Practice. Start with some one you know. Think of them, what they are doing at that time ( better if not in room ), Then while you are thinking of them ASK them to open thier mind to you. It is important to ask. If you don't you are attempting to force your way in. This requires a lot of practice. Also there are things people want to keep secret and this allows them to do so. Plus if you manage to force your way into some one or try to do so it can cause some problems with that person. They will see things that they don't want to. Some from thier own mind and some from yours, but the images are usually dark in nature.
Item 2. Open your mind up when you are talking to some one face to face. A connection is already there because they are actively thinking of you and the conversation. If you open your mind you may be able to hear/see some of thier thoughts. You can gain more out of the conversation that way because people can not always say everything they are thinking.
Above all don't pry. People don't like to be forced open. And besides you never know what you are getting intowhen you look into some one. They could be stronger than you and not take kindly to the intrusion if you know what I mean.
