Welcome to The Astral Pulse.
1)  The vibrations aren't always experienced, they aren't necessary to have OBEs even though they are common.
2)  Noone really knows why it happens to any given person.  It happens to some involuntarily and others need practice.
3)  No it does not mean that you are close to death.  Dr. Monroe was the most famous of people to have OBEs without knowledge of them.  This is because he conducted experiments which showed that there are a good possibility that OBEs are real.  He got eight digit numbers hidden and then got an OBEer to find the number and come back with it memorized.  Notice that he lived a long life to make his experiments.
4)  Yes, it could be your spirituality that helped it along.  Mind you Dr. Monroe was, well, a doctor, a realist of sorts.
5)  I believe that OBEs can help ones psychic abilities substantially, especially if they ask their guide while OOB to help them learn.  However they don't even need to ask in order for it to happen naturally.  I've heard something about Dr. Monroe and an incident with a parking metre door opening with telekinesis and him trying to put the coins back in.
6)  If you have one in the bathtub then you will get pulled back to your body if there was any problem.  Plus you could just will yourself back.
7)  I understand that at night one can will light into the room at night.  You could do various other things to like demand clarity or manifest a flashlight.
Hope that helps.  Most people would find your situation lucky once they knew a bit about the whole thing.[Wink]

Thank you for the warm welcome APGuy. You certainly gave me some wonderful input!![Smiley]
I feel a huge sense of relief, especially knowing Im not going to die or drown in the bath tub. Wheww! I am very eager to explore this deeper next time it happens to me and not be afraid, as I now know what to expect. Knowing I can determine the time of day or will some light on my experience is pretty kool. Id hate to have this happen to me in the pitch darkness. I should probably pick up a book by Dr. Monroe as I have seen his name mentioned a lot on here. I'll check out his website as well.
Thank you again and I now look forward to my next OBE:)
URAOK APGuy!!

Hi YoungSpirit!

Apguy is right,

You have nothing to fear from obes apart from fear itself.

you have a very powerful defence system built in to your mind that means that at any point even the thought that you might be in any danger will cause you to return to your body immediatly!
In the same way, if any kind of perceived danger like anyone or anything approaching your body will likewise cause you to return to your body right away.

In time you will find that it is the act of trying to stay OUT of your body that will be the hard and frustrating part, once you get a liking for it!

btw, its probably better that I do tell you now, sometimes when you are APing you come across somthing which might at first come across as a bit scary, however, this is due to the nature of the astral enviroment, which can cause your fear to manifest in the astral. If this happens (and it is quite rare if you know about it) just remember that it is a fear projection and to keep your emotions in check. If you do this the fear projection will fade away or change into whatever it actually was, possible somthing that was actually quite friendly but your mind distorted the facts!

and always keep in mind that *nothing* can actually harm you while out of body. As I said, even the slightest hint of any (perceived) danger will have you shooting back to your body before you know it. you may find this effect annoying after a while but it is a basic safety mechanism. The key to mastering it is to stop fearing things.

concerning the 'drugged effect' like you were one 'shrooms' (caught you druggie! haha only joking!):
This is because your level of awareness can differ when you project. Sometimes it can be at normal waking level (or even above), sometimes it is lower level like that of a lucid dream, sometimes it is not even that and you are only dimly aware that you are astrally projecting.

Many people start of at this low level. it is this memory of 'strange dreams' that gets them interested. With practice your level of awareness should rise so that in time you can project at full 'awake level' or even higher. Some even people start off at a fairly high level. you projection sounds like it was quite high level. Next time, if you feel groggy, try mentally asking for more clarity or more awareness. I know it sounds daft but I find it can work and you find yourself fully 'waking up' during the experience.

I know what you are refereing to however, sometimes it feels like I am wading through treacle trying to get across the room!

It sounds like you are off to a flying start (pardon the bad pun),
good luck!

I'm glad I could help YoungSpirit.  To add to the problems that could come up.  Sometimes during the day you will be in pitch blackness.  The asking for clarity should work.  I believe that sometimes while OOB you will encounter 360, spherical, or tunnel vision.  You can will yourself to have normal vision.  With 360 and spherical vision I've heard you can get things confused and when you get your normal vision back you will see for example your normal door and a door opposite of it that is a gateway to somewhere in the astral.  Also Gandalf is right that your fears can manifest however also there are actual things that are scary there too.  I understand that merely showing courage against these can cause them to back off.
Now some of this may sound odd or scarey but don't worry it's not all that common.  Many people who have spontaneous OBEs like you seem to have a bit more control while actually out.  Possibly to compensate for not being able to control when you go out[Tongue].

don't do them in the bathub, that's just asking for trouble

when you are sleeping your body breathes automatically.. all it takes is a half a second under water and you could wake up "dead" or you could wake up inhaling water.

now I don't really know how the body reacts to being unconscious while underwater... in the movies I always see how people just kind of pass out and don't inhale... but that makes no sense, sooner or later when you run out of air your body is going to make itself inhale, thus kililng you..

so maybe you would automatically hold your breath if you slid under water while out of body, maybe not...

But it makes no damn sense to risk it... and it makes no damn sense to sleep or AP in a bathtub.

There is a huge inherent risk involved there... I just wouldn't risk it.

Now maybe if you rigged a sort of sensory deprivation tank up that had no room to allow you to roll over and when you were flat on your back your face stuck up above the water, and maybe you had something around your head to keep you from turning it....

but in a bathtub sure there's a chance you could drown yourself... it allegedly happens a lot.

Holy reality, what she's saying is that she has spontaneous OBEs.  She's worried that she'll have one in the bathtub.  She's not saying that she's going to try and OBE in the bathtub.  Now just so that you know when you are OOB you are technically not asleep, you are in a deep trance.  This means you'll react.  If you take in a breath of water you'll go back in to your body.  The chances are the worry of being OOB while in the bathtub alone would bring you back in before you even slumped.  And even if it didn't (which is very unlikely) the chances are you would go back at will because you were worried.

Thank you all for your valuable input! I feel more comfortable by the minute after reading your responses. I tell ya, this is the best forum I have ever run across. Because this subject is in a class of its own, not many people understand, and I find it hard to share my experiences with my friends.

It's truly a wonderful feeling to know I can talk about my OBE's with you and to get such awesome feedback. You guys are witty, charming, truthful, direct and have me now looking forward to my next OBE. Heck, I might even try to enable one using techniques such as BrainWave Generator. Awesome program I hear.

Thank you AP Guy for clarifying to Holy Reality my concerns about the bath tub. You saved me a response:)I do want to thank Holy Reality for your response. Though you may have mis-interpeted the whole bath tub thing, you made a very good point concerning safety. It wouldnt surprise me if someone wanted to intentionally have an OOB while soaking in the bubbly. Not a wise or safe method for astral travel in my opinion.

I noticed that "fear" seems to be a concerned question in many who are in the beginning stages of Astral Projection. Gandalf gave some wonderful advice on fear and how to avoid it. Thanks Man!!

I would like to echo that last post - this place, these people, are great!

If this forum had been around years ago, my own story would no doubt have gone much better, saving a lot of time.

Just wanted to say that while I had the chance.

YoungSpirit...you should consider yourself very lucky!  Most of us practice for a long time to acheive what you can do naturally.  I've been at it for over 6 months with only a few spontaneous short OBE's and no intentional conscious exits.  Don't be afraid of anything...you have ultimate control in the astral. You should know...you may see spirits, astral animals, and even evil creatures while out.  You absolutely have nothing to be afraid of though.  If you see them, don't freak and just tell them to go away.  If you are fearless about it, they will leave.  While in the astral you also have some incredible powers.  You'll learn all that eventually though.  Have fun and keep at it and you'll learn alot!  Take care...

I have another question that has left me curious for years and years.
OverDriven mentioned one can see animals in the astral world.
My cat Higgins was put down years ago due to Diabetes. I had him cremated and his picture resides within close viewing on his urn.

I have wondered and hoped that I will see him again. Will I ever see Higgins? Some say animals have souls, therefore they have to go somewhere. Can I will my mind to see Higgins while OOB? I feel like I have had no closure since he was put down 5 years ago. I would give anything to see my little Higgy and to make sure he is happy with lots of catnip:)
If anyone has witnessed a pet that has passed away during OOB, please share it with me if you feel comfortable.

I recently bought a book by Robert Peterson, "Out of Body Experiences", how to have them and what to expect. This book is so great I find it hard to put down. I feel like the author is decribing my experiences in his book. Very helpful techniques, exercises and really preps you on what to expect, especially for beginners such as myself.

I haven't personally met a passed away animal on the astral because I haven't ever been out[V].  But I have read a post about someone meeting there passed away cat by calling their name.

Hi Young Spirit_

Concerning animals, although I have never come across them, other explorers have noted them in the past. Robert Monroe and Bruce moen among other notable astral explorers have came across pets who had died some years previously.

There doesnt seem to be any truth in the Christian teaching about animals not having souls (suprise suprise) which was probably dreamed up originally as an excuse to make it 'ok' to kill animals.

Moen found that animals have a non-physical life (or spirit) just as we do. We have to remember that animals, just as plants and Humans (all life in fact) are on their own evolutionary path. I used to think it was the same path that we are on but now I am not so sure.
Anyway, Monroe and also Bruce found that spirits of animals seem to continue hanging around their masters for as long as they are still loved, afterwhich they move on.

As you still seem very close to your cat, I think it likely that it is still around and you may well come across it at some point! However, if it has decided to move on at last... well, we've all got to do it I suppose!

Hi Young Spirit
Nice to have you with us. Hope you will enjoy the ride. There are many in these forums that can be of great help to you in your quest but unfortunately a few that might trip you up. In order to understand this aspect of things I would suggest you read the "Catch Basket concept" an exelent article from Robert Bruce. As you liusten to the advise everybody is giving you and each other be mindfull to stay within the confines of your own experience and faith.

As you see in the self defence forum not everything people are experiencing is helpfull, some is quite wierd. My advise to you would be to let things happen. Dont try too hard. Its a bit like a birth. There comes a certain point when the birfth is so far alonbg that you have to ask the woman to stop pushing as the baby is coming along in its own good way in its own time, you seem to be well on your way. Good for you.

Hello YoungSpirit,

Regarding pets - I very much agree with Gandalf. If there is a bond of love, then why shouldn’t they come back?

Our family dog came back about a year after he passed on.At the time I was half asleep and was aware of something moving at the foot of my bed. At first I thought was hallucinating, but I became aware of his form and sensed his warmth at my feet. Since then I have had experience of contact with animals from time to time. This included an opportunity while practicing a blindfold reading during a group experiment. Although I thought being aware of someone's pet was daft at the time, I was surprised to be able to describe the type of dog, aspects of his personality and other specific evidence for his survival (as an individual personality) to the beloved human companion. It made sense to the sitter! I am quite confident that they can come back. I for one trust in that!

Warm wishes,

I agree about pets.

Not long ago, I went to my Mum's house, and saw a black cat with a white tip on its tail run inside while I was at the door. I told Mum about what I saw, and I described the cat to her. Unknown to me, her cat who died before that, fitted the description perfectly. I had seen her cat's spirit. They do stay with you after they've died.

Thank you so much for the three most recent replies to my post.
I havent checked on here in a few months until I got three new responses in the last week, two in reference to animal spirits.
Its strange that my bunny past away 5 days ago. He wasnt just a bunny, but a part of our family and had a special relationship with one of my cats. I miss Bunny so much and wondered if he will come back.
My boyfriends mother was taking care of my sick bunny. She called me at work to tell me he passed away just minutes ago. Two minutes prior to her calling me to tell me bunny died, a huge Crane Bird landed right in front of me on the driving range. I work at PGA Learning Center and it was very unusual for a Crane to just drop from the sky and land right in front of my ball picker. Golf balls were flying left and right missing the Crane by inches. I drove the picker behind the Crane to push him to a safe spot. I saved that Cranes life the exact moment my bunny died.
Do you think the Crane came to me for a reason? Do you think it was my bunny coming to say goodbye to me? I saved an animals life and in return, lost the life of an animal at the exact same time. The whole situation was so bizzare. Maybe Im thinking to far into it, though anything is possible.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments.
Thanks a bunch:)

It's possible that your Bunny sent you a Crane to let you know he's saying "Bye". It's possible he will hang around for a while, and then move on.

Holy Reality, When you breathe in water your lungs soon fill up with water.  Once they are full you just want to go to sleep.  This is why drowning is considered the most painless way to die.

It doesn't have anything to do with your bunny passing away. I think he/she was referring to the bath-tub.

I stumbled across this incredible forum and was so happy to learn others experience what happened to me. I just want to know why we are chosen to experience OBE's?
I consider myself to be a very spirtual, intuituve 36 year old female. Three months ago, while taking a quick nap before work one afternoon, I experienced my first OBE in RTZ. At the time I had no clue what had happened to me or zero knowledge on the subject. The experience altered my conscience and opened my spirituality even more so. My intuition scares me because it has gotten so accurate.

A quick summary on my first whatever it was:
I woke up but did not see my body in bed.
Everything was very blurry and in a boxed vision.
Everything was the same in my room and hallway. I even looked at myself and saw what I was wearring, nothing but my orange underwear with a little bear on the front. Sorry for the details but I think its important that I knew what I was wearing.
I felt like I was heavily drugged like on some kind of shrooms
I could barley stand but made my way down the hallway.
I remember grabbing my flannel shirt and tried so hard to put it on because I was cold. Therefore I was aware of feeling and could grasp my shirt.
A force pulled me back into my bedroom and right into my bed.
I then blacked out.
I had another one last week, or close to it as Im not really sure. I was again naping before work at the same exact time as my last OBE. This time was different as I experienced massive vibrations and loud humming. It scared the living day lights out of me so I told myself to wake up and I did. Thats what lead me to this forum.

Was I out of body during the vibrations?
Why does this happen to me when Im not even trying or had no knowledge of it?
Does having an OBE unwillingly, mean one is close to death?
Is it because I am very spiritual that I have OBE's?
Can OBE's enhance ones pshyic ability?
Can you drown if you have one in the bathtub?
If I project at night time, will I be able to see?

Sorry for all of the questions in no particular order. I just would feel at great ease if someone could give me there input.
This forum has answered a great deal of my questions!! Thanks OBE'ers:)
