Title: I have two survey questions for everyone
Post by: jilola on July 13, 2002, 17:27:16
1) I'm looking for confirmation of my belief that we are more than meets the eye
2) No big revelations yet, but I've come to view life as a practical course of existence where we try to to the lessons of the spirit levels to practise. Anyway, for me it's nice to know I can always take the course again. I have a whole story written somewhere if anyone wants to read. Oh wait, one thing comes to my mind. There is a saying in Finninsh than translates to something like "Everyone is the maker(lit. smith) of his destiny" . I believe that to be true.

1) My motivation is curiosity about the past, future, and who I am.  I'm young, and I have a creative mind that has been and is always begging for something more than reality.  I came across this topic without any knowledge of this phenomena; I was just searching the New Age section in my Barnes & Noble for something to experience.  Something surreal and mindblowing.  No pun intended.

2) I haven't experienced anything beyond lucid dreaming as of yet.  I will report my first out-of-body-experience on the OOBEs Forum.

Patty - A side note about that big tamale OOBE you are waiting for: you can read about Robert Monroe's in the third of his three books, if you haven't already.  Great reading there.

Thanks k2sixx  for the recommendation -

I loved book one, but 2 and 3 got too 'out there' for me.

I wanted to tell you that I used to play snare, the drum section was great.  I gave it up in college, it was kind of just a way to be in the band during marching season in high school.  Ever play "Syncopation" in competition?

Thanks Jouni,

Your saying fits well with something I was writing at the same time to lone wolf on the LD forum. I like it. I don't know if it is true, but I like it.

hello to the people  :D

1)  my imagination has been my best friend all my life  and its where im most happiest,  leaving the body seems like you are able to  literally step into your own world/s  this is what pins me to it,  now that ive come this far into it i wont quit  (like i have many times due to lack of knowledge or motivation)  until i acheive an obe.

2) it has  made me understand  what emotion is....e.g.   we always remember being happy,  and never consiously think to  ourselves when we are happy.."hey im happy"  which makes me think that humankind is  always thinking of the future and what he must do now to acheive it....
Nobody lives in the NOW but, when we prepare ourselves to get a good job by going to college we discard the NOW we waist at college under stress and deadlines by preparing for a NOW we think will be better...  the thing is, we have more than enough NOW  right now.......
(the word "now" has lost all meaning to me :D )

i feel like i am learning  more and more the more i progress,  it has also definatly changed me and i know that i will never  disregard  what i have learned...
i really think that this is what man should be exploring, not necissarily OBE but metaphysics in general and the power of his own mind.  Perhaps the eastern religions could be westernised  and more  understandable.....
chakra....?????   energy center......YES      you see???    most people would shun the word chakra.  etc etc..

There IS more to existence than a 9-5 job   and i will NEVER be comfortable in this kind of routine for the rest of my life.

Hi Patty ......  : )

1)  What is my motivation?  I suppose, this is something I have experienced since I was a small child.  I grew up with it.  And during dry spells I tend to miss this aspect of my life.  It's an incredible sensation, feeling, and experience.  Can't imagine my life without it.

2) I have yet to learn any great truths ... but I have learned a lot about the brain, and how our minds work.  I've also learned a lot about people, and how different individuals percieve the experience.  But the best thing, to me, is feeling like I have the ability to live twice at once.

Motivation
1.Its FUN and makes me HAPPY
2.Being in trance alot helps me out with my probs.
3.Flying without being in an airplane is something I can never get sick of.
4.To get over my fears."Real" world and astral
5.Sick of how fake the world is.Well not planet earth itself, you know what I mean
6.To help people and myself from needless suffering.
7.To see just how far I can go
8.LOVE

These may look in order but they are not like that in my head.Thats about it I think.Im not trying to find out the secrets of the universe.Although I am curious I admit.Sometimes I think I rather not know.I already know the biggest secret. And its the last one on my list...

Alot of the things that ive learned,.I already knew, just didnt believe. Now I have all the proof I needed.Yes Im constantly learning new things. But the most important ones were already there.

(1) What is your motivation to try to leave your body?

I am searching for self, I'm on a quest to find out who am I, why I am, and what is the point, and answers to real life problems.  Been through all the self help books, now I am hoping to get some higher source information.  I had a lucid dream once, and in that state I felt I could have the answers to anything I wanted to know.  Trouble is, my little brain could only think to ask the most insignificant, silly question at the time.  You see, I'm always looking for the shortcuts in life.  I dont believe life has to be so hard and difficult, if we just knew the secrets, had the knowledge and understanding about ourselves, about life.

(2) What sorts of truths or big answers have you found through your spiritual journey (this may or may not include insights gleaned while in an altered conscious state.)

Everything I've encountered raises more questions than answers.  The more I know, the more I realise how little I do know.

I look to grow beyond what I am.  This is a constant goal.  I do it to better myself.  It is not so much to find out how the world ticks but how I tick.  You must first know who you are, accept who you are.  This must be done before true growth can begin.  I also have a couple of personal questions I am seeking answers to.

What have I learned?  A lot actually.  There is more going on around us than the every day person knows of, that much is a definate.  I have learned a lot about people in general, why they do certain things, or act a certain way.  I have also learned a lot about the huamn body, how it functions, what it is capable of, and so on.  And lately I have learned how to type faster if that counts!

1: It's a lot of fun, it's something that not a lot of people can say they've done, it's part of the unexplained, I question everything, it's something I've wondered about for a long time, I'd like to be able to travel to remote spots and "spy" on things, it may come in handy one day, it makes me feel like one of the X-Men, and I love to fly!

2: I've gained a much more deep and abstract understaning of the universe, various types of energies, and the afterlife. I think of things in terms of being types of energies and understand other unexplained phenomena in terms of being forms of energies that haven't been explained yet. I've gained a much closer relationship with God, and have a much firmer belief in the afterlife and heaven.

Hello Patty!  Hmmm,... deep questions, those!  I'll try to answer briefly, *without* having written chapter 14!  Hahaha!

(1) Motivations:  My initial motivations were almost purely a search for "truth".  I was taken with my "guide" in a full-blown OBE, and was shown many things which were to be a part of my own future.  (Although I didn't know this, at the time.)  After that, I began having visions of future events...all of which proved true with 100% accuracy in my life.  So there's no way that I can question the validity of the experience.  It seems that I had opened the communication door within myself, in some manner.  Because ever since that night, I began having premonitions, metaphysical experiences, and remote viewings.  I can only "allow" them to happen... it's not like I can do it at will, at all.  It just happens,... but I *do* get a kind of "feeling" when it can happen....usually.  Then I either allow it, or not.  Oftentimes, not... because I've had some rather fearful experiences "on the other side".
Sorry,... excuse me for rambling!  My motivations now, are simply to experience the vast realm of existence which lies within.  To communicate with my Higher Self and experience reality the way it really is, without being veiled in the cloudy sheet of materialism.

(2) Truths & Big Answers?  Mwahahaha!  And you expect *that* in a posting on a newsgroup!??   Seriously Patty,... I guess I answered that one, above?  The biggest Truth I guess, was being shown that existence is not as it seems... and having it proven to me.  That this world we live in, is only a shadow and a reflection of reality.  That our perceptions are only limited by our own insistence upon the reassurance of materialism.  That our own future experiences are molded by ourselves, with each and every thought and action...second by second.  That there is no such thing, as coincidence.  There is only opportunity,... take it or leave it.
On the lighter side of the question:  In my experience, (for the mostpart), it's not the BIG questions which get answered.  It's the little, almost irrelevent ones.  But you see, they really *are* the big ones!  For if they bring you to the assurance that there *is* something more....well, then that's the big Answer.... isn't it, now?  :)  IMO Patty, you will never meet the "Supreme Creator" (for now), whereupon He sits and chats with you as if talking to an old friend.  That is simply not possible, given our extremely limited concept of understanding.  The Creator has already given us communication, in the only way we can understand the language.  He said,... "Hey!",... and we behold the Universe!  (And we can't even get that!)  Let me make a comparison... what you ask would be akin to a very small red ant sitting upon your shoe, as you are typing into this newsgroup.  (Or perhaps even, a single-celled paramecium!)  So that they might understand,... how can you possibly communicate with them, and explain exactly what you are doing, and why?  And I have a feeling that the distance between the Supreme Creator and ourselves....is probably 1000-fold more!  But He has simplified it for us...because the Creator is *also* as close to us as... looking into the mirror.  Or at the stars.  Or the birth of a newborn.
As per your own desire for answers,... you will find them by seeking out your own Higher Self.  This is the totality of your own being.  The "you" which retains *all* of your life experiences, past, present, and future lives as well.  The "you" that knows what your goals and reasons are for being a part of this current life-experience.  Many mistake this being for God.  Or Angels.  Or Guides.  He/She is actually *all* of the above!  It doesn't matter (and he/she doesn't care) *what* you call them!  It is your Higher Self!  "Guide" is a good term by which to personalize and classify it.  Makes it easier to digest!
I have always "sensed" my own Guide beside me in my travels.  He held my hand and walked beside me once,... and I didn't even question it!  And it was as real as any reality in the material realm!  But I was so taken up in the beauty of the surroundings which he had brought me,.. that it never occurred to me to turn my head and look at him!  Aaarrgghh!  (sheesh!)  But I kept this in mind in the future.  I admonished myself that when next I sensed his presence, I would at least try to get aquainted... and ask his name.  (Thinking that I could use this information in the future.  You know,...for contacting him by name.)  Well, it worked.... sort of.  :)
I later became aware of his presence during a vision, and remembered what I wanted to ask.  I sensed him off to my left, possibly 50 yards away.  I turned and looked, and there he sat upon a stone wall watching me deal with my scenario.  But I guess I chose the wrong words for my question to him.  I simply asked,... "who are you?"  (Which, in retrospect... is not at all the same as, "what is your name?")  And so, my Guide answered me... " I am The Watcher, The Looker ".  And then it was over.  But during the swift progression from the vision and back to "normal" sleep, I was once again bombarded with a "rote" of understanding completely, just what that meant.  (It's like a sudden, and total insight...and as complete as it can be.)  "The Watcher, The Looker", has a dual function in my life.  Active, and passive.  While the Watcher has the ability to "watch out" for me, and can alter my experiences, the Looker is merely a passive observer of my progress here.  From the Looker I can gain understanding of my mistakes, and of my life's affect on others...and learn from it.  From the Watcher, I can gain the insight and ability to do something about it.  To change my present, and future realities.

Aaaaarrgghhh!!!  (I just *knew* this would turn into chapter 14!!!)  :)

Sorry so long....?  I'll shut up, now!  Hahahaha!  :)

1) I'm terrified of death.  I'm terrified that it will be the end.  I'm hoping that maybe by having an OBE and exploring the concept, I can discover that maybe we do go on in some sense.  Maybe there is more to it all.

2) Nothing yet, I'll keep you posted.

Hi Patty, and all.

1 A. I used to do it as a small child, and generally liked it. My mom also can do it. Not like Robert describes, but with the intention when she goes to sleep.

1 B. After researching quite a bit on magick, I think that the astral plane is probably the best place to work with it, and undo negative aspects that have been applied to people. I would like to get in the postion of helping people that have unwarranted influences, but cannot deal with it themselves, or maybe even comprehend it.

1 C To see what is there.

2 I have not managed a fully conscious OBE yet. Close, but the realization of it happening pulled me back out. In some semi(?) OBE's, where my conscious was active outside my body, I have battled, healed, and undone negative influences around myself and others. Though I would like to recieve "great truths", it is not my primary reason.

Take care, all.

Answer 1...
The Obe started randomly by itself. I was 12 and couldn't control what
was happening to me. Only after trial and error, I was able to learn how
to direct my thoughts and motions in this new world. Curiosity and the
excitement of this strange experience benefitted my whole life since...

Answer 2...
I have found that being on the outside gave me a sense of the great
power and energy that flows around all life. Being consciously away from
the physical body, you can feel the freeness and the movement of energy,
as you are surrounded by it and absorbing it too. That rush feeling of
adrenaline upon returning to the body is the recharge of the etheral.
I now know there is a second underlying existance, it is there for everyone
to experience. Centuries ago we probably all knew it existed, and used it
often to learn and gain knowledge from.
Ok, now I'm rambling....

Besides it is sooooooo much fun--I feel like I can finally breathe!

" In regards to nature,...Fish appear to do what there meant to do, Birds and other animals do the same, WHAT the hell are we doing, and why?"
I don't think I could have said it better so Im not going to try.
Im still working on my first obe but have managed to get some vibrations going ...ahh progress

(1) What is your motivation to try to leave your body?

(2) What sorts of truths or big answers have you found through your spiritual journey (this may or may not include insights gleaned while in an altered conscious state.)

My answers -

(1) Primarily, I think I would live more at peace and at ease if I KNEW, through and through, that we survive physical death. This seems like it would be good for me as well as for those around me. Secondarily, it's fun, and it pisses off my husband (wicked grin).

(2) The only big answers I have ever figured out is that, at any given moment,  we can choose to make loving decisions or not.  I didn't get this from any altered conscious state, but from severe depression, when I finally decided to try to live.  I've had dozens of (not-quite-satisfying) LDs and OBE's/AP's but I am not sure if you get real answers there or not. (I'm still hoping for the big tamale of OBE's though, where I meet God and he explains it all to me and it makes sense.......... heh heh heh why not..........)

So - I am curious what your motivations and insights are.  Or just one. Or the other. Or ramble if you feel so inclined.

Patty
