Why hello there.

Hello, just thought i'd introduce myself.

My name is Jacob, I'm 17 (nearly 18) and currently a senior in High School. I'm a relative newbie to this sort of stuff so I was looking for a place to turn for information and guidance, and I came across this website. I consider myself to be a very....well... I guess you could say I'm a bit of a skeptic. I find it extremely hard to believe in things without having any sort of proof or personal experience in the matter. However, when I first read about Astral Projection it just made too much sense to me, and seemed far to believable for me to dismiss it without first trying to learn more about it.

It also really "lined up" with the way I view the world (I guess I should explain how that is?). I do not have any sort of religious faith in a "higher power", yet I do believe in Ghosts and things of that nature (based on personal experience) and I had a hard time trying to explain how one could exist without the other. I came to the conclusion that there must be energies in the world that we do not yet understand, and are unaware of. (If that makes any sense? I feel like I sound like an idiot when i try to explain this.) I also am a strong "believer" in all things scientific. I suppose I look at the laws of physics as a Christian would The Bible.

The whole idea of an "Astral Plane" REALLY works as an explanation for the paranormal things I believe, while still not going against the truths in the world I hold dear. I suppose you could say that it is a fantastic loop hole for me.

So anyways, enough rambling. I'm really excited to start my adventure of learning about, and hopefully someday experiencing an Astral Projection/Out of Body Experience.

I just REALLY need some help, I'm starting from scratch here. So I hope very much that I can find the information, and help I need from the members, and the information they can supply, here.

Right. My first major question is a simple one: Where do I begin?

I've never even meditated before. So where do I start from? What should my first step be?

My recommendation for starting off...well... if you're one of those over-active mind types, i suggest not even clinging to those thoughts, just let them come and go. Although there are so many different ways to go about contemplation, meditation(in its various forms), energy work, projection and so on. Why dont you check out the various information related to the subject, figure out what might work out for you and try it out on a trial and error basis instead of asking us, who dont even know you, what might be best for you. It's a very, how do you say, personal path on which you set about and letting others influence you in a way such as this might not be very wise, so go do your own research before asking us about such things. Perception is everything.

Also on the different planes, nothing "paranormal/supernatural" is solely on the Astral plane, just keep in mind that as we have varying definitions about it and online discourse can become quite confusing.

Thats a very good point. I read a little bit about some relaxation tricks before I went to bed last night, and tried them out before falling to sleep just to see if I could get myself to even relax a little bit. I also used one of those biaural beats that are supposed to put you in the theta state while I did it (I used that as more of a white noise machine, to block out the sounds of my house). I did it for about a half hour, and managed to have my mind mostly empty the entire time. Near the end of the half hour I started to feel heavy and start to feel like I was spinning a bit.

So I suppose my first goal will be to just practice practice practice relaxing.
