I know that a lot of people here have experienced this before.  You're trying to Project consciously or Meditating and all of a sudden, you know full well that your eyes are shut tight, yet you're able to see your surroundings just fine!

I've experienced this many times while meditating at home sitting in my living room and I'm able to see my surroundings looking exactly as they are.  So what is this?  Was I *REALLY* seeing my living room?  I could see my tv... the tv stand... the wall... the dog beds... they were all there.

Well, it wasn't until I started doing this on the train going into work each morning that I believe I have a theory.  I try meditating on train each morning, the end result is that as the train pulls into Toronto, I'm usually pretty relaxed.  I sit there for a bit longer waiting for everyone to leave so that there is room for me to leave as well... and as I'm sitting there I simply continue my meditation.  What I experience, usually on most days is the whole "seeing through my eyelids" thing, only what I see isn't a direct reflection of what is actually going on around me.  It's not even always from the same perspective of where I'm sitting.  I've seen my fiance get up and walk away... I've seen people who are sitting in front of me get up and leave (not always the same people as are actually there too!)... then upon opening my eyes physically, I see that these people are still sitting there.

My theory is that what we're "seeing" when we see through our eyelids IS NOT actually physical reality at all... you're seeing non-physically, and it's mixed very highly with what you believe is around you at the time.

Oh boy! I get to put thinking hat on. grin

I see it a lot as you described (and hats off to you for being able to meditate on your commute, that's sounds hard to do if Canadians are half as loud and boisterous in the mornings as your southern buddies grin)

But once you have shifted your state of consciousness, all bets are off. Even if it's just a shallow trance. Your NP point of view could be coming from anywhere and may even be divided. It will still be "grounded" on the train because a part of your consciousness is still aware that you don't want to miss your stop.

You may be seeing the people that were there yesterday or may be there tomorrow. Another possibility is that what you are seeing is actually happening in real time except you are just seeing it from another seat and not the one you are physically occupying.

When this occurs in a more static environment like our living rooms, then we may come close to seeing everything as it currently is. With less variables, the experience can become more stable and easier to correctly perceive but even then, I'm sure you have seen your dog lying in his bed only to open your eyes and see that he isn't even in the room.

That's how I see it (for the time being anyhow). smiley

Yes, this happens often right as I'm falling asleep. After dozens of experiences I've realized I'm never seeing the room as it actually is but it's signpost for me that I'm ready to pop out of my body without waking it up. Although it can be very close to reality, there's always something a little different (or a lot different, like I'm in a house I used to live in, or my husband is there when I know he's not). Kudos to you that you can achieve this through meditation since I'm only able to if I'm actually in-between that waking and sleep state.

These are things that I would like to experiment with further but on more of a "Collective" level. The only way I think we can verify what is really happening or not happening is to use another person for tests. MJ and I have done this quite a bit. She will be moving around the room while I am Phasing and if I wish, I can hone in what she is really doing, then later verify it as truth.

I was doing this in the Mall, at my Kiosk the other day and I think people walking by thought I was getting some quick "shut eye", lol. I could hear little bits of laughter and comments coming from them.

One thing I noticed about a Mall is it is filled with Non Physical forms. Possibly this is because this could be one of the favorite places of a recently deceased. I'm sure you see Non Physicals on the train as well Xanth. Possibly recently deceased still reliving their daily paths and travels, unbeknownst to them that they have passed on.

Probably unbeknownst to Xanth as well. Regardless of our beliefs, I think that once we have become aware of the wider reality, it has a way of becoming a part of our normal reality. wink

I agree.  However, when I open my eyes it's always been the same, except for the vantage point on two occasions.

I've found this to be a clairvoyant aspect. If you see a person do something this way just wait until they move, you'll understand this more.
It's seemingly based upon their thoughts being percieved and their actions within these thoughts. At times they'll move in and then realise they've left something behind they don't normally carry. An autopilot exit gets interrupted if you like. This can take over physical sight too if you're in autopilot mode yourself.
I've done this many times seeing things far from my location. An example is a car park where two cars collide. A few days later the event occurs. Another very common one is seeing lets say a fence not there, a few days later after bad weather the fence has gone. A less common one appears while driving. You see someone overtake you to be stopped for speeding by the police hiding around a corner. You just KNOW to go slowly.
It's all very similar in how it appears to function. The others thoughts are the.most common source of this 'second sight'.
I've lived with it for many years and accept it as normal.
The odds against it being a coincidence are millions to one.
On a good day I tell people things like check your e-mails, the girl has responded. It tickles me when they turn in awe. How do I know? Can't answer this, but I just do.

Often when I see through my eyelids, I would look at the clock in my room, but when I open my physical eyes, the time would be different.
I also have had instances of remote viewing. One time on the plane coming back fro  Europe, I was thinking about my friends and I was sad that I was leaving so soon. The plane ride was long and can never sleep in an upright position, but I was exhausted. So, the whole time at night, I was in a semi OBE state. Could not achieve full OBE either though, because in order for me to have full independent of my physical body experience, I have to be asleep. Anyway, during the half awake  half asleep state, I started seeing through my eyelids, I saw my friends in a red car driving somewhere. They were talking and laughing. Then they arrived at a location somewhere in a mountain area and started preparing for hiking. The flight attendant started talking and I snapped back. The next morning I texted one of them and asked them what did they do the previous day and she described exactly what I was seeing in real time. It was so awesome to confirm my remote viewing.

In my opinion it comes down to what do we really see in the physical world?

I believe we are all "creators", We are all continously adding to what we "see" in the physical world,

What we "see" with our "eyes closed" is what "our" consciousness is adding to the physical, We are all continously adding to the physical, layer upon layer,
A aware person as more control to what they add, we can make small changes which few would ever be aware of,

We all see the "world" different to each other, but believe we all see the same,

There are "safety valves" in place so no one person or group can make drastic changes, This is released as energy ie storms, quakes etc.
We are parts of a finely balanced system.

Just had a meditation when I noticed I was seeing through closed eyelids, as I have done often before, but never noticed any difference with the actual; but i will certainly check this out as it is very interesting and has certain ramifications. Good spotting xanf  smiley

I've actually been looking into this as well recently. When I first started meditating (and still happens now) I remember I would get to a point where after about 15 minutes or so I was looking into the blackness but then I would "see" an outline of my arms and hands. By this point in my meditation my head was usually totally slouched down so if I opened my physical eyes I would be looking towards my stomach where my hands were actually placed.
But for the life of me I didn't completely understand what I was seeing or why. Was I really seeing through my eyelids? Was I almost OBE? Or was it just my minds interpretation of what I thought was really there?

I've been doing a lot of recent meditations where I just place my intent to experience and explore 3D blackness or any hynogogic imagery. Usually, I'll just experience the feeling of some sort of depth to the blackness, or I see something that looks far away in the blackness. Or I'll see random images that seem to not be related to anything at the moment.
But what I've come to consider seeing my hands through closed eyelids would not be actually seeing through them, but just my minds interpretation of what I would think to be there AS my nonphysical senses are starting to "turn on" and I become more aware of them.

But that's just what I think as of right now since I've been looking into it recently, can't say for sure.

Hi Xanth!
It's very true that what we see through the eyelids is not actually physical reality! many a times when I have projected, I have seen different patterns on the room curtains or the table which is actually located on the right, standing on the left! But few times I did see things intact too!
I do agree on what you say about seeing things that you believe to be there at that time!

I expermented with this last night. I think I simply created the room. I moved my physical position with the image and it remained the same view in any physical position. I was hoping for the image to be fixed as in the physical view. It wasn't unfortunately.
Not sure what to make of it as the NP is so fluid anyway.

I think the only way to test this is due to spontaneous occurrences. Otherwise we go into it with a preconceived expectation of what we will see.

This is why I use my Mindfold when I Phase. It blocks all light and makes it so that I never have any doubt whether I am seeing something due to accidently opening my eyes (which did occur sometimes) or viewing a NP model of my room.

Most of the time I am viewing this in black and white, until the scene starts to come into better focus that is.
