I've enjoyed reading the posts on this site for a good while, and I always make an effort to read the accounts of people attempting to project. I look for the mention of the vibratory state -for me it's a kind of 'authenticator'. I know if they mention it, that their accounts are likely to be something more than imaginary excursions or dreams.

I think there is a lot of subjectivity in the discussion of OBEs and astral projection, but there are some objective factors. One of these factors is the 'vibrations'.

I am very familiar with the vibratory state; I grew up with it as a kind of 'nightmare' sound, and because I was always paralysed when I heard it, I used to think it meant I was trapped half-way inside a bad dream.

I'd lie paralysed as a child and I always thought it was the noise of a bad  dream coming -strange, murky experiences would tend to follow it, usually heralded by the arrival of a nasty creature in my bedroom. I used to call it 'The White ET'. I don't know what the hell it was, but I would float around the room terrified while it gloated at me.

I know better now, and still sometimes have the experience of lying, immobile in my bed, hearing a distant rushing of sound filling my head, getting louder and louder until...I either freak out and force myself out of paralysis or I leap into a projection.

It's the key indicator for me that something super-normal is going on, and an important distinguishing mark between a normal weird dream and something else.

What are people's experiences of 'the buzz'?

I would say that energy is electricity. While in the physical world a difference in potential (voltage) is usually induced by an imbalance that causes a flow of electrons, this "bioenergy" seems as though it is either spawning electrons or creating some kind of electromagnetic current "out of thin air."

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about quantum physics to expand on that, but I would say "bioenergy" seems to have the same properties as electricity/magnetism.

The way in which this electricity interacts with the physical body really "works" well with the different energetic functions of the cells that compose our body.

My experience with vibrations has been mostly this:

At any point during the day, I usually feel the vibration throughout my legs, particularly on the soles and top of the feet. I thought for the longest time that it was just blood flow. When I got my first full-body vibrations, that's when I realized it was probably more than that -- it seems my "energy" starts out in the soles of the feet and rushes up slowly through my legs (I think there might be a blockage at this level ; not sure if it's causing energy to well up in my feet -- working on it). Then it passes through the stomach and when it reaches the heart, it's like an explosion. It rushes straight to the head and the whole body feels as though it is bubbling.

I've only had one projection where I felt the vibrations as I was exiting. They actually woke me up as I was sleeping. After building up and dying down several times, the vibrations came back full-on and I somehow "became" the vibrations and floated up, and then it all settled and became calm, I was able to see, got stuck in a window, etc...

This happens to me too. It's like a buzzing sensation that randomly occurs. However, when I experience the vibrations full-blown, I'm not sure whether or not they start at the soles of my feet. Usually it starts off as a wave over my entire body and then becomes especially strong in the head area. I should pay attention next time.

I have experienced quite a few different buzzes during my OBE and energy explorations. The one I will refer to as the archetype buzz is very raw and powerful. It is like tremendous amounts of electricity roaring through my body (always in a paralysis state) which quickly spreads into my head and is felt as an immense roaring in my ears. It sounds what I imagine standing next to an immense waterfall would sound like. I’ve just woken up from a nap where they visited me Smiley.
The vibrations can take on different intensities with me, sometimes they nearly physically hurt, or along with them I feel crushing pressure – like I’m being spread into a flat 2D plane – or that infinite pressure is pushing my mind.
Other vibrations are ones I’ve noticed during energy work, or trance. These are quite gentle, and just have a different feel to them. They’re more a ‘fluttering’ felt throughout my body rather than the intensity of the ‘vibrations'. During daily energy work I can feel a watered down version of these vibrations all the time, becoming more pronounced when I’m sitting down and am unoccupied.

The sounds and feelings asociated with leaving the body isnt just limited to people whom experience OBE's, but NDE's as well, here are a few examples.

The men let go of my arms ... I heard a click and a whirr. The whirr went on and on. It was getting louder. The whirr was inside my head and my knees were made of rubber. They were bending and I was falling and all the time the whirr grew louder.

Jayne Smith

At that point I felt something leave my body. It was a whoosh. It went up through the top of my head. I could feel it and I could hear it. Just a gentle whoosh. At that point I found myself standing in a kind of gray mist. Then I knew I had died.

Pam Reynolds

Quote
The next thing I recall was the sound: It was a Natural "D." As I listened to the sound, I felt it was pulling me out of the top of my head. The further out of my body I got, the more clear the tone became.

And so on, though not every one whom has had a NDE experiences the sounds, but is interesting nethertheless.[/b]

Here's my take on the subject of vibes.

Each astral realm consists of a vibrational state, or frequency. While in that state, we, our conscious, is tuned to that particular frequency. That means we are "in phase" with the frequency of our environment. Because we are in phase we don't feel it nor are we aware of it. When we prepare to OBE, we phase shift to a different frequency which puts us in another dimension. The transition in phasing is what we experience!

Pretty simple, eh?  cheesy

I have had the buzzing in my body as people have described here, but there is a different kind of energy I experienced 2 nights ago, and I have felt it ever since. Even now I feel a kind of shiver in my back. It is kind of cold.

After my experience, 2 nights ago (a failed retrieval, I stuffed it) I was woken by my partner at around 4.30am to ask what on earth was going on. I told her of the incredible detail of my experience, and for more than an hour after that, lying in the dark, I had this shivering energy flowing up and down my body, or just moving around. I wanted to fill my body with it so I could have another OBE, but it moved around like a wave, whenever it wanted to. I couldn't consciously control it. Ever since, I have had this icy shiver in my back, which sometimes surges just for a second. In fact as I write this, it surges when I focus on it. Interesting it hasn't subsided even after a couple of days. It was fairly intense when I came to after my OBE.

Is "astral projection" an accurate way of seeing things that are happening around you in "real time"? as in, when u astral project, can u see what people are doing, saying and see everything in real time.

or is it just a journey of how your mind remembers your surroundings?

I usually hear the 'buzzing' both at separation and return.  For me, it actually seems louder and more intense at return.

And I can't describe it as a buzzing but more as a loud, intermittent rushing static sound.  It's like the sound of a channel on television with no signal (you know the snowy channel)... but not constant... its in and out in regular intervals like vibrational frequencies, and somehow feels distorted as if in slow motion... if all that makes any sense.

I usually hear that along with feeling the strong pulling sensation of separation AND re-re-entry.

Can I say once again.... that I believe that something electromagnetic is happening here? Maybe we can feel/hear the electromagnetic attraction of the energy body and the physical one, at the exact point they are being pulled apart or being 'pulled' together. Like magnets....

Imagine two magnets.... when stuck together, you can't feel any force between the two.  Now pull them apart just slightly, and you will feel the attraction of them. (this is when I believe we hear the buzzing) Now pull further away, and the magnets will be too far apart to exert any forces on each other... (we are out)  now bring them closer together again as if returning. You will once again feel the magnets attracting each other (again, at return you can hear the buzzing). The magnets will SNAP back together (we also tend to SNAP back into our bodies) and then wake up.

I believe we are actually hearing the the electromagnetic forces at play - we are hearing the energy. There just HAS to be science buried deep in these experiences (at the quantum level). ...the Rosicrucian in me speaking again... hehe

Hi, I am new to the forum, finding some really good info here. I had years of going into the vibratory state then sleep paralysis before having a full blown OBE, it was because the vibration and pull was so intense it hurt, I feared to lose control. i would go into state I call "scanning", it felt like I was being loaded with info, needless to say I would be perceptively sensitive in real life following . Almost 2-3 years ago, I was in the vibrating state and I heard a sound vibration so loud, so very loud it was if it were not meant for a human being, I literally felt pain from the decibel that nobody else could hear. I woke up, and I was terrified, I wondered if i was something alien, if it was my cell phone sitting next to the bed. i have never been able to figure it out, but it was my most memorable sound experience. Also, if anybody reading this would do me a favor and go to the other forum and look at my post on feeling physical sensations during your OBE and reply that would be helpful. Thank you

there is there is.....who says you can not have it all, there is science and spirit and the keys to the Universe, it is mind boggling. We have just been conditioned to think of the 2 separately. God= Love+Science BANG!

my brother studies quantum theory at uni, and i asked him about this kind of energy, this buzzing energy that people experience. The only explanation he gave to the tv buzzing sound you described, is anti-matter energy, which was created at the big bang. He said that particles do have an abilty to gain extra energy from what seems to be nowhere, and it happens randomally. but it is negligable. he also said that particles exist in two states, but we are only tuned in to see them in one particular state. He said basically that everything we see is "there" but also "not there" at the same time... and that particles have the ability to be in 2 places at once... this then goes onto the theory that energy can not be lost and my brother lost me at that point. lol

okay im sure you can describe these experiences etc, but are you sure it isnt just something conjured up by the mind itself? how can you be sure that this synergy exits?

He is talking about wave-particle duality, which states that matter can act like a particle AND a wave at the subatomic level.  We only perceive the prticle like nature of matter.  Quantum physics experiments like the double slit diffraction experiment let us see into the microscopic workings of the universe... where at this level, things get confusing as to what we have always known.

My take on this.... the 'Ether Theory' would explain it.  That everything is in one giant pool of energy (the ether) and that our reality is made up of ripples or vibrations in this pool.  When you think about it, all the empty space we see, there HAS to be a medium.  For a vibration to occur there has to be a medium that the vibration travels through... when we look deep into quantum physics and see that matter acts as waves as well as partciles, then there must be a 'medium' that the waves are travelling though... not just empty space... does this prove the existence of etheric plane??  Imagine the implications if they could prove that!

yeah but how can this science be linked to astral projecting. how can quantum mechanics be linked to this?

how can you be sure that when you are projecting that your mind isnt just making up the whole experience?

if someone could astral project in the room next to me and see what i am doing, then tell me what i was doing when he/she projects back, then i would believe it.

i am not sayin that you have never astral projected, i am trying it myself and i can feel viabrations and progressing, but im convinced that my mind is making it up.

The only way I can explain it is.... when you are successful at an OBE, you WILL know that it is real!  There will be no doubt... you will actually feel more lucid than in the waking state right now!  It's hard to describe but it's true.

I remember one OBE that I had (spontenaous... most of my OBEs have been spontaneous) I remember waking in the afternoon after a nap.  I was in sleep paralysis and decided to play with the SP.  I didn't actually try to OBE but I just kind of let myself 'go' with the SP feelings, and that time, instead of kind of jumping from being in my body to a perspective out of it, I actually remember clearly passing THROUGH my eyelids!  Like I just floated upward and I actually saw my eyelids as I apssed through.

Then I was in my room, beside my bed, and I was thinking, ok... there is NO doubt this IS an OBE and its real... ok so move toward my desk at the other side of the room. I moved fluidly.... I could see my room, and my desk and everything was as it should be... it was an etheric projection.  I turned back and I could see my bed AND my body laying in it.  Of course that instantly pulled me back...

But it was the fact that I actually was awake and aware of passing through my eyelids that got me.... there was NO doubt after that one!  That was when I was about 22 years old... about 8 years ago.

But seriously, during an OBE you will know its real..  and ot just a dream or a figment of your mind.  Though in Astral Projection, that can get a bit tricky as you can create by thought on the astral plane... but for a RT (etheric) projection, you will know.
