So this technique pops up a lot while many claim success with it, others like me struggle with it.

I go to bed very tired usually and try saying to myself "mind awake body asleep" as I drift off but
Is this really something that can be improved with practice or is it something that you can either do it or you can't? I have trouble doing it without drifting off after a few minutes. Its a real dicapline.

Does anyone try this technique? tell of your progress and experiences please and what happens when it goes right.

Try this practice in another place other than your bed. All your life you have trained your mind that bed is for sleeping. Try a comfortable chair in your living room instead. Mind awake, body asleep mantra can be used in any area of your choosing. It doesn't need to be confined to just the bed.
 Good Luck  smiley

Keeps me awake lol yeah it does work cos I had really really bad insomnia a few years back and try as I might I couldn't switch my mind off (I was going through huge amounts of stress at the time) after a couple of weeks of sleeping very little I started AP several times a night!!! cos my body would fall asleep if you like but my mind wouldn't.

It does work, but it's best to try after a few hours sleep, say 5 hours' sleep. I have managed MABA when going to sleep at night but I find it extremely difficult because I tend to just go straight to sleep very quickly.  There is an ideal time, I would say between 4 and 6 hours sleep. After this time you are sufficiently rested to be able to enter MABA and sufficiently tired to remain in it once you get there!

Thx but isn't that a problem if you sleep beforehand for the simple reason you won't be as tired to sleep and may not drift off as easy to try MABA?

Generally it isn't a problem.  Maybe if you set your alarm clock to go 4 hours after you go to sleep, you will still be sufficiently tired to easily go back to sleep and get into the MABA state. There are several ways of approaching this. Some people advise waking and then getting up and maybe reading a book for 20 minutes. Then go back to bed. Alternatively, in my case, I find myself in an ideal state of mind simply by waking "slowly" after about 5 or 6 hours sleep (I have to condition myself to do this), catching myself as I wake up and then going directly OBE from this state. By this I mean that I relax a little and drift back into MABA. Then I will roll out of my body onto the bedroom floor and take it from there.

Just a comment- I have never heard of MABA as a technique- it's just a state you reach for projection or even Mediumship.  The technique is what you do to reach MABA.
I'm just sayin', the title was confusing to me.

Yes, the Monroe Institute labels MABA as F10, so there are several techniques that can get you there.

I think it's also worth pointing out that you don't necessarily have to literally be MABA to be in focus 10. As focus 10 is a broad spectrum MABA is towards the deeper end of it

And to top it off, here's a huge article at the Monroe Institute website strictly about F10/MABA:
