I am having trouble attaining a state of trance. What seems to help is visualizing a screen of colors descending from Red to Violet (and then white).  However, I do not feel comfortable using chakra-related techniques. It is a bit complicated and scary to tell the truth. I do not think I have the patience to pay attention to each one specifically and open/close them, etc.. etc...

But so far, chakra-related techniques have seemed more successful than anything else. So are there any similar techniques to acquire a deep trance without using chakras.

Something about the countdown from 'color to color' and 'body area' to 'body area' (chakra to chakra) seems to be the key, I'm guessing. But I'm just not comfortable using these specific techniques. Any input?

That's the wonderful thing about learning to meditate, if you happen to come across some method or technique that doesn't "feel" right to you... then you don't have to do it.  Smiley

For me, the trance state is one of quiet solitude.  Just you and your conscious.
You attain this by shutting down your physical awareness and ignoring your five physical senses.

Franks Noticing exercise actually works pretty good for this.

With that said, I'd like to shift the subject ever so slightly (no pun intended shifted Wink).  It's a slight shift in question, but it may help with your original query.

What do you figure to be the goal of meditation?
You mention that there are many ways to meditate... is there a singular goal amongst them?

there are countless goals also. My goal is not yours and the opposite of course.

Pesonally if you ask me i started meditation for relaxation, by the time i realized there are more, much more, on meditation.

you are asking questions that need libraries of knowledge and personal experience of thousands of people (maby millions?) who experienced  meditations of their unique and personal path.

do you Honestly  expect an answer on that?

do you think you will find one person that will give you an exact answer on that which will be solid golden rule for the rest of the people?

i doubt it....

How do you feel that each "type" goes about attaining their specific intended goal?  Just looking for opinions.  Smiley

Although, I do have a reason for asking... I'm just curious to hear someone elses perspective on it.

Also, this question isn't to you directly... whoever is reading this, feel free to jump in.  I'm just trying to start a dialog on this, because I feel it's a very important thing to learn when you're working on conscious-exit projections.
