If the intent is not there you most likely will not astral project. Astral projections takes time. It's not something you will master overnight. I know it takes alot of people years to have their first OBE's. It took me three weeks. I was so dedicated to it that I meditated almost 5 times a day. It was all I thought of and all I wanted to do. I was in a point in my life where I needed change.
Although I highly recommend meditation... Even if you can't seem to astral project meditation is so rewarding. It has helped my anxiety so much. I used to not be able to leave the house. I have been on 20 different anxiety and depression meds throughout my life, and because of meditation, astral projection, and my strong will to learn it... I am no longer on any medications and I seem to enjoy life so much more than I used to. Also, don't try at night! Daytime seems to be the best time to attempt AP. I know I cannot make you stick with it... It is a personal decision. I highly recommend to not give up on this though... It has saved my life. Literally.
Take care. -Cody

Keep telling yourself this before you go to sleep. Sooner of later it will stick. Good Luck in your future endeavours!

Generally I don't think that learning astral projection is a good idea for those who don't have a good base in meditation(qigong, yoga, ...) because it can be a very hurtful experience for those who bring their fear and stress to the astral plane and don't have enough reserved energy to control their experience. So unless you are very dedicated to learning some basics in meditation, it's better to avoid astral projection altogether. Regarding how to avoid it I think the best way is to make yourself busy in the daily life and stop thinking about it because once you have your first lucid dreams then it won't be easy to avoid the rest and you will have spontaneous experiences every once in a while even if you don't want them.

Hi, Wanting nothing to with it. Great, You are wanting nothing Expecting nothing Trying nothing Doing nothing. You may be out in a day or two, this method has worked before. Make sure you have no intent on going out either. See you out there.

If you don't want to AP or experience anything beyond your physical self, just watch a lot TV (especially shows like Jersey Shore), eat a lot of fast food, never take your smart phone out of your hand, spend a lot of time at walmart, and enjoy & praise mediocrity. Don't think for yourself, and don't ponder philosophical concepts. And watch a lot of random youtube videos. That should anchor you fairly well. Sounds like a pitiful life, but it works for millions.

Still, I believe that yondaime109 has a fear issue rather than being victim of the usual mainstream mass hypnosis thing going on. And yes, desert rat makes a good point. It's ironic that yondaime109 probably (like all of us) is out-of-body most of the time, even more so at night during deep sleep. What we refer to when we speak about OBE/AP is the conscious and remembered parts of it,which is assumed to be only a tiny fraction of the rest of the 'focus' we have and activities we do as multidimensional beings. yondaime109, maybe it helps you to think a bit about this concept and the fact that you actually "are OBE" all the time in the first place? It is your natural state of "being". You just do not remember it.

Still, I believe that yondaime109 has a fear issue rather than being victim of the usual mainstream mass hypnosis thing going on. That's sort of what I was getting at... people are afraid of finding out what's under the surface of themselves and the world, and there are plenty of escapes rather than having to confront your own personal truth. I think that's one big part of society's issues - no one wants to push past their level of comfort for something even greater. When I'm afraid of doing something, it's a clear sign that I have to do it as soon as possible. The bigger the fear, the more important it is to do. But really, if the OP hasn't ever AP'ed and doesn't want to, there is nothing to fear. It's like asking "how do I not juggle 3 chainsaws?".

You guys are right, it is all fear based. Look at the former posts of his and you will see a pattern. It's alright though, he will learn when he is ready. There is no rush, this is a "lifetime" venture.

Yeap, if you don't want to AP you'll likely never will. Except maybe 'accidentally' triggering OBE a few times in your life during inevitable sleep paralysis episodes. Just remember it's completely natural. Do some research on it if you haven't already, and good luck whatever you do and seek in life.

once i had my first AP, i keep having APs. sometimes every week, sometimes every month. but before i had all this fear id have 2-3 x per week. i think the more fear you have the less APs will occur, but youll always AP for the rest of your life. at least once per month or 6 weeks. truth is, we all AP when we go to bed (dreams). consciously APing feels different i guess.

If there were a measurement unit to astral projection, it would be 'physical disconnectedness', such as an intense daydream would be considered a very slight astral projection.
To focus your life, instead, on hyper physical awareness is a noble endeavor indeed.
It is one not I could easily transition. I respect your sacrifice.
Cheers, Contenteo

If it happens then just will yourself awake. Your mind and body should eventually get the message or maybe you will.
