I will try to make this brief, but last night I believe I had my first OBE via astral projection.

First off, I am a complete noob to all of this. I stumbled upon Steve Jones' website a few months ago and was very intrigued, so I watched some videos and read up on some techniques and decided to give it a shot. After a few nights I didnt really get anywhere and was too busy with finals and all to keep focused. 2 nights ago, i decided to give it another shot as i am on winter break and basically have no responsibilities to distract me.

The first night, I was just trying to get myself to remember my dreams, maybe have some lucid ones with luck...as recalling my dreams is in itself something that rarely happens unless i focus on it as i drift to sleep. It was succesful, as i remembered a few dreams that were quite long and eventful.

The second night I wanted to attempt astral projection. First, it may help to know that for some reason the bed I sleep in at home is extremely comfortable, and if there is nothing to motivate me to get out of bed in the morning then i will often wake up briefly, if even only for a few seconds, before drifting back to sleep and in and out of dreams. I will hover on the brink of conciousness like this for about two hours before i actually wake up every morning. So during one of my dreams this morning (the second one i can remember) I actually woke up in my dream (in the exact bed and house i was sleeping in) and the TV was on so I went and turned it off. My friend popped in and told me he was leaving, so i decided to go back to sleep (this alone is wierd considering i was dreaming to begin with). Thats when it happenned...

I was using the target method and rope method. First I began to think of some very familiar objects in my basement. Focusing on them as hard as i could. Then I imagined that invisible rope hanging from the ceiling an inch or two above my head. I raised my arms and began to pull myself up. At this point, I could distinctly feel the vibrations many of you describe pulsating throughout my entire body. I could feel my consciousness rising upward. I opened my eyes and saw my room. It was quite dark (darker than it was when i awoke) and there where these bright little with lights that seemed to dance along the ceiling. Realizing i might be astral projecting, my head basically exploded with excitement, and perhaps a bit of fear. I did what any noob would do, thought of my body and snapped awake laying face up in my bed (i usually sleep face down) to excited to continue trying. It was about noon at his time. (I went to bed around 4am)

The whole experience lasted about 5 seconds, but it felt very real. Does it sound like im on the right track? how can i prevent myself from getting two excited or thinking of my body and waking up? any input would be helpful thanks.

It is a typical first experience. You will get more calm in the next experiences, so that these will be longer.

Congrats!!! That's definitely the start of an AP! I get too excited sometimes too and mess things up. Ive been reinforcing the thought of staying calm during my waking hours so when I sleep/AP, I'll remember easier.

Greetings Light
Going out of body directly through a lucid dream (or a non-lucid dream) is one of the most effective methods of inducing an OBE. If you can regularly become lucid during those nightly dreams then it should be relatively easy to have OBEs on a regular basis.
What cut short your OBE was probably the excitement as strong emotions usually curtail the average OBE. That's just something to be aware of so the next time you get out of body try to keep those strong emotions under control.

Cheers  smiley
