Hi, I'm new here, and although I have done some reading on Astral projection, I have never posted about it on any forum before. However, I am very interested in learning more on the subject, and gaining insight into a recent experience I had.
I only recently became interested in the subject of AP. Although, I recalled a couple of weird dreams I had years earlier where I found myself floating near my ceiling. Which made me wonder if maybe, those might not really have been dreams, and might have been AP. I decided to use the tips I learned, and tried to induce astral projection, yet nothing came out of it, except that I would become exhausted, and eventually fall asleep. But a couple of weeks later, while my friend and I were on vacation together, we both awoke to the sound of a car alarm going off outside our motel room, it was loud enough to rouse both of us from our beds, but I was more interested in the glowing shimmering purple light, which was right above my bed, it was about a foot wide and oblong shaped. It beckoned me. I somehow sensed that this was my moment and ignored my friends complaints about the noise outside, and just closed my eyes and instantly felt myself floating upwards to the ceiling. The next thing I knew I was floating at the window, then the door, but found myself frustrated that they felt solid, and that I could not simply go through them, as I had expected. That is all I remember of the experience.  Could that purple light have any meaning? And why was I seeing when I was awake, and my eyes were open? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome!!. Well that sounds as a perfect exit to me. The car alarm just induced you the perfect time for astral projecting. About the windows, as many people said around here, it's all about beliefs. IF you think you can pass through them, so you'll do.

Now you know what to do, just set your alarm and go have fun.

Safe travels

I can only offer what happened to me once with violet light: I saw violet or purple cloud-like shapes around me in full-wake state. It was not related to AP though, but after a meditation on the crown chakra. They were not creations of my eyes somehow as they did not float with my eye movements (e.g. like black floaters do).

I once asked Robert Bruce (AP "guru" and author) in his forum about it. Here's what he said:

http://www.astraldynamics.com.au/showthread.php?11653-I-saw-violet-energy

"The little balls of light would be small spirit entities...good spirits. Attracted by your energy and what you were doing. This is a very good sign. It is consistent with having activated your crown and or brow centers.
This is uncommon, seeing this.
Next time you meditate, before you finish and open your eyes, press the palms of your hands over your eyes and gaze there through your closed eyelids. This method can yield interesting views of your energy, and even visions. Hold this for a minute or so.
Keep up the good work...."

Btw, this now reminds me that I would still need to try out his recommended method.

So maybe you got help.  smiley

Another possibiltiy is that it could also have been your"self" helping you (or you helping your'self') since from an esoteric and traditional viewpoint violet / purple / indigo are colours of the upper 'spiritual' chakras.
Violet could thus have been either the 6. / brow chakra ("third eye") or the 7. / crown chakra (although some schools teach that the 7th chakra is white). So maybe you 'activated' your upper chakra(s) in order to project.

Cheers,

Thank you for the replies.

Annonymouse, perhaps you're right in that I need to set an alarm to wake me at night in order to induce an AP. Since it never has worked for me upon going to bed. I will definitely give it a try...Thanks)

And Volgerle, I'm fascinated in the fact that you too, saw your purple or violet vision, while awake, and that it didn't move. It was the same with me. When I looked towards the widow at the direction of the car alarm, there was no purple light. It stayed exactly where it was, when I opened my eyes.. right above my bed directly ove head on the ceiling, and remained there when I looked back. And while, I only recently even learned of the meaning of chakras. Your theory is very interesting. I'm new to all of this, but the desire to learn and experience more on the subject is definitely there.

I've said it so many times. No one manages Astral Projection or decent OBE's when trying at their normal bed time. Sadly its the most convenient time to head off for an OBE.  But in truth it always happens in a morning.  Go to bed early, and sleep. Wake up early and get up for a few minutes and hopefully in your mind you should feel awake. Shake the groggyness off, so you're at a stage where you'd normally be asleep but generally feeling OK.  Now go back to bed and lay and try to AP.. Your chances are much much higher at this point.

I'm wondering whether the car alarm really did go off and your friend did want you up?  Especially to see that purple light before you were OOB?
Did your friend validate the next morning that you both were awaken by a car alarm?  Could have been some disturbance which gave you a false awakening.

I had an interesting similarish experience recently. Laying in one morning, I rolled over onto my right hand side and layed for a while. I got the vibrations and had a short but sweet projection. I woke up on laid on my back.  What I didn't realise, is that I was already out of body when I rolled over to my side. The mind is such a troll!

Hi Boom, it's interesting that you say it is best it is more apt to happen in the morning, because although I called it night, since it was still dark, technically it did happen in the morning, probably around 4 am. Just a few hours before we got up. Oh and yes, we did discuss the car alarm, since my friend was still complaining about it. She even told me how she couldn't believe how I went right to sleep, but that she heard me say something like Oh my God. Although she is an old friend, I never shared my story with her, partly because I didn't know if she would think it sounded crazy, and partly because, at the tim it felt like something personal and almost spiritual, that I needed to keep to myself and try and make sense of. This is actually the first time I have ever shared this experience. But I figured what better place than on a forum where others share and interest and personal experiences of their own, to share and learn from. BTW, can you have an OOB while sleeping on your side? I have always felt more comfortable relaxing that way, rather than on my back, but was of the understanding that it was best to lay on your back.

I remember my OOBE in which I passed through the window. It was a very interesting feeling - I remember I could feel the structure/texture/temperature of the glass. It felt very physical, cold.

I have projected plenty of times while laying on my side.

But yes, I think most of the time laying flat on my back works best.

Interesting! During my experience I just remember thinking that something was wrong, because the window and door felt normal, but I remember very little else after that. So I must have fallen back to sleep. Oddly enough, about a year ago, I rememer a lucid dream, at least I think that's what it was,...where I dove out my window and started in flying over canyons, then floated over the Brooklyn bridge. This was before I really knew much of astral projection, but in the dream I just passed through the window, but it didn't feel solid. I don't remember floating out of my body beforehand though.

Since I am new to this, I have been trying to force myself to learn to sleep on my back more often. A few times while trying, I did reach the vibrational stage, where it felt as though my shoulders were shaking. But it never went beyond that stage, and I never felt any paralyisis. Also, during my experience with the purple light, when I floated up, I don't recall seeing my body, or even my friends. But I never attempted to look back at myself, or even at my friend, I was just focused on leaving. My real goal is astral travel.

I have to leave an update here, because I had another AP experience this morning. I think my subconsious mind wants this so bad, it followed me in my dream state. I started off having a weird dream. Then the dream changed and I found myself hovering over trees, I didn't feel the sense of control I normally do during a lucid dream. The landscape just kept rushing by, and was slightly dim. During my dream I remember thinking how it felt like astral projection, and the next thing I knew I was waking. I tried to open my eyes, but could only see a grainy gray before me. I felt a little strange, and thought of trying to project, but this time sensed I would not float up. So instead I lifted my head and shoulders. I knew it had to be my astral body, since I could feel a lightness, and a true sense that I was leaving from my physical body. It was an amazing sensation, even more so than the other. Suddenly, I heard a loud shreaking almost metalic sound. it was shrieking and booming. So loud I attempted to open my eyes again, yet still, it all I saw was grainy gray with tiny specks of white. This panicked me, and I tried to sit up faster, but this time I felt my physical body moving too, and my stomach muscels moving to sit up. I knew I was back in my body, but still could only see gray. I suddenly remembered I slept with a sleep mask on, but when I reached for them, they were pulled on my forehead instead. slowly my vision returned to normal, and I could see morning light seeping through my window. Is this blindness normal and the noise? It didn't happen the first time. If so , how to you ignore these overwhelming sounds, and rise up, without your physical body taking over?

Thanks, I'm hoping things clear up eventually, or I have no idea how I could even attempt to exit the room. The noise is offputting too. As crazy as it sounds, I still have a loud ringing in my ears since it happened.

I often experience noises. It's almost as if something mischievous is trying to distract me. I can say categorically these noises are extremely realistic and sound like someone is in the house moving around. Otherwise it sounds like the radio is on. I try to ignore them.

There were a series of spontaneous OBEs and other odd events that brought me to the point where I wanted to really take up a serious study of these phnomena.

One was waking up in the middle of the night and hearing voices in the other room. It was so real that I thought someone must have left the TV on and some late night talk show was on. Usually it would fade away and I would think it was a dream and just go back to sleep. Once it was strong and persistent so I got up to go turn it off and I got out into the hallway and I could see the TV and it was off and only then did the sound start to fade away.

That was a little spooky.

It was about then when I said to myself, "alright... I really gotta try and get to the bottom of this".

It's surreal isn't it?  When I lifted what  was obviously my etheric head and shoulders, the sound was shrill loud and mechanical. Almost like a giant metal garage door being slowly lifted, then slammed shut. I just wasn't prepared for it, and obviously startled myself back into wakefulness, which I really regret, because it felt so close to happening.

It's sort of the same with me. I have always been a strong lucid dreamer by nature, and some of these dreams have been so life-like and real, I decided to do some research into them. Which only recently led me to learn about AP. Since then, I have tried to learn all I can on the subject, since I keep coming so close. I do think there is a connection to suddenly be woken  from a dream, (especially a lucid one) and then finding yourself suddenly going out of body, since it happen to me twice. Love this site... there is a wealth of information here.

Thanks, I had another near experience lastnight, but I am afraid, I still can't say I did any real astral traveling. The weird thing is, I have come close 3 times, yet each experience was totally different. I floated in silence, when I saw the purple light. After my other dream, I lifted my etheric head to loud screeching noises.

Last night, when I went to bed, I decided since my mind wasn't the least bit sleepy that it was a good time to try and induce another AP, by making my body go to sleep while keeping my mind semi conscious. I had my eye mask on again, and after waiting patiently started to see swirling shapes, again in (purple) Then I felt my lower body stiffen. It started with my toes and feet curling...this was not under my contol, with a feeling of pins and needles, that spread up to my calves and thighs. The next thing I knew I was forced to arch my back. I was trying not to panic, even as my heart started racing. Then I heard a loud humming sound, that seemed to come from behind my headboard. It was like a bunch of lawn mowers going all at once. But when I tried to lift my (etheric arms) instead I found myself lifting my physical arms, which felt really heavy at the time. When I lifted my eye mask, I could see my niightlight in the corner of my room, and I realized I was not seeing anything unusual, and that I was once again awake, and the sound was gone. Maybe I needed to wait longer, I don't know, but it felt like I it went on forever. and I just wanted to step outside my body. Anyway, I have only been trying for about 6 or 7 weeks, and guess I need to be more patient.

Yep, patience is the key to success. You're doing great actually, more than great. For what I've seen you're one step away from archieving it. You just need to guet use to those feelings/noises, once you are ok with them, and can ignore them or be confortable with start travelling my friend  wink

Thank you for the words of encouragment. Although, it's like entering the great unknown for me, I really want to have a chance at the full experience. I feel I have come close enough now to know that AP is very real. Yet was totally in the dark about it, like so many others until recently. The thought of it is somewhat spiritual to me, since it seems to confirm, that while are bodies are temporary, our souls are eternal, and will one day travel on to a new realm.

"Wait longer" is the opposite of what you need to do. Just go. Right then and there.

You are one baby step away from projecting with all those separation signals blaring. No... not even that... maybe one half of a baby step.

Try to muster up a sense of urgency. Think of yourself in an airplane, at jump altitude, the door is wide open, you are over the target zone and the sergeant (who happens to be your Guardian Angel in camo-fatigues with wings sticking out the back) is screaming at you, "go, Go, GO!!!!"

Something like that.

Oh! So I might have waited too long? It did feel like it went on forever. But I really didn't know what to expect since each experience was so different. I'm not even quite sure what method is the right one? I have heard of the roll out technique, and the rope technique, but wasn't sure which one to try. The only time I came slightly close was when I lifted my head, and I read that the head is usually the last to go. I only know while my arms were heavy, my legs were like dead weight, I couldn't move them. How do you know when you body is ready to seperate? And which method to you  think is the most effective? I have to leave this morning, but will be checking back here later tonight. I would love to gain some insight on how and when to seperate. Thanks
