Thanks for the response, definitely some things to think about.  I guess expectation plays a big part in the non physical.

Yes I'm keeping a dream diary and my recall is improving.  I've started waking up after each rem cycle which is good as this helps.  I am a little lazy though and sometimes I'll go back to sleep instead of writing my dream down. I end up kicking myself in the morning when I can't remember. I'm improving though.

I found the ssild method two days ago and tried it. On the first night I had a vivid false awakening, I looked at the curtains and there was a game cartridge stuck to them.  I was like wtf and then I roll out of my body.
This is like an automatic response I have.  I stand up and look back at my bed and see myself sleeping, I see myself turn over.  I feel the wall and it feels solid, I can't put my hand through it.  My vision starts fading and it feels like one of my eyes is stuck shut.  I demand clarity now but it doesn't help.  Things start getting weird in the room,my bed has changed position and my body is in a weird contorted position. I think to myself I need to get out of here.  I have a feeling the experience is breaking down. I dive through the bedroom door and land the other side of it.  I turn and look to see the door is open.  I wake up in bed and write it in my dream diary.
The thing I noticed from this experience is how things are not stable like my bed, changing position and the door being open. The door I know was closed when I woke.
Is the astral like this?

Hello from the uk, my name is Col and I signed up to share my experiences with you and gain some knowledge in the process.  I find it hard to express myself on forums so I'll try my best. I've had a couple of obes which were self induced.  I tend to snap out of a dream then roll out of my body.  I don't know why but it's almost an automatic response I don't think about it I just do it, weird really. I'm currently working on my dream recall, meditating and using the ssild method.  I found the method on this site and got out of body the first night I used it, even though I wanted a lucid dream.  I've just finished reading Charlie Morleys dreams of awakening and found it a great book. My main goals are to increase my lucidity in dreams and explore them.  I want to work with my shadow, and explore the non physical.
