I have no idea if anything like this would be possible or even plausible, but quite a few times I have thought "oh, wouldn't it be great if this forum had a messenger?" I know it's not that hard to ask for external messenger usernames, but everyone uses something different and to have all these different programs running on my computer just to see if someone is online is a bit annoying.

Like I said, I don't even know if it is even possible because after all, this is a forum, but I thought I'd mention it. :)

Xanth has a IRC Channel found here.  https://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#unlimitedboundaries

You could always go there to chat. It has a Private Message area as well.

I wouldn't want to see this site turn into another twitter machine though. One twitter with all the "Tweople" is enough!

eeeew Twitter. I was just thinking for a way to chat in real time with people since it can be irritating to refresh the messages screen every few minutes. I find that I miss them all the time. Some sort of chat thing would be much easier, I think. I'll check that out!

It's not twitter.  lol

It's IRC.  Vast difference.  :)

There are a bunch of well knowledgeable individuals who run the channel mostly while I'm away.

The chat room is cool, I checked it out yesterday. I was referring to Lion's comment about Astral Pulse turning into Twitter. eeeeeeeew...

It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

I understands Lionheart's sentiment here, although it is not twitter it is deviating from the purpose of a fourm

so if people chat instantly instead of writing posts it might make this forum obsolete, and that's what a forum is all about, so it's an either/or situation if you ask me, btw. for personal conversations one can still use pms too

why can't people wait anymore? is this our modern times? always faster, higher better, and yet faster again?

if you write/read posts you might get answers with more substance instead of "lol, rofl, that's kewl" messages, so do we really need that online-hyperspeed instant-service mentality for everything now?

*end of rant* :|

That's my question too. I guess the cellphone, I-pad, I-phone advertisers are accomplishing their brainwashing.

We are now the faster, higher, better, and yes again faster modern man. Oh, that's right I forgot multitasking too, nowadays we are supposed to be able to that as well.

I keep trying to get onboard with this, but I know this isn't for me anymore!

I brought this up because I have met some really good friends through this forum and not all of us use the same messenger services. I'm not talking about "der der der sup, lolz!" here. @_@

And I have been using PMs, but it can really kill the fluidity of a conversation. Especially when you're excited to talk to someone. Refreshing the screen every 5 minutes can get old quick.

The chat room is very nice and I'm starting to meet people that don't talk on the forum very often.

Didn't make this to cause any anger or frustration in anyone. Or to cause some sort of vendetta against technology. o_o; And certainly not trying to bring down the forum. I love it!

I've met lots of great people who have joined my IRC chat.  It's been quite the experience over the years.
I regret not having more time to join personally in the chat much these days though.  I've been very busy with life, unfortunately.

neither the first nor the second, you misunderstood my post

i'm never annoyed by anything anyone writes here, i'd have a serious problem with life if I'd get annoyed about internet forum posts  . It's also not against technology, I'm using Skype myself to chat with friends. It's just for a forum like this the main argument of 'deliberate decelaration' which would do our Western tech society some good (also for spirituality reasons) and to choose content and substance over the (supposed) need for speed or form conducive to ever shorter attention spans

I wanna chime in and say that I think this is a good idea. I think some people just like the convenience of chatting in real time. Makes things seem more personal and, well, convenient. Simple as that, really.
