2 weeks ago, I saw a "documentary" on a teen girl who would just fall asleep in less than a second, anywhere, anytime, several times a day.  And you could shake her up, yell, everything... but she would not wake up.  Apparently, her body was missing a particular substance that was regulating sleep or something like that...

Also, I read that, statisticaly, the more you (over) sleep, the shorter your life...

Nope - the more sleep you MISS, the shorter your life. Waking up to an alarm clock takes years off your life..

p.s. I'm sorry if this has already been discussed (teehee)!

Those are good questions and I will gladly answer them to the best of my knowledge.

-If your physical/etheric body falls asleep during your OBE, then your experience will be prolonged considerable.  However, the longest a seasoned projector can contain him/herself in the real-time zone is usually fifteen minutes.  At that point, you'll most likely start to lose focus on your surroundings.  Any loss of focus - disorientation - will cause a dimensional shift, in which case, you will find your self in the astral dimension proper.  In the astral planes, time is greatly distorted and what would seem like a week in here could only be a few minutes in the physical dimension.  So in a way, this question is impossible to answer.

-It is in no way harmful to be out of your body.  You are a projected double and thus cannot be injured nor killed.  You physical body always contains the master copy of yourself and it is protected at all times during an OBE.

-For novices, like myself, it is wise to keep early projections ultra-short.  As in only ten to twenty seconds.

-If someone were to shake your physical body while you were away, it would most definitely call you back.  No matter where you are in the multi-dimensional universe, your physical body has the capability of calling you back whenever it prepares for the waking process.

I hope that helped.

Why do you say nope?  First, both affirmations are not conflicting...  Second, the scientific report I read stated that "the more you (over) sleep, the shorter your life..."  Now, if you don't believe it, it's ok...  but I am just stating their tests' results...  It was just statistics...  They are not explaining why.

Is it worth it to learn how to leave your body if it only lasts for 20 seconds or whatever. I mean I don't want to just leave my body float around my bedroom for a few seconds and then go back into my body again. I would like to be able to explore the solar system and different parts of the planet and stuff. But I guess there is probably allot of stuff to do on the astral plain and that can last for allot longer. But I have no idea what the astral plain is like since I have never been there consciencesly.

Yes [Wink]  It's not like you have to pay thousands of $$$ to do it.
You know the saying: "you get what you pay for"...  The more effort you will put into it, the more rewarding it will be.

First, even if it lasted only 1s, it would be worth it; just for the fact to find out that it exists by yourself...  Second, maybe it will last for hours for you, who knows...

What do you prefer, to giveup and experience nothing, or to try and experience something?

Your first projections should be ultra-short (20 seconds or so).  However, as you gain experience, staying out of your body for hours is not a problem.  Learn to crawl before you try to walk.

actualy, there is a whole belief system deeply ingrained in many a projector that they can stay out for short periods of time, which is just total rubish! yes, most of my experiences have been short lived, but, the longest i had was 45 mins out, i have a friend, who stayed for 6 hours, or Robert Monroe who went out for long periods of time, it all depends though.

The reason why you should stay out for only 10-20s in the beginning is because, as in Robert's book, if you stay out any longer on your first OOBE your mind will most likely loose focus and fall asleep.

Leaving you with no memory whatsoever of the entire event.  Robert explains all of it with his Mindsplit theory - I find it to be very accurate.

From my first hand account :

In the beginning I tried for weeks to induce an OOBE withoout "success"(not that I could remember it).  I would often wake up hours later after falling asleep, thinking I failed projection and simply passed out.

One such time I woke up in the morning after trying to project at night, hours went by, and when I was going down a some stairs, a mental trigger caused me to recall my entire OOBE - I was actually out of my body for many hours, flying around mountains and exploring many astral realms - except upon reintegration into my body, the memories were "lost".

This all has to do with the mechanics of "shadow" and real time memory.  OOBE isn't hard, its remembering it that takes some skill. If you want to remember your first success, keep it short, that way you'll remember it, and feel confident you can do it again.  Otherwise you'll stay frustrated, not even aware that you've done it many times before.

Good point kacper. I mean arn't we having O.B.Es every night when we go to sleep, but we just don't usually remember them? So maybe people shouldn't be trying to create O.B.Es but rather they should be putting their effort into remembering the ones that they  allready had, but maybe that is easier said that done. Perhaps there is something about forcing an O.B.E in your waking state that makes it more memorable.

The longest I can remember was about 10 minutes.

how can you be sure how long it really lasts. I had a dream once that i was in a track meet and i ran just one event and it took a very short period of time and this i woke up. Its like i felt like i had only been asleep for 5 minutes and it was morning already. So about 8 hours somehow got crammed into 5 minutes, could this also be true with AP

As far as time distortions are concerned I have a great example.  When I was younger I got really tired at around 10:00 but I couldn't get to sleep.  I blinked and I was still looking at a clock but I wasn't tired.  I looked around and light was coming in my window.  [Tongue]  I'm surprised I slept for 12 hours without my parents waking me up.

hmmmm, i wonder if this is anything like what einstein was talking about. Like if you went far enough out in space at a certain speed and then came back or something, it would have only felt like 10 years to you but when you landed back on earth it could be 1000 years into the future. I think thats where they got the idea for the planet of the apes

Not in a projection, but I have had dreams where I have "lived" long periods of time of what appeared to be another life. I even had one dream where I lived out many many years, yet I only slept a few hours. So yes it is possible. Time on the physical and the astral are different. I don't think there is any actual time on the astral, only your perception of it.

Ive only had a few (seemingly) very short projections but i have noticed time distortion in dreams.

About a month ago my alaram woke me in the morning, i turned it off and fell asleep again (i can be really lazy sometimes [Wink]). I had a dream about being out with friends and became lucid. After that i was walking around town for what seemed like hours, just taking a look around really. Woke up, id been asleep 10 minutes.
