A few thoughts: Like Kiwi, I don't get the connection between the Bible code and the rest of the issues discussed, except for the possibility that you're saying that the writers of the bible knew everything already so all the bad things that have happened as a result of religion in general were created by whoever wrote it. Am I understanding this correctly?
A few thoughts: The 'jews' didn't write the whole bible- they weren't even 'jews' until historical times, when they became separate through a process of religion/colonization, etc. The religious beliefs they had, and you can see this in all religions at all times, reflected the way their society and economy worked. While some cultures saw God everywhere and in everything, (and you can see this more in societies which were plentiful in resources) other cultures saw God as someone that only favored 'them' (whoever they may be) over other tribes/cultures. You see this tendency in cultures that had to fight for resources, and I believe I'm not wrong in saying that the ancient israelites and arabs, etc. had to depend on many external factors for their survival and thus this is reflected on their belief in an external God, who resembled very much a feudal "Lord". Even the use of the term "Lord" supports my idea.
It seems to me that most religions were started by Mystics that realized that they had the power to create reality. If you take a good look at the new testament, you can see that Jesus not only cured the sick and fed the poor, but showed his followers how to do it. His mission was not to be worshipped, but to show us how to do it.
It is my opinion (and this one is mine) that when he said "I am the way and the light" he was really saying "The IAM is the way"- God, who was revealed as the I AM works through us, is being itself.
There are those who believe that Jesus was sacrificed because he symbolized the 'last' sacrifice- Before and during his time God was seen as an entity that 'needed' sacrifice, and he came to change our relationship with God- as his children, not his serfs. And thus he offered himself as the last sacrifice to be put out there for those that thought that God lacks something, and finished that ugly era of mankind, and changed how we see God.
My opinion is that Jesus came to offer and teach us the idea that we are so powerful that we can transcend the world, that we are eternal, but since we couldn't understand it from our limited viewpoint, he then showed us, by dying approx. 2000 years ago, and it worked- we're still talking about him, although I don't think we get him still.
As to religion being a destructive force, yes, I do agree with that- I do believe that very shortly after his death, the same forces that conspire to take our collective power away did it again, by suppressing what I consider the real meaning of his teachings, and substituting this by teaching us to worship him as something other than us, therefore denying what his message was- that we are all children of God, and that he is our brother.
As to religion and nationality- In effect, that has nothing to do with anything- if there is a conspiracy it has to do with powermongering, not specific to any religion.
