Oh yes, for years, until I figured it out.

The next time it happens, relax completely.  Just flop.  Fighting the paralysis is no good . . . it's painful and upsetting.  If you relax, the feeling will go away in a minute or two.

Whether or not you experience an OBE is up to you.  The theory is that you ARE having an OBE when you have sleep paralysis, it's just that sometimes you remember it, and sometimes you don't.  I"m not so sure about that theory . . .  I think sometimes you can have sleep paralysis and just get stuck, and not go anywhere.  I'm not 100% positive, though.

I used to hear a LOT of noise during my sleep paralysis states, and it was very alarming.  There is that word "alarm"!   I think it's normal for beginners to hear a lot of racket during their projections.

Imagine it this way.  Your early projections can be likened to an old car in need of a major tuneup, starting up on a very cold day.   Later projections can be compared to a quiet little motorbike buzzing about.

At any rate, if sleep paralysis is part of your life you have come to the right place by visiting this forum.  Welcome aboard!

David,

Even though I've only had 2 OBE's ( niether one had been consciously induced ), I've dealt with sleep paralysis my whole life. It wasn't until this last year that I started hearing noises during the SP episode. The best way I can describe the sounds I heard is to compare it to the buzzing of high voltage power lines coursing through my head. It steadily builds to a crescendo, while my ears continually pop. Looking back and deducing what I've read....this could be the transition into the Astral Plane. I've not been successful in having an OBE when this has happened, mainly because I've freaked out from the intense noise and snapped out of it. I've read that if you totally relax and go with it....that just after the peak, when the noise gets the most intense, you'll project. Even if the sounds you heard weren't quite what I heard, it could just be that we all hear something different. You never know.

hi david...the same thing has happened to me a few years ago.. I used to get paralysis all the time.. One afternoon i was taking a nap and woke up in paralysis..I couldn't move, but to make matters worse I heard this roaring sound, in my mind I thought it was some ghost scratching their nails on the wall..(at least that's what it sounded like)..The noise appeared to get closer and closer and the more I tried to fight the paralysis the harder it was to mover...So for a brief moment, i completely relaxed and then attempted to move again, then i finally was able to move. It was like a nightmere except more real...But since i've been reading "astral dynamics" i haven't had anymore paralysis..which is very good:)..The best advice i can give you, is to relax for a moment and then try to move again..because if you get really fearful and panic it's going to be alot worse..

i've only had paralysis a few times. all of them this year. i only got them after reading about them, so i guess that's good for me. i only read waht was available in ad so when the time came i knew what was going on. from the very first time i thought it was cool and i kinda liked it. the next few times there were weird noises and the last time it happened there was a whole episode which i refer to as the weirdest thing to happen to me yet. i don't remmeber the name of the post but if you click my name i believe that you can see my other posts. maybe if some time is spent during the waking hours thiknking about the paralysis and actually feeling it w/ your minds eye, it will better prepare you for hte next time. if you go over the events in your head while lying down and truly try and experience them and at the same time think that everythings ok and that  this is kinda fun, maybe next time it will be. i was recently given some advice on experiences in general by another member, which changed the way i m going to look at things. it was to try and replace any bit of fear w/ a slight bit of curiousity. fear will only snowball and maybe ruin a good exp or even an obe. maybe instead of fearfully reacting "waht's going on !" you could replace it w/ a curious one. as if you were taking notes. hope this helps.

Hello all,

I am new to studying OBE and am currently reading Astral Dynamics. A few years ago I had several waking paralysis episodes. They were almost identical to what Robert describes in the book except that he said that it is usually quiet. In my episodes it starts by my hearing a very faint "alarm" sound, this sound gets steadily louder and more intense in frequency. It then seems as if I am coming out of a dream state and I now realize that I am awake and am totally paralyzed. I have tried with all of my strength to break the paralysis or yell but could do nothing. The next day my muscles would be sore from fighting it. When the paralysis would wear off I would feel a presence in the room and it would be quite frightening.

Have any of you had similar experiences or can offer any insight?

Thanks in advance Smiley

David
