lucidity, I checked my hands, and they appeared normal, so I decided I was awake.  Then I stuck my fist in the wall and it went through!  Then I realized it was a lucid dream (like Dingo said, it didn't feel like an OBE) and I wished to be back in my body (my awareness, obviously).  Instantly I was back in my chair, and from then I separated more easily than when I induce consciously.
1170  Astral Projection & Out of Body Experiences / Welcome to Astral experiences! / Electric noise on: January 14, 2006, 00:11:53
Well, whatever the astral body is made of, it must be similar to light in which it has no resting mass, since anything with any resting mass would acquire infinite (or near infinite, I don't remember) mass when it approached or achieved the speed of light.  So if our astral bodies can achieve simultaneous travel (oxymoron?) they must be lighter than light! (I swear I didn't mean to make it sound so stupid- it just came out that way.)  Any physicists feel free to correct or expound on this...
