I usually start with some stretch/relax stuff then do some controled breathing while running a full-body energy circuit, then stimulate chakras, then count down from 100 while controled breating to get into trance, repeat as nessessary. The few times I get a sensation of being merged with the bed I know I'm doing right, so I do some more energy, and try to project, realized it's going nowhere today, then fall asleep.

I was just wondering, is trance where everything goes black, ur minds wondering, u hear voices sometimes, and see stuff? Or do you just have to try to reach a point where images are coming in strongly? Whenever i hit that stage where everything goes black, my minds always wondering and when i think, im going to astral project comes in because thats what i was trying, the blackness goes away. Last night for some reason i got to that state, and i heard my door shaking violently and it woke me up, but the door shaking violently was just one of those sounds that i hear sometimes when everything goes black and my mind wonders.

Every man has their fear of dieing, whether it be of pain or not knowing where you are going, however, mine is the family, memories, and good times i leave behind.

I am now getting to a stage where I am phasing more regularly, either from deliberate effort or a side effect from meditating.

My meditation is quite simple and is based around a very basic form of RB's NEW. I draw up energy from the earth and start powering up the energy centres starting with the base & working up. I'm also mindful of the correct direction of the spin on my energy centres as I find it affect the flow. Once I get all the centres nice and tingly, I concentrate a lot on my heart centre. Don't ask me to give an exact reason why, it's something my guide told me do do, and I trust her. Concentrating on the energy centres also tends to clear my surface mind of junk.

Once that's all done i start feeling waves of relaxationpassing over my body every time I exhale. this wave feels as if it washes over my whole body from top to bottom, and with each wave I feel that bit more relaxed and less like I can move my arms or legs.

I have to make sure I'm pretty wide awake at this stage, and I usually do this in the morning, or I'll just end up falling asleep. Once I have reached the point of total apathy - just couldnt be bothered moving anything at all - I kind of let my mind off its leash and let it wander, preferably pushing it away from my body a bit.

This is the hard bit. I will tend to get a bit in the way of random hypnagogic images, but I tend to push my mind a little past that , then my focus will seem to latch on to something, and my consciousness will feel like its floating somewhere, or just instantly go somewhere. Now all I have to do is keep my mental focus on the place where my consciousness is, and stop it from thinking about my body at all. When this works, what I see goes from being a 2D "I'm watching a TV" image to a 3D "wow, I'm really here" image.

I have one particular place where I tend to go when phasing. My guide meets me there and helps me to learn new things. It is like a training ground for me. She has made it clear to me though that this method will not lead me to a full OBE, but what I am doing is practicing effective and maintained separation of my consciousness from my body, which I know will help me in an OBE situation.

Happy travels,
James.

Greetings James!

Thanks very much indeed for your excellent feedback!

We are advised to focus on the upper triangle of chakras for elevated consciousness, and in particular the heart chakra, so it is very interesting indeed to hear your guide confirm this.

Regarding  the "OBE" - I personally believe that this is somewhat of a superfluous analogy. The conventional OBE seems to be more of travelling in a copy of your consciousness, while your main consciousness remains in your body. The copy then seems to communicate with the main, and then downloads the memories upon its return. That seems to be the reason for this "mind split" effect Robert describes  in Astral Dynamics.  A true OBE in its litera l meaning, would involve the process of full  separation from the physical body, (a state known as "ecstacy"), where the entire Astral-Mental bodies leave the main body, but that is an advanced, and potentially very dangerous procedure, requiring considerably training.

I would suggest that we forget this terminology to an extent, and focus on the experience itself. Your experience, like that Frank describes, is really, I would suggest,  an "in body experience" associated with an altered state of, and raised consciousness. Nevertheless, as it, as both you and Frank suggest, this provides a much higher quality experience, with full recall, then surely that must be the objective? Unless of course anyone perceives of any advantages with traditional OBE, in which case, I would really like to hear them here.

With best regards,

Adrian.

G'day Adrian,

Thanks for that info. I was pleasently surprised to see what you wrote about the upper chakras. I knew the Heart chakra is sort of the energy/frequency converter between the upper and lower centres, but I didn't realise outside of what my guide had told me that it had particular importance. What I have found though, and I have experimented here, is that I don't get anywhere until my heart centre is well charged.

Just a tip here that I learned along the way for anyone reading this - pay close attention to the solar plexus chakra before working on the heart. Because of its link with emotions, if we are feeling annoyed or uptight at all about anything before trying to do any energy work, this chakra will tend to get blocked and won't allow any energy to the heart. It doesn't take much to level your emotions and get this energy centre working properly again, but it is a major consideration.

Thanks Adrian for you feedback about OBE terminology. It seems the more I delve into it the more it really has to do with altered states of consciousness, and less to do with telling your energy body "right, on your bike and don't come back till you've seen something interesting."
Also you're right about the level of memory retention from phasing. I consistently remember everything that happens.

It's all good,
James.

The technique I use is quite simple for phasing.

 1.  I find being a little drowsy a great advantage.  Since quieting the mind and totally relaxing is so important, for me being just tired enough (but not to tired) to get that melt  into the mattress  feeling is a necessity.

2. I close my eyes and start to relax encouraging the melt into the mattress feeling while color breathing.

3. ..... Just relax.......  let go...... Soon the hypnotic imagery starts to take effect and a good tingling develops on it's own. Remember, don't focus on your body a lot.  Just notice once or twice that it is tingling and then forget about it.   Personally I tense up when I practice NEW so I do this separately at night.

4. During the imagery I also start to feel like drifting.....drifting .......drifting towards sleep touching it's borders and back away so not to go to sleep. This happens repeatedly until the visions start or void is noticed.

At this point I think a good trance is developed.  What ever you do, don't fight your body telling it where  to be at it's focus and how.  Your body probably will just naturally flow from one point to the next.  Just be an observer and witness your body's natural progression.

Good luck!

Tracy

So everytime that i see the blackness when im trying to project but keep pulling out of sleep to project and my mind is wondering, im coming closer and closer to the void where i can project?

Yes, you are getting closer and progressing nicely.  At this point when sleep is touch and go  and you see the flat blackness behind your eyes , you may   see some sort of visions.  Sometimes I have visions sometimes not, but you should notice when the void becomes 3-D.   For me it feels like a flat blackness that has all of a sudden turned to a great expanse of space.  A great huge void like in space but without the stars.

Hope this helps.

Tracy

By the way, the Gateway Wave 1 pointers are a wonder to behold and have been a real help to many.   Even if you don't have the CDs (like me), give a look see anyway.  I would be totally lost without the kind comments of Frank and others.

these are all great ways to settle into a nice trance state.  aside from the method that you chose, the breathing tek where you hold your breath for thirty seconds, breath regularly for minute or two, and then hold again for thirty seconds has proven to be a huge catalyst in reaching even a light trance.  at first i didnt want to use it because it felt kinda cheap to cut short the half an hour time slot that it took me to fall into the same trance state.  i guess it was one of those too good to be true feelings.  i don't use it that much because i still enjoy that time that it takes to settle into a nice trance.  when i do use it though, it doesnt take that long to reach the same state.  i've found that i don't even need to be completely relaxed to use it.  i immediately feel my energy body surge after the first held breath.

I really have nothing to conrtribute here but I have a question dealing with meditation. I'm pretty sure that I can get into a light trance but it doesn't seem like I can get into a full trance. The thing i'm wondering is do you need to active your chakras to get into a decent level of trance? Maybe this is what i'm lacking? From what I can reach now I think I do get some energy flowing because my whole body is tingly.

Greetings Adrian

I'm currently trying to develop my light trance state.  I find it seems to work best either at the end of the Discovery Sleep exercise, or else when I'm relaxing and not using any type of exercise.  If I'm on the right track, this light trance state is when I start to see brief images of some sort.  This is typically some scenery or buildings or one of the astral plane entrance structures mentioned by Robert Bruce.  Last weekend, after the Sleep exercise, I got a view of my body as seen from above for about a second.  There's typically some sort of vibrations felt during this time.

By the way, is the light trance state another name for Focus 10?  I've also been experimenting with this during the daytime, when I relax my body, keeping my eyes open, and stop having any thoughts.  I find that, within a few seconds of doing this, my perception of the world changes.  It appears as if it has become much bigger and more deeply 3d and sometimes I seem to sense thoughts or emotions from animals that are passing, if I am on a bus or train.  I assume this is what is meant by the Focus 10 state.

I'm currently trying to progress from these experiences towards out of body experiences.

Blessings,

Brian

Thank you for this!

Where can we obtain the Gateway Wave 1 pointers?

I agree - Frank's contributions here are invaluable, and I am sure do and will assist many people.

When we have sufficient data, I would like to compile the whole thing into a page or two for easy reference.

With best regards,

Adrian.

No problem Adrian,

I agree with you on the importance of phasing, and it is great to hear that you are making up references sheets.  I'm not sure how new projecting into the astral using the mind is ,but since it is a new chapter in projecting ...PERIOD.... others should be able to experience it.  It makes me wonder if we are opening  a new door to the next level in spiritual achievment....   The next step up the spiritual ladder from the physical and closer to each persons enlightenment if they truely want to achieve it.

Ok, sometimes I get a little mooshy especially when I write.  http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/images/icon_Smile.gif" border=0>  I feel so bad for my writing teacher.

Tracy

ps.  If there are spots in the references that need you need help on, open a thread and maybe we can help!

Greetings everyone!

I think it is true to say that the problem most people have in not reaching the Astral, is in failing to achieve the fundamentally required states, specificaly:

A) Failing to achieve total physical relaxation - the "body asleep" state.

B) Failing to achieve the required level of trance - the point at which hypnagogic imagery appears and strengthens, and where the expansion of consciousness causes awareness of the physical body to leave.

It is clear (to me at least) that if people can learn to achieve these fundamental states, then the "phasing" into the Astral by a controlled method should be a relatively straightforward progression. Without these states, phasing into the Astral might be very difficult or impossible.

I would like to collect here a range of methods that people here utilise to achieve these Astral pre-requisites?

Thank you!

With kind regards,

Adrian.
