Yup, whenever I try my stomach and neck tense. It gives you a real appreciation to what RB means when he calls it a "mental balancing act" - that you have to think about relaxing (concentrate on your body, making sure no tension creeps in) while also going on with the projection technique. Too much of the first you won't put enough pressure on, too much the second and you tense. All I can recommend is you do a lot of relaxation exercises beforehand, and maybe go deeper into trance. Experiment! I think the more you do it the easier it becomes (tho I have not projected, have other problems)

The only problem is that the tension starts the very moment I do the first pull up with my hands (sometimes the second) - it is really frustrating...

It's even more frustrating 'cause I guess it is the only thing that stops me from projecting...
I've got a working projection technique, good motivation, deep concentration with a blank mind (you can sound a horn next to my ear and I won't even blink an eye ;-P

Yet I'm not discouraged by this fact and I keep trying everyday
:-DD

But do you (or anyone else) know good relaxation techniques other than from AD (since they don't work good for me)..?

Take care,
Alex

Oh, man, yeah it is frustrating!!
As for relaxation techniques, I bought a few "brainwave entrainment" CD's a while back off that Mark Vandekeer bloke, track 4 ("wave of relaxaion") off Lucid Dreaming or Astral Trance really does chill me out.
Good luck!!
When you start on ROPE, do you keep a constant eye on your body? The way I do it, is if my body starts tensing, I simply pay less attention to the exit technique and more to my body. But because I am soooo used to tensing when exerting a lot of mental stress, yeah it is hard to un-learn it. I think there may be some practise exercises which might help, if you want to forget projection for a little while just get used to creating varying amounts of pure mental pressure and holding relaxation? Make one up!
hope this helps

lol grin
I've got the same CDs for a few onths now...
But I generally tried to project wih the 'vibrations' CD and not with the 'Astral Trance'..
But I just put the CD and listened to it...
A few days of being tired brought me the sleep during the play of it...grin
Yet I am relaxed now (and a bit sleepy smiley)

No, with me it's not about "exerting a lot of mental stress", because there is not much of it really...
Climbing the rope (or ladder) goes quite easily from the very beginning without too much effort...

Mental balancing act... hmm.... maybe I should just go back to bacics...?

Oh, and your posts gave me some ideas to experiment - thanks for that Smiley

Got to go now - I've got an exam tomorrow :-DD

Take care,
Alex

G'day!

Yes, wake induced obe requires quite a mental balancing act indeed. Most people need a fair bit of practice before it will all come together.  I've had spontaneous obe's all my life, but it took me several months to learn how to get into trance and wake induce obe's.
It can be quite frustrating, but patience and practice pay of.

I recommend to most people that they do all their exercises, and early obe attempts, in a hard backed chair with no head support. You must balance your head perfectly.  This is more difficult but has far greater training value.  If you can trance in this position, you are doing well, and obe's will be easier. I also suggest that obe's be attempted from this position.  This is great for short obe's, say up to 30 seconds long.  Your head will tend to fall to the side and drag you back, but this also has the advantage of helping download the obe memory.  This helps train obe download pathways, which makes it easier to remember obes.

When you get jerked back, use dream/obe memory recall techniques.  Latch onto a memory and pull the rest back. It might only be a short and boring obe into your back yard, but its a genuine obe that gives you something to build upon.

Note, I do the majority of my obe's from my office chair, which is a very old steel, low backed swivel chair.

Take care, Robert.

Thank you Robert, I will surely try it...
(yet it will take at least a few days of experimentation to find the right position Smiley

I am a new member.  Just recently heard Robert Bruce on the Art Bell show and was instantly resonating with everything Robert talked about.  I have only had two OBEs and both were a bit scary.  I plan to get Robert's book (Astral Dynamics) and do the exercises.  I understand OBEs contribute to balancing one's health and I am interested in that.  Also, I am an artist, and I am interested in new ways to enhance my creativity.  I am hoping this will be a help.  Has anyone experienced enhanced creativity as a result?

Best!  Patricia

Hi all,

I've been trying to project for quite a long time (but not trying too often nor too hard - just a few attempts per month)..
Lately, when I had a LD (or was it OBE - I'm not sure - it lasted only for less than a minute), and I just thought that it's propably my time to finally get myself out of me grin

Now I'm practicing everyday and I've got one problem constantly reoccuring...
My leg muscles (in both legs) start to get tense the moment I start climbing...
At first I thought it had something to do with the relaxation, but I tried several times in the morning (just after getting out of the bed and taking shower) - and it was just the same...

And I can't controll it...
When I feel the tension in the legs, all I can do is to relax them, but then the trance state is gone Sad

Oh, and they are tensing to the point that I even feel I'm picking them up in the air and they are even shaking from the tension...

For me it's like my astral legs can't separate from my physical ones..

I hope someone here (RB?) can help me out or at least tell me why it is like that...?

Regards,
Alex
