Hi Everyone -
I was tempted to post on another thread but actually here is probably the best place to start! I said old newbie - I'm not that old (early forties) but I've come back to giving projecting another go after perhaps a 15 and 25 year hiatus! My name is Jez and I live in the UK - I gave myself that moniker (Practice_Patience) as that's what I think I'll need to do!! I've had a few premonitions in dreams in my time, but never quite got to 'lucid' dreaming - so starting to try some techniques! I've had a few flying dreams and it's exactly as described in the literature, floating swooping and controlling, zooming up into space (edge of - limits of imagination?) - but the last few occasions I've done it I've been so convinced that this time I'm doing it in the physical reality that I remember saying to myself 'wow - I've done this in dreams, but look, I can do it in real life now!' - which, I suppose, is amusingly missing a real opportunity! rolleyes
My gran gave me a book on self hypnosis about 25 years ago, and she had obviously managed to have an OOBE, but she told me it freaked her out so she went straight back to her body! She has alas since passed over now, and is surely much more comfortable with it now!
When I've attempted this in the past, I've certainly had phenomena like the bell clang, or my name being called, or feeling presences in the room that I think I've spoken to. It's all been a kind of twilight state of mind. Since trying again (I'm starting with the rope method) - the other day I got a high pitched buzzing in my ear, like a mosquito, and I was so excited I just came straight back to physical consciousness. Patience! Since then - nothing - although getting to sleep is much nicer now that I'm meditating when I go to bed! I know - not the best time to try. I work night shift and I've got kids - so it is a quiet time. I think when I come round about midday and kids are at school may be a better time to try! And I possibly need to 'de-calcify the pineal gland' - diet - lifestyle adjustments etc. A very good friend of mine has recently started to see aura's, and my fiancee (of 19 years lol) has found she has some mediumistic ability, so it just feels like a portal is opening again. (Don't worry - it's not like I'm in competition haha, just a good vibe on subtle energy investigations).
I will search through the forum and do quite a bit more reading - it'd be lovely if any want to share their thoughts on where I'm at - at this early stage - and if not let me just say a warm HELLO!

Love & Light, Jez

Self hypnosis was Edgar cayces method of projecting/ phasing as well.

Yes I noticed the link for Edgar Cayce, thanks. And also Tom Campbell, I hadn't come across him before. (Although he's not talking about projection per se).
It seems there are lots of ways in (or of gaining awareness). At the moment, as I say, I getting to sleep better, but I'm not quite yet knowing I'm in a dream. Every day while awake (or night as that's when I work) I keep asking myself if I'm dreaming - or telling myself I am, and trying to fly haha (when no-one is looking) and eventually that habit may stick. My friend Bob who can now see some auras has been setting the alarm at random times on his mobile (cellphone) and it says 'You are Dreaming' - these things obviously take time to sink into the subconscious!
I wanted to ask about the quality of the experience of projecting in comparison to the unconscious and the lucid dream state. My dreams vary in intensity, some are just vague hazy dreamlike images, some of the premonitions have been quite strong, and seem to have a 'slightly' different quality. I've not actually had a 'lucid' dream yet, but I imagine it's similar except one has conscious control. I've always imagined that projecting gives a far clearer and quite different experience to the dream-state - people talk of being 'hyper aware'?
I've seen some here say not to have expectations - and hopefully I'll discover this by my own experience - so these are perhaps questions that can't be answered so directly, and I'll have to practice patience. And search the site and read other peoples stories!
Just thought I'd throw it out there.
Thanks for the welcome smiley

Welcome to the Pulse!

You asked about the 'quality of experiences...intensity, strength, lucidity'...

This varies from person to person, their level of experience, the specific experience itself, and many other factors, some known, some not yet known.

An early, very general rule might be that the quality of your experience will vary just like it does beginning with your dreams: early on they are of low lucidity, with little to no conscious involvement and are poorly remembered. This only changes if you make the decision and exert the effort and Intent to participate more within them. Then you will begin to see improvement in various areas. Given some eventual proficiency, you will find the next area of growth opening up for you which may include early OBE events or other psychic phenomena. As each area opens to you, you will have to make the same decision and effort into developing your abilities within it. And this usually begins slowly and with small steps. Low level of perception means low lucidity which means low understanding. As your ability to perceive within the new environment develops and increases, your lucidity will increase and, as a result, your understanding will grow.

Right now you can focus on developing your ability within your dreaming. With proper effort you can become so aware within your dreams that you know exactly where you are and what you are capable of. This leads to a level of awareness that feels super aware .

Welcome Practice!

Sounds like you have a great start and actually may be almost there if you are hearing sounds and feeling presences in the room.  For myself, if I feel a presence in the room with me, projection comes immediately after.

I'll second that too. The presence is the unconscious sleeping body, it's yours and you are connected   to it telepathically and this is the sense that you'll eventually find a great help eventually.

The slight buzzing was just after my 'first(!)' recent attempt. I was so chuffed (as there clearly wasn't a mozzy in the room, anyone who has had one of those know they bug you ALL night!) and that excitement of course totally brought me back to the physical. Those other phenomena I have experienced in the past, but not for a while. There seems to be something very curious about accessing subtle energy realms - you really can't try too hard. Sometimes gently asking and not expecting works, but then when you have received something (for instance, I've asked for a premonition before - and got one) but should you ask again, thinking you've cracked it - well, perhaps a little 'ego' may have crept in and you find it doesn't come to order. It's not a pizza after all! Oops!
Last time I tried, I was thinking a lot about APing, and so that would have helped, and perhaps I gave up just as I was getting closer?
And what about the lifestyle aspects.... I work nightshift (fairly long hours driving trucks), I drink coffee. I don't eat junk food hardly at all, but I still eat dairy foods and bread. And I think over recent years I've become more absorbed in the material realm. So, I think there may be work to do. That, of course, could just be an illusional mental block I'm applying to myself, so, paradoxically - I'm aware of that and so have every confidence it's totally possible to start building awareness and gaining success! Perhaps the dietary/lifestyle aspects are different for different people, for some it matters and others not so much. Anyway - now I'm going to look up more stuff about de-calcifying the pineal!

I realise the power of visualisation, as once when I was massaging my partner I decided to imagine a great light from the universe coursing through me to me fingertips and immediately she exclaimed 'I don't know what you're doing there but that's fantastic!' Although other times I've tried she hasn't said anything lol. Trying to hard? She got used to it?
She actually has a bit of skill with Reiki, and I think that's helped with her new found apparent mediumistic abilities.
It's quite funny, as when we met 19 years ago it was me with all the new age/spiritual ideas and she was a bit (not too much) sceptical! grin

I eat plenty of bread a dairy and have no problems projecting.  The only dietary thing I have to keep in mind is I need to have a nearly empty stomach at the time I project.  It doesn't matter so much what I eat at other times (although I would stay away from too much sugar) as long as I obey that one rule.  Everyone's different in that respect though.

Good luck with your journey!  Smiley

Thanks Soarin12 Smiley
I should imagine everyone is quite different, although funnily enough I gave up sugar in tea and coffee again a few months back, but my sweet tooth (particularly night driving) needs curbing again! If only for health reasons!

I have a small update on progress I'd like to share. The telling myself 'I'm dreaming' yielded a little result a few days back. I was having my second lighter sleep in the morning and in my dream I was reading a book, and for some reason the book seemed to be too outlandish (which is crazy as a fictional book could be as surreal or unbelievable as the writer wants), but anyway, I seemed to think that it was so ridiculous that it created a dream trigger and I just said 'I am dreaming' - and this was followed by a sensation I don't think I've ever experienced before - it was like a clean quick shuddering, similar in texture perhaps to velcro being pulled apart with a feeling akin to a cross between mild vertigo and a shiver down the spine, but nothing quite so physical. However, I was immediately aware of my position in bed, curled up with my eyes closed. I presume this could be a reverse of the vibrations and my astral body came back to the physical - any ideas? Obviously after that I was a tad disappointed I didn't get to take control, or actually find myself in a full conscious projection.
It's all good, I feel like I'm slowly breaking new ground already, so I'll just try to maintain focus, thoughts about AP and visualisations. I seem to be dreaming a LOT more since coming back to this though.
I suppose another thing is to not care too much and be 'easy' about it?

This is an example of what I was talking about. Your awareness is opening up within your dreams.

Sometimes it comes with a shuddering, like a small earthquake or a kind of ripping... It's a realization within your dreaming awareness that reflects only partly into the Physical, but is very important to your Non-Physical awareness.

You noticed the dream trigger (and you almost talked yourself out of it! Lol). That is a significant accomplishment! And the realization shook through your 'bodies'. Idk, maybe its an energetic re-alignment of some sort; all I know is that it feels pretty huge to me when it happens. Your awareness became aware of the fact of itself...Boom!

Each new area opens in unique ways that we learn to be open to. We then have some fun, learn some proficiency, and then a new area opens again.

You will experiment with control next time...it is baby steps at times. grin

Great job!

Hey EV, thanks.
I had to chuckle to myself as I re-read my post and yours too, just out of a little sense of joy. It's a kind of substantial baby step, to keep the appetite whetted! It was pretty cool! Well for me, at this time.
I intend to keep the intention, and literally, practice patience. It seems that for some it is just the way of things that there may be nothing for a while. So I'm doin' ok! grin

It seems to be quite a trick - to get the proficiency to observe these phenomena without - in my case - getting a bit excited!  rolleyes

To reiterate: yes that was a substantial babystep! You should be looking forward to the next experience. And yes, controlling your excitement is part of the process...welcome to the adventure! Sometimes our points of progression are very subtle, they feel almost mundane. This was one of those, at least for you. That's okay, you have friends here to holler 'Hey! That was important!'

Which it was.

The 'second lighter sleep' can be great for this stuff! This is how I get many of my own opportunities.  Remind yourself to look for the dream trigger, then realize your awareness and ask for an experience/lesson/adventure...whichever occurs to you, your higher self will provide.

This will open your next adventure. Enjoy!

I am starting to record my dreams into my phone when I wake up. They are coming thick and fast these days, and seem to have a bit more depth and colour, with more specific conversations. Like asking the groupie of the band I was watching where you are from and she says the little witch island in the corner of the field. And when the drummers lost their rhythm as I thought about it (I have a bit of thing with 2 handed drumming - a hang up perhaps) that should have been a DT! It's so deep how one gets tied up in the dream! Anyway - I know I will remember soon, I'm sure, and hopefully I'll be deep enough but conscious enough to ask for that lesson/experience/adventure!

Dream Triggers (DTs) ha ha...

It's amazing how we subconsciously avoid and ignore them!

I'm glad to hear your experiences are coming thick and fast; I look forward to hearing about them.

My last DT was so obvious and yet I "pushed it away" like 4 or 5 times in a row...and it was so current and mainstream!

Whatever semi-lucid dream scene I was viewing...I kept getting an Internet pop-up window that I kept x-ing out...and about the last time I deleted it, I recognized the message in the window:

"Do you realize you are dreaming?"

I woke up from that and thought, How stupid can I be?! grin

That's very funny - also funny cos we always X out those cursed pop-ups!! Very funny cos a friend of mine has just fixed my computer from some add-on that had somehow defeated AdBlock and it made this site nearly impossible to come to due to ads and pop-ups and re-directs. Thankfully he has sorted it out. Luckily he has a sixth sense (his words) for finding this kind of thing and rooting it out!

Perhaps our subconscious likes to tease and play games when our conscious wants to just say 'hello'.
