For me life means existing / being ... creating.

Life is a product of quantum fluctuations.  

If nothingness is the highest level of entropy, life is the lowest.  If the universe appeared out of nothing, then it is likely that this nothingness is filled with something.  What that is, is a mystery.

If nothingness is the highest level of entropy, then no matter how much you rearrange it, it will always be in that state. It will still appear as nothing. Rearranging the cells in our body (or even the genetic code), however, could mean the difference between being alive or a non-living mass.  So how did the universe and life came to be? It seems very unlikely that we exist at all!  Even more unlikely is the fact that we question everything including the very origins of our existence! And then we lead lives based on illusory systems that we created.  The illuson is played so much that it becomes reality for us.  It's been given too much meaning...

One can argue that nothing is also totally symmetrical (you can't tell one part from the other). Perhaps this symmetry can be broken to progressively produce something until it gets so complex to the point of producing life...just like heat intensifying to the point of eventually producing light.



In the theory of quantum chromodynamics, this symmetry is broken once quarks and antiquarks pair up.  In quantum theory, a state of emptiness doesn't really exist as particles always pop in & out of existence.  It is thought that a state of true emptiness is far too exact or certain for the uncertain nature of the quantum world.

In conclusion, it is possible that everything that exists is nothing but the product of an excitable quantum vaccuum. Sum this up and you might as well say that something is nothing and nothing is something.

Nice post, Summerlander.

I say we fundamentally agree, life could never have existed. My philosophy takes many elements from different systems, keeps the good, and distills it down to a few salient points.
