Is it possible to astral project or remote view into a novel and to experience ''life'' as a character, like watching a movie from within the book itself?

It should be possible do basically anything you imagine - that is the fundamental limitation. It has always been a goal of mine to enjoy some favorite fictional works as a participate or virtual reality observer.

On the other hand I have never read or heard about someone having the level of control to actually carry out an authentic and consistent experience like that.

Yes, imagination will get you there. But once there, the story would take on a life of it's own. I can't tell you how many times I have become aware in some kind of "cartoon" environment.
It would be hard to, next to impossible to continue the written narrative of that story, because you wouldn't be able to control the other characters. Those character would likely have the characteristics of the book narrative, but the "plot" would soon change.

I have become aware in LDs that I was in some kind of TV episode or movie environment, like "Friends". The characters were all the same, but the plot wasn't one that I had ever seen on the show. I wasn't embodied in one of those actors though. I was still me or at least I "thought" I was still me.

When I was younger, it was often a "wrestling ring". My father was good friends with one of those TV wrestlers, so we often got tickets and went to some events. I would become aware in a LD that I was in the ring with one of the greats. I wasn't myself though. I was normally some "fantasy" superstar wrestler as well. But, I could control "my own" actions there.

Once I was spiderman, jumping around between skyscraper walls of a big city, shooting out my net from my wrists, swinging and then making summersaults, and later hanging head-down with my net into a yard.

Here's Mr Leland on the Human Culture Zone:

Quote
it’s possible to enter the world view of a famous person or the plot of a novel, play, or opera and experience it as real–at least as real as anything you’ve personally lived through on Earth. Verbal descriptions can’t convey the vividness, the depth of immersion, possible when you enter a world view or novel plot here. Unlike a virtual reality game, it’s indistinguishable from life, and satisfies a hunger to know anything you may care to know about that person or novel so thoroughly that mere thrill seeking seems like a waste of time.

I know what you mean, "Hero" dreams are quite prevalent in many of my LD's. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it was "Retrieval "scenario" or not.

Thanks for the share of that link Volgerle.  smiley A walk down memory lane. Everyone needs a bit "rehashing" once in awhile. I have read much of Kurt's material. It's good to have a "re-fresher course" once in awhile.  wink

Great post and great responses.  building a custom rundown per Frank's technique might be one way to get you there.  Much harder to stay there.  Now I will say the act of attempting very well might lead to some cool regular dreams where you are interacting in the novel setting though.

And it would also be a recreation based upon the way you see the story.
That's the thing with a book vs a movie.  In a movie, you have the visuals and "life" of the story already sussed out for you... so chances are good, that is how you'll see it.
With a book, you create everything in your head.  Imagine Harry Potter if there were not any movies.  How would it look to you if you were to immerse yourself in the Potter world?

My intuition says that I would be able to have an experience like so: carefully set the intent to live out the plot to a particular episode of a TV show. You review the episode and make sure it is clear you aren't going to wander away with it - then project in.

Has anyone ever tried to what I described? Any luck?

Certainly but they are never the way you might expect. Xanth makes a great point and that is my secret reason for preferring books over television. You'll never know just how much I hate the Grinch Christmas movie, lol. It just in no way matches the story in my head since grade school. smiley

I haven't ever thought to try that Thaomas but that would be quite the experience.

Lumaza you bring another question to mind. Is it a male predisposition that causes male apers to think in terms of rescue?

Good question. Another would be, is it a female predisposition that causes them to think in terms of being the "victim"?

My upbringing taught me that you protect or help, no matter what sex you are. It is a part of you. Not a expectation on you.

That take on it made me wonder.  People could have two ways of going through these experiences.  They could have a custom-made adventure set out for them by astral projecting into a movie and just relaxing and enjoying the scenery, or they could activelly take part in the developement of the story, like 'choose your adventure' books back in the day and tailor their own experience to their own liking as they go along. Wouldn't surprise me if I was to find out some famous novelist uses astral projection as a source of inspiraction.

wow that's a good idea i can project or lucid dream into one of my books to help me, actually finished the story off and come up with more storyline for them, right now i'm stuck on one of my books and don't know where to take it next, the characters (about 25 of them) are now just sitting there surrounded by goons, (the goons) awaiting their master to arrive to figure out what to do next, right now they hear her foot steps coming down a long hall towards everything now its an anxious wait. ok a little bit  of the scene, the goons have broken into the heroes hideout and have them all surrounded now they waiting on orders.

See, this is actually one of the misconceptions of what astral projection is.

Anything created by a human mind uses astral projection... most people call it their "imagination".
Most people have little concept or idea of how closely imagination and astral projection share the same mind space.

Xanth is correct!
