I've just been wondering.. when your projecting can it also count as sleep or are you still concious? I want to know because sometimes seperation happens during school nights and I just wanted to know if it was ok to do it for long periods of time.

There's some discussion regarding it...

I think that your physical body is asleep, that's all that matters.  Your physical body is getting rest.  What your consciousness is doing is meaningless to that point.

Projection is a transfer of consciousness. When you are in your energy body, your physical body will "be getting it's required rest." I put that in quotes because i believe the physical body doesn't need food, or sleep. The physical body gets it's "food" from the energy from the sun. Like a flower lol. Also, with the sleep, just meditate. When you come back from your sleep you're downloading the information, so to speak, to your physical consciousness. So don't worry about not having enough rest for school.

IMO - You dream when you sleep, so to me it's the same thing. You may not be as conscious as when you project, but I don't see how it would make any difference.   smiley

If you're out for a long time you're body is definitely (ok probably lol) going to fall asleep.

Conscious projection can takes ages for me and when added to the time writing in my journal and then trying to get to sleep again afterwards it often means getting hardly any sleep. But if you can project quickly and get to sleep quickly I dont see it being a problem.

I think it depends on what type of projection you're having.  Something called "Alpha Intrusions" have been documented on people when they lucid dream and sometimes have OBE experiences- (I'm not sure how documented this is, I've found a couple of instances on the net) so it's possible that it may affect your rest, since deep sleep only happens in Delta and an Alpha intrusion has been known to affect it- and in Delta is where healing happens, according to many reports (some on the net, I'm sure).
So I have to say, that I think that you need some unconsciousness for your health every night.

The good news for Orbital (I think) is that when projections take a long time you go into dreamland, consciousness can't last that long.

Reading Frank Kepples posts, he said he projected every night.  He always felt well rested afterwards. Your conciousness never sleeps. But then again, they say that if you have slept well, then you don't remember dreaming at all.  So I don't know.  I dreamt a lot last night and woke up a few times during the night, and this morning I am feeling sooo tired!  I've always beleived that Astral Projection falls somewhere in the middle of being asleep and awake.
