Is this a normal first time experience?

I consciously astral projected for the first time the other day and while it was a really cool experience it also wasn't what I expected. I was pretty well grounded in where I was. I was in my room but it was slightly different. There was a mirror that I was able to see myself in. My hair was shorter than it is now and my movements appeared to be delayed.....when I waved my arms there was a ghostly trail following. But what was confusing to me was that I was unable to change where I was or float or fly. In a sense the experience was somewhat physical. I attempted to fly a couple times by jumping really high but i just landed face down on the floor....I felt no pain though. It did make me laugh at myself. I eventually decided to try and get back in my body which was as easy as thinking about it. I was able to successfully roll out of my body and return to it several time in the course of 40 min. or so. I guess my question is that will I be able to have more freedom in my future experiences?

Yes, you will get better at flying. I still have trouble sometimes. I think this is because we bring a lot of baggage with us, such as subconscious beliefs that we cannot fly, etc.
