I'm having a bit of a problem phasing, I'm getting mixed results, I keep getting 'shot' back & my eyes open, or at best, on a few attempts now I'll phase & start exploring, but after a few minutes or so something will happen that will startle me & I'll go back to eyes wide open.

For instance, most recently it was two bright balls of light dancing around outside a window, I stepped in closer for a better look, & they carried on dancing for a bit & then quickly flew head on at each other & exploded into a massive flash of light & that startled me to wakefulness.

I started out through the mind awake/body asleep method, going through SP etc, but have never had a problem with anything like this startling me back to wakefulness, only thing that seems to wake me up is really extreme/intense sensations. Lately I'm having a dry spell though & having no success at all, so I've started trying to use the phasing method, using visuals & as I said, getting at best mixed results.

I'm practising at night, every night, when I go to sleep. The only thing I can think of is to use my senses even more & try to get a bit more grounded - any advice?

Well you know my advice.. is to have a short nap about 2 hours before hand. That is the only advice I can give because its how I do it and it's worked for others.

The phasing thing for me is entirely non-visual and I use a tactile induction where I wait till I lose awareness of my body - just by laying very still - then I begin playing around moving my fingers or feeling textures.

Okay cheers, I'll give SP a shot again tonight, but nap first. Lately my method has been body asleep/mind even more asleep. *face palm*

I've basically been following Xanth's eBook for phasing, which has really been helpful, I just can't seem to stay 'there'! I've only been at it a week though, so maybe just need to put in more time practising, & I'll hopefully get the hang of it.

It's a difficult concept, but work on "allowing" yourself to phase and remain.

You pedal up to the top, that's preparing yourself. The getting into position, itching and all sorted.
Reaching the summit you start to roll, do the technique to start losing physical awareness.
And roll down carefully using the brakes. Allowing the phase to get deep with just enough awareness.
If you pedal like a maniac now you'll go too fast and fall.
Forcing the issue will prevent the phase completing its course. You'll still fall, this time asleep. Or worse, the whole night will pass leaving frustration and a grumpy you.
Neither are suitable for an attempt.
Don't rush, the use of your brakes will get you there. Slowly but surely.

Bedeekin, does your nap fix work if you nap like whenever throughout the day? Or does it have to be a few hours before you'd normally get some kip at night? I normally AP when I get to bed at night, but my sleeping pattern is so fragile I'm worried a nap near normal sleep time will throw my pattern right out! & it's a pain to get back to a normal pattern again.

Personally, I like to take an hour nap a few hours before I lay down to project and then sleep. I don't know if this matters or not, but I never try to have an OOBE during the nap. I save that for the evening when I lay down for the night. If I don't succeed initially, I can usually project through a dream or after I wake up for a drink of water or use the loo.

Yeah that's how I normally go about it. I'm just thinking if I have a nap nearer to when I sleep, get up for a while then have an attempt, when it actually comes to me going to sleep that night I'm not going to be able to! I have such a problem with sleeping patterns, it takes a conscious effort to keep myself in a normal routine. So thinking a nap at mid day or something then an attempt during the day, wouldn't interfere with my normal sleep, at least not to much anyway, I hopes! grin

What other goals do you have while mediating? I'm not sure if I can saylwhat I do is meditating, since my only goal is to relax and then phase.

  Just one, to learn to discipline the mind.

  A disciplined mind will SURRENDER TO and ALLOW the shift to take place, no matter what kind of "sign post" or distraction you may be experiencing!

I have no goals while meditating.
I allow the meditation to take me wherever it needs to.

Remember, I don't actively "practice" projections anymore... I've realized that they're ultimately meaningless.  They're not meaningless in that they have no use... they're meaningless because ultimately you can grow spiritually so much more efficiently by experiencing this physical reality.

Everything involved with accessing the non-physical from a consciously aware state requires meditation.  This is something Frank seemed to absolutely refuse to acknowledge... he was a master of meditation and didn't even know it.

When I was young and OOBEing... my experiences were diverse and very focused.. I was visiting other realities.. having very accurate RTZ projections... then as I got older I started to get very different and subconsciously painted experiences... they were beginning to fill up with all kinds of interesting yet useless things. Then I discovered Meditation.

Once I began meditating it began to clear and focus my mind to the state it was when my head was clean of ego and full of confidence... un-cluttered by adult nonsense. For this reason alone... meditation is a must for the ability to create a clean and in-cluttered Nonphysical experience.

OOBEs instigated with SP aren't the magic formula without the practice of meditation. They go hand in hand. Experience based advice there. Smiley

See. I keep saying you are a genuis, how do you deny that when your avatar is all the proof needed.

Actually, everybody here gives me invaluable advice. It's just that Beedeekin has a straight forward no peaches and cream, way of making the penny drop for me.

I will now devote time to just meditating. By that I mean I will have some focus time to clear my mind in which phasing is not the objective.

I have a very specific goal right now and that is to have more OOBE's that are not colored with my own projections.

I am a nuts and bolts person.

Sometimes I feel my advice doesn't get heard because I don't use chakras and crystals or talk about it with spiritual flamboyancy.

I almost completely stopped meditating when I started projecting. I think I got a bit cocky about it because I felt like I had meditated 'enough' already, & projecting was frankly way more novel! Was a bit of a short sighted way of looking at it really. Now I can almost always find something 'more important' to do than meditate. Avoidance anyone? cheesy I will make an effort to make time for it though.

I failed my phasing attempt BTW, laid down to relax for a bit (put a sock over my eyes... sleepy time eye masks are over-rated! cheesy) but in the end I fell into dreams, but I'm not going to stress over it, just have to keep at it & will be back in the NP in no time! smiley

I have become much better at phasing in the morning after waking since I started meditating 5 months ago. I'm familiar with the feelings and have much better control over my thoughts

Last night was madness! When I finally woke up I spent at least 2 or 3 minutes checking I was genuinely awake! I had a successful phase attempt, I can only remember the very start, which was me grabbing everything I could see, the concrete pavement, the hedge rows along the gardens & basically feeling everything etc then when I left the street my old house was on, I just can't remember where I went after that. This was followed by a bunch of lucid dreams, I would become lucid & then at some point I would lose it & go into another dream, & become lucid again for a while & then lose it again. & finally multiple false awakenings! I had to keep checking when I actually woke up that I was really awake! I'm almost certain I'm awake now! cheesy =] My first successful 'phase' that I didn't lose it after a minute! Was quite a night for me. grin
