OK first you want to get yourself in the right frame of mind

you can be seated or laying down what ever is more comfortable to you

this is my method
During the in breath imagine white energy entering your feet moving up your legs up your body to the top of your head

During the out breath imagine Purple fire burn its way down your energy system from the top of your head down your body down to your feet

do this for about 10 Min's its very relaxing is good for cleansing any blockages or negative energy's and is good for conditioning your body's, and giving you the fuel you need to fly

next to get you out
when in a relaxed state imagine you are standing in your kitchen your mind will make a mental body in your kitchen so that you can see and hear

you should be able to see something anything is good do your best to explore what you see this is an active meditation to get you used to phasing if you can see your kitchen you can see the moon or mars or the astral

sometimes when phasing your body will create another body an energybody and this will go join your mental body this is your classic OBE where you are totally immersed in the new location

so what we have is totall relaxation
more energy
phasing practice
and full blown OBE

the only thing you need to do is find the time to do it

Good Luck

NoY's active meditation method worked for me and I started to have experiences. I am also thankful to NodesOfYesod-my guide for helping me when I need it very much. smiley

I suggest Active meditation for everyone, it will make the meditations more effective

you can also find active meditation called things like Visualization Meditation, Active Imagination, Pathworking, Shamanic Journeying, etc.
shamanic journeying is probably the most popular title for this kind of work.  NoY's explanation is much simpler than most shamanic journeying scripts.  plus you're in a very familiar environment (your kitchen) which makes it easier to immerse yourself in that environment.

SO I just broke my 10 month dry spell on OBEs (that's not what I'm here to share but it provides context).  I always had trouble stabilizing my projections in the past and this was no different.  I believe it is because technically I'm a "beginner" in the actual astral environments.  Usually I have only been able to stay out of body for a short time and then everything would go dark and I'd be back in my body.  It was always hard for me to remember to do something when I started to feel that way, and what's more, what are you supposed to do?  What can you do that will help you regain focus?

A lot of people recommend meditating but I was never able to do that well out of body for some reason.  But recently NoY mentioned something in IRC chat about a universal meditation for nearly anything (cleansing, centering, energizing, feelin' good) called the Purple Flame Meditation.  The reason I like this meditation is because it's really simple and it really does make you feel good, cleansed and relaxed, the simple part being important.

In my projections today (more like 15 minutes ago) I was out of the body, flying around my community and I started to feel myself fade.  I was climbing a tree and everything started to go black and without even thinking about it I pushed off from the tree and hovered in the air in a full lotus position.  I started doing the purple flame meditation while i floated for about 30 seconds, then when I opened my eyes I felt fully refreshed, full of energy and ready to go.

So, for anyone who has trouble stabilizing a projection, making it easier to assert your will, try this purple flame meditation anytime you feel perceptually weak or as soon as you successful exit the body (or phase).  It's almost like it grounds you, but it grounds you in the projection.

The meditation is really simple (which i said was important because after you do it a couple times, like once a night for a week or so, it quickly becomes habit and requires no thought to execute while OOB).  On your in breath pull white light into your body and on your out breath see purple flames coming from the top of your head and engulfing the body.

IN - White Light
OUT - Purple Flame coming from your crown chakra, engulfing your body

This has been the most helpful little trick I have learned in a while so I highly recommend giving it a try.  There might be something to say for the fact that I've been in a dry spell for 10 months and a week or so after I started doing this purple flame meditation I achieved my first conscious exit in a long time.  Just a thought.

I'm a n00b at meditation but I like the sound of this so I've given it a try.
Am I supposed to be noticing any effects? And if I don't: What does that mean? Do I need more practice in order to do it more effectively? Could it be a form of meditation that simply doesn't work for me? Should I continue in order to become more sensitive towards any effects? And also does the fact I don't notice any effects mean that there are none?

Haha, that's harder than it sounds. But actually last night (I think) I made some progress using this. I was lying in bed and attempting to leave the body and I got to a point where I got a weird feeling at the top of my head, a bit like it was going numb. The rest of my bodily sensations were also lower than I've ever got them to be and I almost couldn't feel the bed. So maybe I was on the verge of entering trance?

Hi ,at what point did you visulise yourself in another room,

Phasing is dead easy its classic obe thats harder but that will come with practice and with a conditioned energy system, dont be afraid to daydream

Keep up the good work   wink

Trance states aren't so clearly defined.

But as soon as you close your eyes your brain already starts slowing down, you enter alpha wave patterns, which is a trance.

Have you read Robert Bruce's book, Astral Dynamics?

I learned how to induce proper trance states from AD.

The trick he teaches that helped me that most was to visualize and FEEL yourself falling.  I like to visualize myself on a roller coaster that starts and the moon and comes down to earth.  You can really get up some speed like that.

Or sometimes I'll see/feel myself falling down a bottomless pit.

The key here is to try and replicate physical sensations of falling.  If you need to, try and do something that will give you that falling feeling, that feeling that hits your stomach when you're on a roller coaster or when you go over a hill in your car.

Oh cool. I already try to focus on and expand the falling feeling when I can so I guess that might be one thing I'm doing right.

About imagining being in a different room, I didn't actually do that bit. Maybe I just have the most dull imagination in the world but I'm reeeeeeeeaally bad at anything that involves imagination or visualisation. That's also one reason why I'm trying to get a more traditional OBE. Though phasing seems to work for a lot of people here it just doesn't appear to get me anywhere (except maybe into an unconscious sleep state).

Maybe you have some ideas on how I can improve my visualisation skills? (and please don't say practice Tongue)

sorry, but it's practice.

what i have found helpful is to visualize things that i'm familiar with or things that i really like.  for example, its really easy for me to visualize my astral temple because i love that place, it embodies me.

also, don't forget that visualization is in the minds eye, not your physical eyes or anywhere in physicality at all.

I suppose working on your brow chakra might help. Its the only thing I can think of other than practice.

Hmmm... Maybe this is the bit that confuses me. I'm not sure when I'm actually "seeing" something in my mind's eye.

So when I do the meditation exercise I try to conceptualise pulling in white light. I usually do this by saying the words "white light" in my mind and trying to focus on the path that it would go (from my feet and hands through my whole body). I think I might unintentionally move my eyes along this path at the same time. Anyway, I try to picture myself on the bed in a kind of x-ray view with the light coming into my body (from the perspective of my physical eyes) but I never really get anything I would consider "seeing". I'm also not any good at doing this consistently. Usually I'm just thinking of pulling in the light and sometimes I try to feel it too.

Is this "seeing" with my mind's eye?

I suppose working on your brow chakra might help. Its the only thing I can think of other than practice.

Thanks, I should try that. I always get mixed up by what to do with my eyes though. Do I have to do the cross-eye thing? Because I can't seem to get them to rest that way.

When you imagine what someone would look like naked, thats using your minds eye. The more you practice visualisation, the more it seems like you're actually "seeing" things.

Do I have to do the cross-eye thing? Because I can't seem to get them to rest that way.

Anything that keeps your attention on the brow centre area for a period of time should do it. I think thats why Hindus wear that dot on their foreheads. Try imagining the feeling of a dry paintbrush against your skin drawing circles that go from between your eyebrows to half way up your forehread. If it goes well you should start to feel unmistakable energy sensations.

This is the problem when people start to ask questions about "visualization".  You're not "seeing" anything.

I had exactly the same problem - I think it stems from both the term "VISUALization" and the fact people use the word "see" when referring to visualization.

Blis gave the perfect analogy - when you picture something (naked or otherwise) you are visualizing.  Whenever you think about somethings appearance, you are visualizing.

Right now, think of a red ball.  Done.  That was visualizing. You probably didnt actually see it in the sense you would see it with  your physical eyes, but you PERCEIVED what it would look like.  This is visualization.

Some people certainly can "see" things clearer than others but with practice you can too, just remember its not actually seeing, but more perceiving its image, if that makes sense?

Well I found an effective method for visualising/focusing. "Zoom the camera to your visualisation".

Most of people don't makes real visualising even they can do a better work. When the visualisation become more detailed the phasing process become so much powerful. When you visualise an object -for example an apple- try to see it closer and closer. Do this zooming activity in the whole phasing process and do not forget to keep you eyes relaxed&not using your eyes.

Good luck  wink

The following link is probably THE best description of what Visualization is in my opinion.
http://www.astraldynamics.com/home/new-energy-ways/using-new-full-tutorial/73-part-2-no-visualization.html

He discusses why people are actually better at visualization than they think... and goes over some of the incorrect thoughts that most people have regarding it.

I agree, there's nothing mystical about visualizing. Just remember a scene from any movie you've watched, tada. Look at a poster on your wall, close your eyes and remember what it looks like, there you go... or even more fun close your eyes and remember where all the objects in your room are, in your head/imagination walk around and examine each object in your room while the entire time laying still in bed. I'm sure if you make it a game to try and remember more and more of the items in your room each time, and detail them more and more then you will get better at visualizing.
