hi all---my first post!

I've had this problem ever since I began meditating and trying to have OBE's. I get to a certain point of concentration and / or relaxation, begin to feel my physical body's sensory input fade away...once I get to this point my heart always starts beating really fast (yes it's my physical heart, I've put my hand on it and can feel it thumping) and my breathing gets very frantic and irregular.

Apart from practice is there any trick to getting my body to just stay quiet so I can be on my journey? I feel like the doorway is within reach for OBE's or deep meditation, but my body is keeping me inside the physical plane.

It seems to be the breathing that's so hard to forget about. why is something like breathing, which is so automatic all day long and during sleep so hard to ignore when meditating and doing energy work?

any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem undecided
When I reach deeper trance the (physical) heart starts racing. After some practice I managed to stay focused even longer and then, after the heart beating, I heard strange high-pitched noise and felt pressure in my head.
I couldn't pass that so far, but I guess more practice needs to be done. Then after these symptoms occur you may lose consciouseness for a second, "click", and regain it flying over your physical body. Wink

Btw. reaching OBEs via meditation is quite difficult as far as I know. Beginners are usually recomended to try other methods (e.g. LDs).

Zephyrus,

it's great to talk with someone who has the same problem, and who's progressed past it.

so, how long did it take you to control this rapid heartbeat problem? Do you have suggestions how to overcome it?

And, have you had problems with irregular breath while entering a deeper trance-state? My breath seems to take my mind off of being concentrated..it seems my physical body has a deep instinctual fear when "I" am leaving it.

I also have heard intense hissing / wind noises when phasing between physical consciousness and trance. INTENSE!

If you have any more insights, I appreciate them SO MUCH....

You just have to stay focused on your breathing (or blackness bhind eyes, or sth else) and don't get distracted by heart beating. I found that counting breaths helps me, "1" -breathe in, "a" - breathe out, "2" - breathe in, "b" - breathe out, and so on or concentrating on the stomach going up and down while breathing.
In time it's getting easier, but still I consider it to be quite uneffective for me, and I resigned from this method of achieving OBEs.

I hope you can go further than me. Good luck! Smiley

i do have this same problem when relaxing, whenever i get into a deep state of relaxation and start feeling vibrations my heart starts racing and  get real excited cause it makes me think im close, i think im quite impatient too.

i had an experience the other day and its probably the closest ive come to being out, i was relaxing for ages and i got close to a state of having vibrations and i did a visualisation exercise once i had finished that i was having intense vibrations, i tried the rolling out technique as people have said this is the easiest but whenever i try this my body moves instead and wakes me up lol, so i tried the rope technique instead and it felt as if my body was halfway out and i couldnt go any further, then for some reason one of my eyes opened on its own which woke me up then i couldnt get back to where i was.

since then i havent been able to properly relax everytime i try some relaxing exercises i get really uncomfortable and have to move

Imho , hypoventilation and hyperventilation will cause difficulties in maintaining meditative trance due to distractions of sudden gasping for breath or racing heart etcetera . Over time you will develop a natural breathing in meditation , this can come from diligent practice . If it continues you might try searching archives here for hints or on the net or sitting with a meditation teacher . Buddhist Centres , Yoga Classes and spiritual churches often have local meditation instruction at a nominal cost .
