Serrano peppers... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serrano_pepper

My lips burn, and my tongue is on fire. grin They only gave this a level 3 heat rating which shocks me. It felt like I had been maced. I am really getting into nutrition so I been looking into peppers. These babies are a little hotter than jalapenos. Not after the burning feeling subsided I noticed that for the first time in I don't know how long... I could breathe. I have a deviated septum and horrible allergies. Every allergy pill I have ever been on doesn't work. I can breathe through both of my nostrils now. Usually I can only breathe through one all day even when I sleep.

These babies are pretty hot... But it felt like it cleansed my body somehow. It gave me a HUGE boost of energy and cleared my sinuses instantly. I know this sounds nasty but I was kinda almost foaming at the mouth.  huh I don't eat too many of these guys... but if my allergies are getting the best of me... I found this helps clear out all my sinuses. Water was coming out of my eyes... but my allergies just vanished. I heard peppers are pretty good for you too. I contains some kind of chemical, (Forgot what it's called) but I guess it's good stuff. I will have to read more on it. I just thought I would share! It's the only thing that got rid of my allergies. It lasts a LONG time too. Be careful though, it got hard to breathe for a minute. Maybe next time I only need half. Or I can chop them up and maybe put them in my eggs or something.

Just thought I would share. It's amazing what food can do that medicine never did for me. =D

Peppers are great once you overlook the fact that spicy isn't a flavor: It's the stimulation of pain. I'm glad you found a way to combat your sinuses. And I'm sure peppers are a ton healthier than chemocal concoctions. From what I hear they are very healthy.

Just a word of warning... They hurt a lot more on their way out.

So true... It can be tear inducing.

I love chilli... Kath and I both do..  Adore them in fact. Maybe this is why we never get a cold.

Well done Cody... chilli also releases endorphins apparently.

My dad has always grown his own peppers as far back as I can remember, all kinds. The Serrano peppers are the most interesting.

You can pick five peppers from one plant and they will all have varying degrees of heat. Ranging from nuclear holocaust to very mild.

All the other pepper plants may vary as well but only from plant to plant, not from pepper to pepper from one plant.

Serrano peppers are great... like one is booby trapped.  cheesy

I will say... I cheat because there is a slight difference in the red hot ones I think. The hot ones seem a lot more Scotch Bonnet-like. This of course may be the particular strain of Serrano peppers we have here.

It is probably the number of seeds... I don't know if it applies to serrano's, but alot of peppers have the majority of their capsaicin locked up in the seeds.
