The ability to project has nothing whatsoever to do with how much hair you have or how high your chair is from the ground or the alignment of the outer planets or any of that...

If you need to do this to make yourself feel more comfortable, to make yourself believe more... if you need this crutch, well then go for it.

I shave my head all the time. Doesn't seem to have an effect I'm afraid to say. But at least you're using your imagination. Which I believe is VERY important in this process. Try different things and see what happens. What can it hurt?

I've currently have hair down to the middle of my back, and in the past I used to shave it on no#1 for years. No difference at all in OBEs in regards to long/shaved hair.
