Yeah, Aleister Crowley wrote it. He wasn't exactly Christian.

Hi hindukush,
I think you and NLC are talking about two different books of the same name. I looked at the Amazon website and there is the book by Aleister Crowley, and also the book you mentioned, entitled Book of Lies : The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult by Richard Metzger (Editor)
Here's something from the Amazon site:
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
Disinformation_s "wicked warlock" Richard Metzger gathers an unprecedented cabal of modern occultists, -magicians, and forward thinkers in the latest in the series of the large format Disinformation Guides. Just as Russ Kick_s three Guides focusing on secrets and lies from the mainstream media, government, and other establishment institutions rethought what a political science book could look like and whom it would appeal to, Book of Lies redefines occult anthologies, packaging and presenting a huge array of magical essays for a pop culture audience. Just some of the contents:
An introduction by comics genius Grant Morrison, who also contributes a three-part article on Pop Magick.
Mark Pesce, author of The Playful World, compares computer programming and spellcasting.
Genesis P-Orridge, father of Industrial Music and Rave culture explains how samples in a rave song can have magical consequences.
Paul Laffoley discusses his magical artistic strategies (Metzger compares Laffoley to Merlin the Magician).
Magical Thinking_an extended excerpt from Daniel Pinchbeck_s Breaking Open the Head.
William Burroughs and the occult.
Nevill Drury, Australia_s most noted occult writer, tells of Dion Fortune, Austin Spare, and Rosaleen Norton.
Why Does Aleister Crowley Still Matter?
Donald Tyson_s "The Enochian Apocalypse Working." Were the seeds of the end of the world sown in the Elizabethan era?.
The first ever biographical essay on Marjorie Cameron, the fascinating character from Los Angeles_ occult and beatnik scene.
Hitler and the occult_Peter Levenda interview by Tracy Twyman.
Robert Temple on how his book The Sirius Mystery_s, controversial thesis (for which he was ridiculed) was proven by the Hubble telescope twenty-five years late.
An exclusive Anton LaVey interview by Michael Moynihan, author of best-selling book Lords of Chaos.
Erik Davis, author of Techgnosis, looks at H. P. -Lovecraft_s Magick Realism.
From the Publisher Book of Lies: The Disinformation Guide to Magick and the Occult Edited by Richard Metzger
Published by Disinformation Books
Oversized Softcover • 352 Pages • ISBN 097139427X
An alchemical formula to rip a hole in the fabric of reality.

if your talking about "the book of lies" by crowley then yeah i read it and didnt really enjoy it as i had no idea what he was on about... call me crazy, but why write a book noone can understand? the guy is so pretentious, it seems to me he was just a lonely kid who got into black magic and for the sake of his own levity, used it to intelectually belittle the people he couldnt get on with... i beleive he knew some things which others didnt, but to ramble on about things noone would understand shows that whatever he did "know" lacked any proper wisdom. his holier-than-thou attitude didnt say much for whatever he was into..

It makes more and more sense as you go. Pick it up after 5 years of occult study and a little bit of it will stand out, and so on and so forth. As for the man himself, he's dead, all we have is a body of work which speaks volumes.

Well, other than some cute poetry, it contains an Eucharistic ceremony, an expansion of the Lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram incorporating Thelemic ideology... More "occult" knowledge helps a great deal. When I first read it i was all "wtf" but keep going back to it every now and then. And not to wave the Crowley banner or anything, but he wasn't into black magick. The very suggestion is the antithesis of everything he believed.
