24/03/2011:

After an eventful day at the park with our children, me and Mrs Summer went to bed around 12.30 am. I’d had a glass of milk and a couple of chocolate digestives before going to bed. I was so tired that it didn’t take me long to fall asleep. I woke up at 3.50 am to use the toilet. My sleep inertia symptoms were strong and felt like the perfect opportunity for an out-of-body excursion. I went down feeling like a dead weight and just relaxed. I sneezed a few times and Mrs Summer stirred in her sleep. I looked at the lamp hanging from the ceiling for a few seconds and then shut my eyes. I imagined it with my eyes closed. After a while I got random hypnagogic visuals. I had been observing the imagery for a while when my one-year-old son came in the room crying. He must’ve had a bad dream.

I got up, calmed him down and tucked him in his bed again. I went back to bed and started again in my attempt to bring about an OOBE. When I finally reached sleep paralysis, I heard a pulsatile hiss and my son’s voice resonated in my head. “Dad, dad…”, it said as I felt a tiny body climb up on top of me and creeping me out. It was unreal because my son would not do that and certainly not in the way in which I felt that body crawling on my chest. I twitched and snapped out of the paralysis and the hallucination ended. I had a sigh of relief and remained still. Soon I entered a familiar state of clarity and the hissing pulsation returned. I remember thinking that perhaps the ‘pineal engine’ had ignited and was revving up to a rollercoaster of rushing sounds. What followed was a sensation of detachment from everything but I was still conscious of lying in bed without visibility.

Suddenly, I could hear voices as though a radio had been switched on in my head. I couldn’t understand what they said but somehow the audio focused on a particular female voice who spoke as though it was delivering a lecture. The subject appeared to be consciousness and a sentence stuck out to me: “The I is the centre of consciousness therefore we are all centres of consciousness.” The voice then proceeded to divulge a deep secret about reality which made me experience an epiphany and yet I don’t recall what was said. The voice turned surd and was drowned by orchestral music and clapping. This was followed by a vibrational surge and subsequently I appeared to have separated from my body solely by willing myself out. Vision was hazy but I could distinguish my bedroom environment. I shifted in midair  into the hallway and towards the mirror on the wall, which looked grey and absolutely non-reflective. I glided through it as I wished to see Marge, Stacey’s deceased grandmother.

What is unusual about what followed is that I was not travelling through a dark void as is typical when I plunge into the hallway mirror. Instead, I was zooming past treetops, rooftops, roads and vehicles. When I came to a halt, I saw that I was at ground level, skittering through an alley littered with rubbish in broad daylight. The colours of the environment were dull and I tried to make them brighter with my mind but to no avail. Involuntarily, I teleported to another setting. Initially, it was hard for me to see where I was because I kept laterally zapping from surface to surface unable to fixate on a particular location. I managed to slow down my movement near the ceiling of what looked like a large bathroom. I saw a little girl, who appeared to be eight or nine years of age, in a tub full of dirty water, and her groggy face was barely sticking out. I could see her swallowing water and lots of hairs until her head was completely immersed. A scowling man entered the room. He was tall, stocky, and his hair was short, dark and spiky. Wide-eyed and in a frenzy, this character drowned the child by pressing her head further down using a plunger. Neither characters took any notice of my presence.

The intensity of the experience was alarming and I was literally in fight-or-flight mode as I witnessed that crime. My perspective changed galvanically and I appeared to be in the tub now. The room was the same but the lighting was different. The same scowling man came in and proceeded towards me. In a reflex action, I ascended to the ceiling and, when I looked down, I observed a naked boy in the tub, screaming in sheer horror. Mercilessly, the man drowned the boy, and, as he did so, he blamed the child for what was happening to him and accused him of being the reason why he was a monster. He growled and shook the boy underwater. The child’s efforts to break free were futile. I moved about the room uncontrollably as I attempted to see what else was going on. I regained physical awareness in sleep paralysis hoping that what I had experienced was imagined. My head hissed again.

I heard more voices in my head as though they were engaged in dialogues with classical music intervals. I separated again, but this time, into a dark void. I wished to see Marge and felt hands gripping me on either side and leading me somewhere. I saw light ahead and found myself in a crisp environment. Sharp colours defined a surreal scenery composed of what appeared to be Roman ruins in a forest. I set out to look for Marge there but encountered a bald black man instead. I asked him who he was and he told me his name was either Simão or João Figo. We spoke in Portuguese. I asked him where we were and he told me that we were in the same place all the time. The conversation then became more vague and dreamlike. At times I had the impression that he could say what I was thinking and vice versa. It was as if we were somehow connected. I was unsure whether I could at times control his speech or the fact that I thought what he said at times was coincidental. As I regained physical awareness, I heard mild showers in my head and my body felt cold. It was 7.30 am.

I researched the names “Simão Figo” and “João Figo” online. What I found on the latter proved to be interesting. I came across the profile of a black man who looks very much like the one I saw in my experience. As I looked closely at his picture, I noticed that he was posing in front of paintings depicting Roman ruins. Either I had a coincidental wake-induced lucid dream where I met a very elaborate aspect of myself which exuded the illusion of sentience, or, I managed to access someone else’s dream. The latter hypothesis would imply that we may be telepathically connected to strangers or that some of our dreams may intertwine with theirs.

Here's the man's Facebook profile:

I might send him a friends request and see where that goes... grin

Very interesting, Summerlander.
I recall hearing 'radio-y' voices in which they were talking about me a few years ago.  It happened in a cluster and it hasn't happened any more.
I have also done the (what in my mind is) bouncing off a mirror instead of going virtual, ending very far away, having what I thought was an astral adventure, and then later on coming to find out it was a real-time encounter in which something was happening.

Hallo Summerlander
It appears that your first OBE was to some type of lower (or middle lower) astral plane. Those are places that, while not exactly hells, are populated by disturbed, deranged and violent beings. I have travelled to some of these areas during a few OBEs and one time was attacked by a pack of semi-wild dogs. There never seems to be any reason Why I end up at these places. Maybe every now and again each astral traveller needs to be reminded that there Is a dark side and not all is Lolve & Light.

Very interesting, Summerlander.

I have also done the (what in my mind is) bouncing off a mirror instead of going virtual, ending very far away, having what I thought was an astral adventure, and then later on coming to find out it was a real-time encounter in which something was happening.

I've experienced the voices in my head about three or four times now. It is indeed like a radio! I see now that the phenomenon is more common than I thought. I have also heard what sounded like people coming in my room and talking to each other as I lay in sleep paralysis before. It can be frightening. What I also found interesting is that calcite crystals were found in the pineal gland which resemble those found in the ear. There is also reason to believe that they are piezoelectric in nature. The sonar and the telephone rely on piezoelectricity to receive and transmit...it is possible that our pineal may tune into external electromagnetic fields! Some telecommunications companies are interested in the latest findings and are already forking out money for research in order to possibly upgrade their products!

About the possibility that the "crime scene" in my experience was a real-time zone event...I hope not. It was truly horrible, like a nightmare where I was a restless observer. I also fear that the experience bore all the hallmarks of a physical realm projection too.

Intense indeed about the first part. I don't let it haunt me though, just like I don't let nightmares haunt me. It's a matter of hoping that that didn't actually happen and I try not to dwell on thoughts that crimes like that probably happen all the time in many parts of the world...

Btw, you can remember a lot of details too! As soon as you wake up write your dreams and OOBEs down in your journal straight away, even if it's just notes. Your memory will still be fresh and you will find that the more you write, the more you will remember. Taking into consideration the thoughts you had upon waking can also help as they usually turn out to be great clues for details and can lead you straight back to the dream. Exciting dreams and nightmares tend to make more of an impression and their memory is easily accessible. Anyway, you can improve your OOBE and dream recall the more you record them! You can do it! wink

Interesting concept. I don't really subscribe to lower, middle or higher as these are anthropological concepts but nevertheless it is possible that the metaphysical realm could be structured that way...or at least some projectors may choose to view it that way. I have been to other unpleasant settings where people engaged in violence and prostitution. Once I even visited what appeared to be a 'factory city' where men were enslaved and made to toil by robotic beings. Perhaps there are hellish and heavenly constructs which we can access with our conscious awareness and this time I happened to stumble upon a very unpleasant one. I loving to see the different perspectives expressed by everyone so far btw! smiley

Hmmm...if it was supposed to be a retrieval then I failed miserably. You just reminded me of the Quantum Leap series where Sam Beckett travels in time and incarnates in the bodies of individuals in order to make right what once went wrong...

Btw, what is PUL?

I've apparently retrieved/helped people in metaphysical environments...this was usually done involuntarily. There was no PUL involvement though. I just felt like helping them.

One man seemed lost once and he told me he wanted to go home. I found him in this city at night. I told him I'd help him and then grabbed his arm and pulled him off the ground as I was taking off in flight. He was horrified and begged me to leave him on the ground which I did. I just left him there and flew away. He just looked at me...puzzled!

Either I've been meeting people who have died and don't quite know it or I've been imagining that I help people! Has anyone seemingly helped characters in the metaphysical realm?

Summerlander extremely facinating stuff, this leads me to a question if you get a response from this portuguese guy and he confirms that he remembers you could it then be a possibility that ALL our dreams experiences are always shared with other individuals wether we know it or not and this realm is just for that, meeting other individuals and experiences?

Other different lower levels of consciousness relate to more satanic or evil realms and the oposite i.e. enlightenment and love pleasure joy the higher levels???

Just a thought. Great post and great reading.

I've sent Figo a request but so far I've had no response. Then again he hasn't been online. What I've found out though is that he is from Luanda, Angola, where my mum is from. I wonder if he knows members of my family there. The country was colonised by the Portuguese centuries ago and when they gained their independence in the 70s, there was a civil war which only ended just under a decade ago.

Now...

In 2nd phase OOBEs (where you project to the realm of thoughts: "Astral Projection"), it seems that you enter a dreamworld already lucid and this world can feel just as real to you (in some instances more real) than the reality you experience in your waking state. This world can manifest according to your thoughts, beliefs, emotions and expectations.

But wait! Not all is a product of your mind in my opinion (however the interpretation of the information received is). I posit that you can experience both your own worlds as well as other constructs that do not belong to you. All you have to do to visit those other constructs is to discard your own and set out to find what you want in the wider astral, just like you discard your lucid dreams in order to go to other places in the OOBE state. Lucid dreams, in my opinion, happen in the same realm but the stuff perceived is usually in your mind (unless, of course, you were experiencing a vivid non-lucid dream to start with which intertwined with that of someone else's - possible!).

Now, here's the interesting part about the Temiar Senoi tribe of the Malay Peninsula...

It is customary of them to talk about their dreams everyday. Because they have done this for so long, shared dreaming and precognitive dreaming is something which is very common. They also believe that through dreams they can communicate with the dead, the living and even the spirits of animals, plants and nature in general. This is what they believe their dream characters are - spirits of the environment. It seems like the majority of people in our civilisation, however, seldom talk about dreams, or most of us seldom remember them. It is this other life that we pay no attention to as it seems to be irrelevant to what we deem to be the only thing that matters because it is the only thing that's real: the physical realm. We don't consider dreams to be as important as the Senoi people do. For the Senoi, it is another medium through which communication is possible and ideas may arise which may improve waking life. How do we know that we've shared a dream with someone or that we've seen the thoughts of someone else when we hardly talk about dreams with others in our society?

There was a study on dreams in the 70s which proved very interesting...

A dream investigator, Joe Friedman, began to lead groups using the Senoi approach in order to learn more about the dynamics of dreams. Each week, a number of London adults aged between 20 and 50, often complete strangers, would meet for one evening to share and discuss their dreams. Each week everyone would tell one dream that he or she had experienced in the days since the group's last meeting. The group would then try to clarify the events of the dream and the accompanying feelings.

Although the main purpose of these meetings was to help members come to understand their dreams, it was found during the very first session that various kinds of psychic phenomena seemed to be facilitated. The most obvious among these was the "shared dream". Sometimes, one person's dream was even found to correspond with an event in which another member of the group had been involved the previous week. The following is a striking example...

A group member called Peter dreamed he was engaged in, or witnessing, a struggle between a scientist and the Devil. The Moon, which Peter could see out of the window, turned blood-red, became full, and came speeding through the window, rushing with great force towards the man's face. To quote from Peter's dream diary:

Quote
The Moon had entered the man's head. I knew the Moon was one of the Devil's minions and here was the agent of possession...I saw the man knocked against the wall...Then a small patch of red light shone on the wall next to his right hand.

At the time, a group member called Ron, having had difficulty getting to sleep, had been reading a fantasy book entitled The lllearth War by Stephen Donaldson. The part in which he was engrossed concerned a certain Thomas Covenant who was making a final attempt to overthrow the power of the King of Evil, Lord Foul. The power of Lord Foul was envinced by the fact that the Moon became blood-red and served as one of Lord Foul's minions.

In his dream, Peter saw a patch of red light on the wall next to the scientist's right hand. In the book, Covenant wears a white gold ring on his left hand. This ring emits a red glow during the period of Lord Foul's ascendance. Peter had never read the book, nor had he any ordinary means of being aware that Ron was reading it at the time.

Could Peter have perceived the imagination of Ron as this one was reading his book? Very possible! Perhaps the mechanisms behind this phenomenon are not so different from the one's involved in 2nd phase OOBEs when one attempts to visit people who are either awake or asleep. Here's two OOBE studies which seem to clearly show this phenomenon:

http://astralviewers.com/summerlander-journal/visiting-caitht-(a-study-on-oobes)/

http://astralviewers.com/summerlander-journal/visiting-stonezombie-(oobeap)/

About the evil and the enlightenment realms, I just want to say this: it all depends on what state of mind you are in at the time, your beliefs, what you are thinking/focusing on etc. All may affect what you perceive but no state of consciousness is permanent. To me, what people label "evil realms" I would call dissonant states where there is still some work to be done if one wishes to harmonise, be at peace, and worry less about clinging to desires as though your whole being depends on it. Yeah, you could say I sort of subscribe to Buddhism. No higher or lower...just states of mind that you may tune into and, it may be true what Frank Kepple was saying in that like attracts like and you may find other individuals in the same boat during your OOBE excursions. Well, theoretically speaking...

Yes, once or twice. Have you read Bruce Moen's work?

Oops, I almost missed this one. No I haven't. Did Moen "help" characters during astral projection too?

Interesting turn of the conversation.  I read all Donaldson's Thomas Covenant books, but only liked the first three.  But back to the question-
Bruce Moen was a graduate of TMI, who went there when Monroe was alive, and he did the course (and I believe he taught there) teaching people to go to focus 23 (where the recently dead are) and help the confused souls go to focus 27 (where the 'reception center' is).  Usually there is some psychology involved- depending on the case.

Interesting. I would have loved to be one of TMI's students and meeting Monroe would have been an honour. I owe everything to Robert Monroe. He's the reason I project. The way I do it every time is akin to the method he describes in his first book (with emphasis on using pre-naps or pre-sleeping in order to prime myself for the induction). I thought the name Moen sounded familiar! I bet he's really popular in the world of OOBEs and I'm a doofus for not knowing who he is.grin

I've read Journeys Out of the Body and I'm currently reading Far Journeys. They are just about the only books about OOBEs that I've read/currently reading. I haven't read Ultimate Journeys yet but I have read Frank Kepple's Wider Reality article which includes his model largely based on Monroe's. Both Monroe's and Kepple's experiences tally with mine often and that to me is one of the factors that makes me think there is more to it than just the "all in the head" explanation. I like the way they see things and the fact that they made these distinctions between focuses of consciousness. I'm not that organised when it comes to labelling states of consciousness but I can tell those guys were definitely onto something.

Just today I was reading in Far Journeys how in the OOBE-state, Robert Monroe stumbled upon his deceased friend Lou in the "outermost ring". Lou thought Monroe was just a sleeper who would not remember the experience. When Monroe told him about what he does, Lou pointed out to Monroe that he had never talked about it with him when he was alive.

This reminded me of one of the earliest occasions when I encountered my deceased stepfather. He seemed to know a lot less than Lou and, after talking to me about how much he regretted his suicide, he asked me how I was able to visit him. I told him that I discovered "astral projection" and he seemed curious and interested. Then I phased back to the body but I knew that somehow the conversation continued in my 'absence'. I posit that when I woke up, he continued talking to my unconscious self which must've taken over. He was to surprise-visit me in lucid dreams after that.

Yes, he has written about it in his books and you can read about some retrievals made by others using Monroe's/Moen's techniques at, see link -> Moen's site.

Thanks for the link, Pauli2! ^^

I've given the site a look-see and I found the WTC retrieval interesting. I bet many of those poor people were clueless about being dead. I'm definitely going to explore this "helping" business. The people I have apparently helped were only taken to random places by me. I never took them to any "reception centre". Well, if already many people who subscribe to the TMI's teachings have been leading those lost souls to the reception centre, I might as well do that too from now on. That place must be well established by the collective unconscious...

If you know anything else about 'helping' that you may have learnt from reading Moen's stuff, feel free to share it with me. By the way, so far my helping has been done involuntarily.

According to Moen, you don't need to lead discarnates anywhere. It's enough that you get the discarnate's attention and then think about getting in helpers or guides. They will take over once your incarnate energy have un-stuck the retrievals. If the discarnates dismiss you, send PUL to the discarnates.

You get helpers or guides to move in, merely by thinking on them.

From what I've read from Moen, talking to them is leading them there- it's just not processed that way.

Interesting thread. I remember more than one dream where I told people they were dead, only to see them fade or fly away. I was dreaming - not in conscious control. In one dream I could tell the dead from the living because they took on a more ethereal quality, very much ghost-like. I've had dreams take place in many graveyard areas or areas I felt intuitively were "lands of the dead."

I believe other people can come into and influence our dreams. It seems from my experience most of our nightly dreams happen in a mostly subjective focus, where we work out or repeat personal problems, desires, etc. (I also believe dreams can act as a channel to the super-conscious aspects of our self.)

However in one lucid dream, my deceased grandfather came to me and we had a short conversation. I don't know how to explain it, but I knew it was him (or rather what was left of his personality). He told me that the transition after death was "not easy for most people." This dream took place in a beautiful beach location, in my landlords house. The Druids among other cultures saw the beach as a gateway between worlds, and I feel this is often the symbol they play in dreams.

I remember more than one dream where I told people they were dead, only to see them fade or fly away.

I've done this too in dreams and the fact that I instinctively knew what they were is astounding. I have also had different memories in dreams which had nothing to do with waking life.

My suspicions are quite strong about this...

It certainly wasn't easy at first for my stepfather but he seems to be in a better mental state now.
