It could be some kind of 'realm barrier'. Like a magnetic field that is harmonized to the individual and the plane. Perhaps you are encountering a shift of polarities within the astral state.
I don't know? I can only share my experience. Only recently flying has started again for me. Seems like I'm always trying to reach the Moon, there's something there that is both dangerous and kind to me. But when I'm flying up to reach the Moon, other perceptual activity distracts me and the experience turns into some kind of video game. The feeling, which you would be interested in, is first like a rush of energy, and I fly upwards at chaotic speed. After that, there is usually something that prevents me from rising up any further than, say, the power lines. Maybe it IS the power lines. I get up so high, and some kind of object will manifest to pull me back down, in some way. Sometimes, it's even been the Moon itself that pushes me back down and away.
The feeling, I'll try to explain, is firstly a moment of focus, a determination to fly away. As I rise up, sometimes I can get very high. Then, visuals and objects get in my way, and the feeling is like my energy is being drained. I don't know if you can relate to that or not. When I'm suddenly stuck, or dying, I always wake up back at my body-reality, or, I will wake up at my body and immediately project again, with similar 'no you can't fly away' results.
I experienced this swaying side to side this morning. This might help you! Perhaps it is your bulk of past experience/ future experience causing an imbalance in your focus. Try using your memory in deep meditation. From the sounds of it, you would be one of these guys that could reenter any point of his life and alter it by living it again. Like a quantum leap of sorts. Or, you just need to balance out your memory and imagination, and recondition your sub conscious to have vital astral controls. Your immensity of future potential could be a potential loop back to the past. That's amazing. I've never heard of anyone that was lucid while just walking around, unless we all have moments like that and just aren't aware of it. Way to go. I tried!
