Your technique worked for me last night! This was (only) my second OBE, so I'm not exactly a master. I skipped all preliminary preparations, and had no vibrations, flashings, or other indicators that I was getting ready. It was
fast. This was @ 5:30 AM; I usually get up at 6:00 AM. As I did in my first OBE, I started with my focus about 2" off of a surface - this is the same as my first experience.
The downside was my wife woke me up almost immediately by rolling over

, so I only experienced the OBE for about six seconds, just long enough to verify what was going on.

This only took about three attempts over a ten second period, i.e., I lost some focus the first two times, and simply re-focused outside. It worked well, so keep at it. I'd suggest don't try hard, just gently re-focus every time any distracting thought pops up. BTW During both of my experiences I was mentally reaffirming my desire to go OB. I believe if there is any fear involved it might be difficult to achieve this state. Good luck!
