A Gargoyle guardian--- what?

 I have a question about an obe experience. A few years ago, when I lived in an apartment building, I decided I would try to roam the halls of my building - in spirit. I successfully left my body and got out of bed. I made my way to my door and as I started to go through it I had the most marvelous idea that I was going to break in to my neighbor's  ( a single guy) apartment and look through his stuff. I went through my door and ,to my horror, there was this large black gargoyle-like creature sitting next to his apartment door. It looked like a cross between a bear and a dog. I should mention that I wear glasses and during an obe I am just as near sighted as I am in my body, so I couldn't make out it's details. It was just sitting there and didn't move.

I was about to turn around when I thought, "Hey, I worked hard to have this obe and I am going to go into his apartment and go through his STUFF!" That's all I was going to do- I was just being nosey and that creature wasn't going to stop me.  I crossed the hall , went past the creature, and made my way into the guy's apartment. Just when I thought I had made it inside I felt something clamp on to my leg and BOING I was flung back into my body! Boy was I mad. What was that thing? Does anyone know? It didn't hurt me, but I was startled. Was he my neighbors guardian? Why did it stop me? It obviously didn't want me to astrally (is that a word?) break into my neighbor's apartment. Has anyone ever come across one of these creatures? For a long time I  entertained the thought of telling my neighbor about his guardian ( if that's what it was) but I thought better of it and decided not to tell him. I know this creature wasn't a manifestation of my subconscious because I was very determined to go where ever I wanted .
Over the years I have often thought about that strange encounter and wondered if there are rules we have to obey when we astral travel. And --if there are rules perhaps I was breaking one of them by trying to intrude on someone's private space. Any ideas on what that was and have any of you encountered similar entities? Thank you.

 Hi Moonstone, it looks to me like that was a test in how you would handle a fear situation. It looked like you passed with flying colors. When you saw the Gargoyle, you showed no fear, you also made the conscious decision that it was not going to interrupt your current OBE scenario. Congratulations.

LionHeart- it did though. ( interrupt the obe). It grabbed my leg and pulled me out of the door. That caused me to snap back in my body. He didn't hurt me.  He acted more like a gentle bouncer at a night club. LOL

is your neighbor pagan, or has something to do with the 'ancient gods of summer and Babylonia'? <.<!

did you noticed something weird (no so common in other ppl's houses) in his apartment on the physical objects, probably over a table or on the walls?

I didn't get in to his place the Gargoyle thingie stopped me. He was a very nice guy. I don't know if he was a pagan. He might have had some Indian ( Native American) in him, but I am not sure. I just know that the large creature was either guarding his door or making sure I stayed out of trouble. My daughter might remember something about him. There is something that I didn't mention before. My daughter moved into the apartment building next door and she had a lot of strange activity in her apartment building of a malicious nature. The building was built near a graveyard. After we moved out of our building a tornado leveled it a year later. No one was hurt. This was in Illinois.

i was told by a couple of strange looking astral  humanoids once that I had visited forbidden zones, can't remember breaking any rules though.

usually gargoyles are messagers or guardians of something or someone.

it would have been interesting if you would had got into his apartment

 Perhaps the Gargoyle was there to break you of an impending bad habit. Which would be invading someone's privacy. There are definitely rules in the Astral Plane.

I think you're right, but I also think people do it all the time. I suspect that those grey shadow people and some ghosts are really people who are astral travelers. If those gargoyles are the police force of the astral realm, I wonder who or what sent them there.

In my opinion the gargoyle- instead of being an actual astral entity- was a creation of your own subconscious mind. You expected to run into some "trouble" when going to rummage through some guys stuff. In the back of your mind there was a hint of disbelief that you'd indeed be able to go through his stuff. Many of the things we experience in the Astral are just simply things we experience from our own minds. There may be some truth to it, but mainly, at our consciousness level our subconscious mind interferes with the actuality out there.
