Student considering some sort of obe related major

I go to a state school in Ohio and I'm majoring in Psychology and minoring in Philosophy. One thing I'm grateful of here is that they offer more courses in Philosophy like for instance a meditation course, a metaphysics course and a Personal Identity course (grad course that talks about what would exist if you went through a time travel machine) haha. As of now i'm a sophomore and hope to take those courses later on either Junior and Senior year or in Grad school. Good luck finding a Major that specifically deals with OBE's, i think you'd have to look to a "healing" school or something for that. However, having a major in Philosophy especially may touch on some of those subjects. Guess it just depends on the school you go to. Good Luck!  - Mike

   I too am a sophomore and actually also do have a philosophy minor declared. So cool! I agree with you, it will be difficult. I'm considering going from professor to professor and speaking to them privately about the matter, see if I can get shoved in the right direction type deal. I found the book below very iluminative on the question of subjectivity vs. objectivity in consciousness research. It might give you some inspiration in choosing your topic.
 One of it´s main arguments his that the dominating materialistic view of consciousness in mainstream science is an metaphysical assumption without any actual empirical evidence eventhough it is oftenly presented as the scientifically "more correct" view.

Many professors tend to have interests of their own outside of classes and grading homework. One of the professors at the college I attended taught a yoga class after hours in town. It would have been impossible to guess this but there were people who knew about it. A professor with similar interests would know not only about OBE but also if it is possible to do something with it in the context of school and majors.

Hello all,
   I'm A student in college considering my options for majors and just would like to get some opinions of people, if I'm lucky, some professionals. I'm really interested in out of body experience, meditation, and hypnosis and the such and I'm curious what types of majors and perhaps what schools have a good rep for these things. I know it's not normal liberal arts college topic material, which is where I'm at... but still, I'm just keeping all doors and options open. Looking for suggestions, comments, opinions, anything that might give me insight. I personally was thinking some aspect of psychology and/or philosophy... any thoughts? Do share.
