Dear Squeek,
A near death experience only takes place after you are flat lined. So coming close to dying doesn't count. Your heart must have stopped and your breathing too.
A near death experience is the experience of your astral body after you 'appear' to be physically dead. Actual death only takes place when your silver chord (what binds your astral body to your physical body) is severed. This is why it is called a "near death experience", because you really didn't actually fully die - That binding astral chord never broke.
At present modern science and doctors in hospitals can't fully and accurately discern when a person is fully 100% dead because they are only making that judgement based on their physical body's reaction, when in fact what makes up a human being is not just the visible physical self.
In the act of resurrection (one of the supposed miracles Jesus performed)for instance, he had to act on the Astral plane to reconnect the dead person's physical body to his Astral body by 'mending' the silver chord.
At any rate, such an experience (NDE) is very similar to a strong energy OBE. Some avid OBE'ers would say it is actually the strongest possible form of OBE which results in what you see and hear to reflect physical reality extremely accurately.
One who is lying on a hospital bed flat-lined and entrees into an NDE might be able to float above his body watching and listening to what the doctors are doing and saying... he may even penetrate walls and see what is happening in the room next door etc. Eventually, his astral body snaps back into his body and he gains consciousness as his heart and breath also return. Afterwards the person retains full memory of the event which to most people is quite the spiritual awakening because they were able to experience first hand that they are not just their bodies, that life exists beyond our physical shells, and that consciousness is not bound to our corporeal selves.
Take good care [:)],

Some have experienced a lot more than that. [;)]
I heard alot about these online somewhere and how they change your outlook on the way life is and all that stuff. I also read it helps your obe'ing somehow....somewhere...Anyways.
I almost died twice. So, when is this supposed to happen? Seriously... I'm not a changed person at all! I was no different that day than I am today! (except maybe I appreciate music more and and a bunch smarter)
Look. Now I'm a clown [:o)]
Post ya replies. Shoot me down. Make me feel like dirt.
