Yes I read this in a few places and people seem to think rice helps cause sleep paralysis for some strange reason!? you guys know if this is true or just nonsense? if true then why would it cause it? do any other foods help encourage it? thx.

Eating lighter foods makes better sleeping and can have supportive effects. Rice is light food.

Heavy food as beans or meat are not so good, if consumed in high amounts. They lead to a deep and bad sleep.

But dont expect too much, and dont forget, that hungry people can also not sleep well, so that the effect of eating only rice is not everlasting or a fast way to success.

A medicore food is the best way. Not to heavy and not too light. So you are not hungry and dont sleep too deep.

I can't say I've ever heard of such a connection before.  Anyway I personally have my doubts.  I've never had a problem with sleep paralysis after eating rice with my dinner.

I eat lots of rice and have only had a few cases of sleep paralysis. My two cents.

I had a diet coke, and 5 chocolate chip cookies last night and had about 5 cases of SP and an OBE this morning. I don't think food has a lot to do with it but that's just my opinion. grin

Someone I asked about this to posted this about it in regards to why it helps them get SP. Does it seem viable to you guys?

I experienced a hectic couple of nights after eating rice, sleep paralysis happened over and over, I think it is because rice digests and there is lots of sugar going in your system, if you don't know rice contains a form of sugar that will increase your triglyceride level, so it a different form of sugar that will keep you up as if you ate sugar, without the sugar rush, therefore your body is very much gonna feel awake as your trying to sleep, and thus you get sleep paralysis.

I for one don't quite see the connection beyond it being light on your system. It would not be because of the rice, but because the function of rice. I would think it would completely depend on the individual.

Hi,
Maybe being more specific may help.
Think about the different types of rice and where they're grown.
You dont send a friend  to the supermarket and say" get food", you give a list of foodstuffs, each individualised item is different. Its all collectively called food.
I like some rice but not all. Do I like rice?

Maybe it's a secret combination, like fried white rice made after midnight on a full moon. Or you could just learn OBE techniques. But I get it, rice is so much easier.

Sorry I missed this post....

Triglyceride isn't a sugar... it's an Ester that is used like a carrier compound for storing energy... i.e. fat.

So while you were asleep your body was storing more fat because you werent using it...

But

Amylase in the saliva breaks down starch (carbohydrate) from rice, bread and potato into very simple sugars. This is converted to form Glucose. Glucose equals energy... unused energy is again... stored as fat. The body is really good at this. It's where the low to no carb Atkins diet comes from.

Get a piece of bread... or potato... bread is better... chew it up and wad it into the side of your cheek for about 30 seconds... now return it to the centre of your tongue... IT'S SWEET!!!!! That's the Amylase in your spit, breaking down the starch into sugars.

Just some biology for you there.

Eating food last thing on a night can cause the body to have to work when it's trying to rest. This may be a contribution to SP.

I had mostly contrary experiences. When i eat directly before sleeping, i have mostly dreamless nights with bad recovery effects.

It's not really good for digestion or general health to eat last thing at night anyway. Sort of common sense.
