When I first started out I wanted to learn astral Projection for some interesting reasons.

Predict the lottery outcome
spy on people
make people think I had power

I was only 13 at the time but I am now 22 and my goals now are completely different. All I want to do is grow spiritually and learn what this great vast universe has to offer me. What was your guys main reason for learning Astral Projection?

My reason for learning to induce them was to be able to control them because they had become too uncontrolled and traumatic.

This is a really good question and I am surprised that you only got one reply.

I was almost 18 when I first started reading about the Hindu/Sufi Masters and their travels in the Inner planes. I was very much attracted to the notion of exploring the unseen realms of consciousness and the sheer adventure of it all.

Astral Projection was frowned upon by the particular Yoga School I was practicing in but after many years I wanted to try it just so I would know and understand from experience what people were talking about. In the course of my practice and studies I had more than a few spontaneous projections that I thought might have been AP events but without more direct experience I couldn't be sure.

I am learning a lot with regular AP practice and success.

When I first got interested in AP, it was all about having a "rollercoaster ride" and "escaping" from this reality into a larger, more interesting reality. Nowadays, after over 15 years in between of not doing anything related to AP, I am often left wondering this question myself. The only answer I can give is that I feel that I need to do it.. I don't know why exactly, it just seems to be the right time to do it. When I get out, I don't really know what I want to do or where I want to go... I know I want to do it.. just not what my purpose for doing it is other than an urge to do it and my curiousity of that urge.

As I get closer to having substantial experiences, I find myself realising that it's not so much about "flying around" as it is about becoming "centred" and "peaceful".

I guess it's to convince myself that indeed, there is life after death and beyond our physical reality...one thing is to keep hearing and reading about it and another to actually experience it... while you're still alive...
