Does the user name format give us the anonymity, and by extension, the courage to say things we would not attribute to to ourselves? Does it embolden us? Would we say the same things in the same way if we were face to face? Do I ever quit asking questions?

I perpetually run my mouth, much worse than i do here, when i am face to face.  my lady says i lack tact.  i say, i'm not afraid of my present understandings.

For most though, yes, I believe it provides a sense of anonymity and thus courage to say more.

for me, i think it gives me an opportunity to think through what i want to say more thoroughly and thus usually in a more succinct and restrained manner.
