Gettin' whacked in the spine (hypnagogic imagery surprise)

Has anyone felt that sensation while dozing? It was almost like someone tapped my vertebrae once with a hammer or nail set.

This happened a few days ago just as I was catching hypnagogic images in the early morning. As I focused on the first image, there was an odd *TAP* in my spine (not the vibrations) that brought me halfway out of the half-sleep I was in. But then I settled into another image (saw a submarine, for what it's worth) and then a rather stronger TAP really got my attention! So I decided to get up. Nothing else of note happened for the rest of the day.

A friend of mine mentioned Kundalini, which I know nothing about.

if it's painful have you considered it could be physical? felt something like that couple of times, it could be nerves been crushed in the spine.

I've had physical tapping in my body, but not on the spine.  On the side of my legs, actually.
I just took it to be tactile hypnagogia.

Thanks but no it was not painful, and only happened just as the images were registering in my brain. After that I got up & had no ill effects. I should have mentioned it was somewhere in the lumbar region, where I don't tend to have back problems. Anyway it was not musculo-skeletal - more like a spark. Hasn't come back since.

In fact my OBEs have come to a stop too, which is disappointing. I'm wondering if it's the season. I'd had these spontaneous "hallucinations" for about 5 years (and generally viewed them as a nuisance), but only in 2011 did I realize what was happening. I had a few nifty projections - but they've all but gone now, and I don't know why.

So I was happy to see even a brief image, happy to get a strange sensation too. For what it's worth, I think these images in the half-awake state are a form of remote viewing. The tricky part is keeping your mind and thoughts out of it. As soon as I start to think, the image vanishes.

 You need to just kind of passively observe, when we put too much thought into what we are seeing it brings us back to the physical. I think the sensations you get in your back are a form of body spasms. I get them too, but have learned to ignore them while Phasing. Well ignore is hard to do, how about "tolerate" as a better word here. I found that Kundalini was extremely powerful, in a program I was listening to the gentleman teaches you how to achieve it. I can't possibly see how it could help with Phasing though, way too much focus on the physical body. But, I could see how it could jump start you if you are feeling tired.

In my experience, all kinds of crazy stuff goes down when you are on the borderline of sleep.  Noises, voices, moving sensations, imagery, prodding, poking, stroking, laughing, people instructing you, shouting at you, babies crying...etc - you get the picture!  I would say if these sensations only happen when in that state, its normal.

That's certainly true! I sometimes "hear" (in my head) a running monologue of nonsense. It's grammatically correct but makes no coherent sense. It's mildly entertaining.

By contrast, the rushing noises and the sensations of the covers moving or the bed shaking, or even something pulling my hand    are as real as normal reality. The only difference being that if I move or look they go away (and come back a few moments later).

I'm finding the images to be fascinating - some are very vivid and bright. And strange because many show writing, or even actual English, yet I can't understand it. Like I've suddenly become illiterate! I wonder if the left brain is switched off or something.
