"a setback is a setup to a comeback" :)

Hello, I found these boards searching the other day on google for astral projection and I have been on this site like every free chance I could reading the stories of others. I have always been very into and interested in paranormal anything including obe's and now astral projection. Usually I don't have many people to talk to about these kinds of things because so many people I know are closed off to this type of thing and think its "bad". I clearly don't agree. I am so blessed to have found this site to share and gather information. Initially I was searching for information on how to have lucid dreams in an attempt to control my dreams and then somehow I ended up reading for hours upon hours on astral projection.

I took a Parapsychology class at my local college a few years ago (luckily I got in on the first class they only offered it for 4 semesters and only 4 schools in the world at the time) which was the best class I have ever had at any educational level. We touched on all sorts of topics including OBE's/Astral projection and lucid dreaming of course. I at the time couldn't really remember my dreams to well and our professor said to us that if we can't remember our dreams and want better dream clarity if I said it enough nights before I go to sleep to remember them then I would.   I took that suggestion and for years have been remembering most of my dreams some of them are way more vivid than others. I had a dream last week that felt extremely real. So real I woke up and was  emotionally attached to what was happening in the dream and thought about it all day.  This happens fairly often. Sometimes it could be the reverse though where I'll only remember in the morning time and by the end of the day the dream is a distant blurred memory. That sparked my interest again in lucid dreaming when I was searching about lucid dreaming I came across sleep paralysis some how which interested me greatly because I have 2 very distinct memories of waking up completely paralyzed( i have never freaked out so much in my life those seconds felt like hours) I saw that there may be a link to obe's and astral projection and hence my very renewed interest in all this.

I have some questions that may seem silly but I am so new to this that I have to ask Smiley

first How do you always get back into your body? is there a chance you will not return to your body?
If I was astral projecting and someone attempted to wake me up would I wake up?
I've read some where that random twitches and jerks in your legs arms etc right before sleep may be an indication that my body is really relaxed and that may indicate a good time to really try?

any help and information anyone is willing to give me would be so great. I am happy to have found a community of people who are filled with knowledge and from what I see have been very welcoming to others

Welcome to Astral Pulse, Stellina757.

I don't think there is a link between them at all; I think they are the exact same thing.

Quote
How do you always get back into your body?

However you want. What is important is the intent to wake up, not how you try to wake up.

Quote
is there a chance you will not return to your body?

Don't worry about that. It might be possible to die while having an experience, but I think I would rather die while having an experience than while awake. At least in that case I would definitely know where I was and possibly what had happened.

Quote

Yes, you probably would wake up. Your body would do everything it could to wake up as a possible matter of survival, and would likely bring your awareness back to the physical.

If you're aware of the twitches, then probably not.

Also, I don't think you should "really try" to project. I think it would be best to focus on going wherever or doing whatever you have planned and to go with whatever happens, rather than to try to force something to happen. But, that is what works for me, and it might be entirely different for you.

Hi and welcome, stellina757,

OOBEs are certainly NOT bad and count yourself lucky that you know about this. Start projecting as soon as you can! wink

By the way, in my opinion (and it is what my experience indicates)...OOBEs/AP/LD...all the same. I call it the Phase state. It is very much elusive but it also provides immense potential to do whatever you like. Some of my experiences with it - especially the ones when I decided to conduct my own OOBE study - make me suspect that telepathy (quantum entanglement of minds?) and precognition (possible/probable future templates viewed?) are possible among other things.

But this is me. Let me warn you that there is a load of cobblers being spread on the Net about this subject. My best advice to you would be to enter the Phase, see it for yourself, and draw your own conclusions unbiased by anything that you might have read or heard. Experiment and see what you can do with it. For a pragmatic approach on the subject, this is a very good site:

Yes, I get these too. Non-lucid dreams can be extremely vivid to the point of emulating physical reality and completely fool you. Also, not all lucid dreams are clear or vivid - though in most of my cases, once I become lucid, the clarity and the environment improve in quality.

Quote
Sometimes it could be the reverse though where I'll only remember in the morning time and by the end of the day the dream is a distant blurred memory.

Write them down as soon as you wake up. Make some notes in a diary or something. The more you write, the more you may remember. Pay attention to the thoughts you had upon waking too as these are likely to lead you back to the dream. Review what you've written at a later stage and you may remember more. Also, dream memory may come during the day when you least expect it without the need for conscious effort to remember. By the way, according to recent scientific experiments, it appears that the same brain mechanism associated with waking memory is involved. Here's some threads you might want to check out:

first How do you always get back into your body? is there a chance you will not return to your body?

You always get back! When I induce an OOBE, I focus on staying out for as long as possible. The longer the better for me. Don't even worry about returning. You don't have to. Once you start, you will wish that you could stay longer every time.

Quote
If I was astral projecting and someone attempted to wake me up would I wake up?

Absolutely! Quite recently, I was having an OOBE and my wife kicked me in her sleep. I felt myself instantly back in the body as I perceived her foot moving away from the surface of my leg. I posit that we, as a consciousness, are everywhere at once, but, where we are consciously, we are unconscious everywhere else. In that case, my focus was absent from the body and aware elsewhere until my partner kicked me which required my immediate physical awareness and the roles between the conscious and the unconscious were reverse again. I became conscious of being back in the body and unconscious of being out. We are in and out at the same time...get it? grin

I've read some where that random twitches and jerks in your legs arms etc right before sleep may be an indication that my body is really relaxed and that may indicate a good time to really try?

These are hypnic jerks. They are often caused by irregular sleep schedules (which can prime you for OOBE induction) and indicative of nothing but the fact that you were slipping into the hypnagogic state and instantly became alarmed by this which caused you to return to the waking state. They are like muscle "hiccups". cheesy

By the way, good luck with your attempts. You'll be projecting in no time! smiley

Wow! Thanks so much for all the information and the warm welcome! Smiley  I am like ridiculously excited to learn about all this and to experiment. The funny thing is I am not afraid at all of what will happen once your in the "astral" but I am more leary of the feeling of leaving your body I'm afraid I may allow a mental block to let me really do this. I'm sure the more I read and the more comfortable I get with the this all I will be projecting/lucid dreaming in no time Smiley Another question how often do you all choose to project? What's common for you?

Welcome Melissa, I find that if you believe you are just phasing out in consciousness instead of leaving the body, that any fear goes away. Enjoy your travels. All these guys and gals on this site have been incredibly helpful. I have learned more here, than any books I have read on OBE's ever. If you get a chance try to read Frank Kepple's posts. There are 2580 of them. Xanth has put them here on this site. They will answer any questions you have on Phasing/OBE etc. Highly informative.
 Good Luck!

Welcome! From one noob to another! Just something that's helped me that you might be interested in are the Monroe institutes hemi-sync CDs, you can pretty much download them at any filesharing site. The gateway experience set is helping me a lot. Don't know if you'd be interested or if people consider it cheating but hey, it works for me! No matter how you choose to get there, good luck! Hope you have some great adventures!

Depending on your beliefs surrounding this subject, you might not experience any "exit" sensations. It's just something to be aware of, but to not think or worry about too much. But, if anything like this does crop up, it's important to continue practicing and to become used to it.

Quote
Another question how often do you all choose to project? What's common for you?

My last recorded experience was about halfway through the November of last year. I try to practice everyday, but sometimes often I've let other things get in the way... Now that my latest problem (sleep) is (seemingly) resolved, I'm going to try to get back into my routine.

I wouldn't say that. There can definitely be some issues, but, again, they are dealt with through practice to become used to them. At the start, some things might be unfamiliar to your sense of protective awareness, which will assume it is a possible threat and will pull you back to "save" you from it. Just remember that nothing will harm you, and, again, continue practicing.

I wouldn't really recommend that. If you want to try a binaural beat track, there are plenty available for free and legally. You can find one on Xanth's website, here. Of course, that track doesn't have a voice guiding you.

If you do use them, don't get into the habit of using binaural beats every time you practice.

If it helps, then a very good Astral Projector who used to frequent these boards called Frank Kepple doesnt describe it as "leaving your body, as you are never in your body in the first place"  I think Monroe agrees with him there.  There is the theory that your conciousness does not reside in your body.  But you are merely focussed on it. When you astral project your focus widens so that you can see more of the big picture of reality.  So dont think of it as leaving your body behind.

Welcome Stellina,

I am also new here.  I have had a couple of interesting experiences but have not yet managed a projection.  It will be interesting to see how you progress also.  I am keeping a journal on here of my experiences on this journey and have found that everyone is extremely helpful and knowledeable as you have probably already realised.

Quick question for Chris J.  Is there a problem with using audio technology to assist in projection as I use Binaural or isochronic sounds everytime I practice?

As long as it doesn't become a habit, I don't see a problem with using binaural beats. If it becomes a habit, then you might have problems projecting without using them.

Thanks Chris.  Interesting you should say this becasuse when I went to bed last night I started to get vibrations even though I wasn't even trying to project.  Suppose that proves to me that I would be capable of achieving a projection without Binaural beats if I tried to.
