Hi Thenoob,
I agree with MisterJingo on this one. You have to keep an open mind when going in to the astral realm as it will conform to your preconceived beliefs and notions. As a Witch myself I can tell you that the person you spoke to is not Wiccan and is certainly not a Witch. They sound like a crack pot fool who is just trying to make themselves sound much more important than they really are, probably in a vain attempt to impress you. They probably picked up a couple of books, read a few pages, and now run around calling themselves the High Magus Wizard Witch King! I can tell you that, and this is coming from a real Witch, that Magick and Witchcraft are very difficult paths to follow, and not just because of the flak the we get from everyone. It requires honor and integrity, in vast amounts. Every true Witch strives for impeccability within themselves and in their interactions with others and within this pursuit they humble themselves (or are forced to become humble by others). Very rarely will you see a real Witch jumping around proclaiming to be the reincarnation of Merlin and if you do it is best to avoid them as they are probably off their rocker.
There are a lot of preconceived notions out there about what is Witchcraft and Magick. Very simply it is not wiggling your nose and *poof* I turn you into a newt. Nor is it Harry Potter wand waving. Magick has it's basis and roots in the universal laws that govern all of existence and non-existence, hence the reason it is more effective on the astral. Magick is simply using energy to effect a change, usually within ourselves. Though it helps if you already look at the universe from the standpoint of subjective reality. A good book, and one that will blow your brains out every time you read it, is the Kyballion by the three initiates. This is basically the must have document for universal laws. One of them (The Law of Attraction) has been in the lime light recently due to the book and move called The Secret and is starting to gain real traction in mundane society.
Now, onto you question... Is this stuff real? Well first you must define real? Is it what you perceive in your waking life? To take a page out of The Matrix, and from Morpheus specifically, what is real is simply electric impulses that your brain interprets from your senses. There for everything you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell are all constructs of your mind, as are dreams, meditations, astral experiences, the list just goes on endlessly. All of it is real by that context. Really what confirms that Magick and Witchcraft are real are the fact that others who are not Witches have used the universal laws to effect change. The real question here though is what do you want to believe is true? Does Magick and Witchcraft, at least the universal laws that they are based upon, do they ring true to you, in your gut, your instinct? If it does, then it is real, regardless of what path you walk or what your definition of reality is.
Hope that helps!
