Hello from the uk, my name is Col and I signed up to share my experiences with you and gain some knowledge in the process.  I find it hard to express myself on forums so I'll try my best. I've had a couple of obes which were self induced.  I tend to snap out of a dream then roll out of my body.  I don't know why but it's almost an automatic response I don't think about it I just do it, weird really. I'm currently working on my dream recall, meditating and using the ssild method.  I found the method on this site and got out of body the first night I used it, even though I wanted a lucid dream.  I've just finished reading Charlie Morleys dreams of awakening and found it a great book. My main goals are to increase my lucidity in dreams and explore them.  I want to work with my shadow, and explore the non physical.

Hi there! Smiley

For first, try to always write down your dreams to a dairy. I use my PC for this. If you can remember your dreams in almost full detail when you wake up and run to write them down that is cool, I'm doing it too. Just get up if you want to and do it.

The second one is, try to tell yourself with a little imagination, that you are aware when you are asleep in your dreams. This can help too.

Yes I'm keeping a dream diary and my recall is improving.  I've started waking up after each rem cycle which is good as this helps.  I am a little lazy though and sometimes I'll go back to sleep instead of writing my dream down. I end up kicking myself in the morning when I can't remember. I'm improving though.

That's great Cheesy Keep on going and try to program your subconscious with "already happened" like statements. It will help. I did this.

Hi Col and welcome. Looks like you are on the right track and have a good handle on what you want to achieve. Phil has good advice. I would only add that if you don't want to write in detail when you wake just use key words. As you write the key word commit it to memory and go back to sleep. I have found this to be highly effective and requires less energy.

Aaand another useful practice could be, that if you woke up, try to keep the dream in mind. Now for me, I can grab the most, like huge dream blocks. Therefore, your brain will fill the gaps as best as you can to reconstruct the events.

Why are we saying always or me that you need to first remember them? Because you are living your dreams up in the non-physical as you try to AP there or phase. The physical world is just a big label, which differentiates this current life from the source. The real life continues there after you fall asleep, I think Robert Moss said this similarly. I like that man, full of - in the moment - attitude and joy lol.
