If there's one thing I've learned through my own experiences it's that when you're projecting... when you're experiencing the non-physical... things are NEVER as they appear to be.  Experiences aren't literal and can't be taken at face value.  What "seems" like you exploring the "real/physical world in a non-physical body" simply isn't the case.
Times that I've felt like I've been AP'ing I've done things like float above my bed an witness myself sleeping,. I did this if anything to prove to myself that I wasn't dreaming ya know,.
Are you saying that projections are always to the 'astral plane' and perhaps what I think is reality is construct in my own mind?

I was under the impression that Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming are dramatically different things,.

Don't waste your time.  When you're in what you're calling a "lucid dream", you're ALREADY projecting.
What you need to do is learn to place your Intent in order to experience someplace familiar to you... like your bedroom.
You don't need to do anything special beyond that.  :)

Thanks Xanth, the difference that I've noticed though between AP's and LD's is that in a Lucid Dream I have complete creative control over my reality, for example if i want it to be sunny I imagine its sunny and it is. The couple of times that I've got out of my body in what I think are AP's i seem to be exploring the 'real/physical' world in a non physical body - this is what I'm really really interested in.

Is it your understanding that through intent alone I can phase between the two?
(I've been using things like the rope/roll/float/ladder/fall techniques)

Hi everyone. For a while now I've been trying t o turn my Lucid Dreams into OBE'S. I've had a couple of successes but quite often what happens is, I feel for my physical body in bed and as soon as I feel it I wake up.
This morning I was having a lucid dream and I decided to try somethings else so I did the falling backwards technique- in my dream I stood still and then just fell backwards.
I go the sense that I was passing through my bed and then floor and really felt like I was AP'ing however everything was dark and I had this horrible feeling that I couldn't breath. This very quickly shocked my back to my body and I woke up,.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?,. I'n OBE's I've had before I could see clearly and I don't remember even needing to breath, let alone being conscious of it. I get that my LD could have just slipped back into an intense dream but again breathing is something that I've never struggled with in a dream,. I mean usually I can breath underwater/blow my head up and all that stuff in a dream,. so I'm a bit confused,. also me dreams are never never never black :/

Thanks in advance

All the best

That makes sense cuz I actually get up earlier than that weekdays,. so i did feel unnatural to go back to bed i guess,.

I have another quick question if anyone can help:
Are there specific times at which its easier to AP/OBE?
The reason I ask is because the couple OBE's that I've had were the result of going to bed and waking up at pretty much the same time (9-10,3-4). Last night however, I went to bed quite late,. I still woke up after 6 hours and did everything else the same but it was fairly light outside and I didnt even get close.

IT WORKS!!!

So last night I went to bed,. not as early as I would have liked but I set my alarm for 6 hours later. Turns out I didnt need it because 6 hours into my sleep I just woke up (my body always seems to wake me up like 5 mins before my alarms go off). I got up turned the lights on and had a walk around the house, then when it felt right I turned the lights of and went back to bed with the intention of APing.
I slipped straight into a LD in which I though,. right time to leave my body and I visualised my conciousness leaving my physical body,. BOOM the vibrations started and I could see my room as my conciousness was exiting vertically out of my body. This only lasted for a few secconds (I think I got distracted) and I snapped back into my body with such a thud that it woke me up.
So I didnt really get all the way out.
The exciting thing is that I now have confirmed to myself the process for achieving AP and I know how to get out,. so I will just keep trying :)

As you further your knowledge of the NP
Sorry,. whats the 'NP'?  :-D

...It's tricky tricky tricky,.

This is brilliant,. thanks everyone,. I believe I'm on the right path,. I'm basically just trying to quite everything down (my mind and temporal stuff) and look within,. it was never intentionally trying to be 'spiritual' or anything,. but since I started meditating I can see a difference in my self,. the things I value and the way I see and treat others,.
The thing that really shocked me was when I had an OBE because it just opened up so many questions in my mind,. biggest of which being 'do we have souls',. I mean we must do right? theres no other explanation for what I experienced,. I'm an experienced lucid dreamer and have had dreams of all kinds,. this 100% was not a dream,.

I'm now caught between my old 3 dimensional way of thinking and a new x dimensional way of thinking and I'm just trying to figure it out.

Ok,. brilliant,. cheers mate,. I'll make this habitual! :)

Hey everybody,.

I have a simple question,. what is spirituality and what (IYO)  is the 'soul'
The reason I ask is that for a few years now I have been what I would consider an atheist,. I believe in no god an no religion,. but here's where it gets tricky,.

I have recently been exploring the idea of OBE's,. I've been a lucid dreamer for a long as I can remember and have been meditating for about a month now,. sooooo,. the other night I had a bonified OBE (see http://www.astralpulse.com/forums/welcome_to_astral_projection_experiences/my_first_ap_any_advise_really_appreciated-t44997.0.html) and its caused me to question everything I believe in,.

So now I'm asking myself,. what part of me left my body?,. was it my soul? if so what does that mean?

lol,. sorry for the waffle,. I just have so many question,...

Quick question!

I know exactly what time I fell asleep and woke up, the night that I had my successful OBE's. Would it make sense to use this as model for future attempts?

I'm thinking I might just go to bed at 9 every night and set my alarm for around 3 as this is what happened,. except I fell asleep by accident and only woke up because I still had my contacts in,.

:-)

Thanks everyone,. this really helps. The reason I was so close to my body was because I've never AP'd before and I wanted to analyse my sleeping body in order to confirm that it was a projection.

I have another question if people have time,.

When I was projecting it was really really dark,. is this normal? If I project/remote view at night will it always be dark?

I noticed this presence and found it was my sleeping body. It only occured within a short distance of where I lay.
No worries, you are getting used to the extra senses you have that are present in the non physical.
:-D

So in your experience does this feeling fade the further you get away from your body?

The fear HAS to be removed ir it'll hamper your attempts.
There's nothing bad in this, the second entity you felt will be the sleeping body. You scared yourself with this duality of conciousness. It's one thing you'll get used to quickly now you know what it is.

Thanks for your response. So if I get out again and again feel that presence/fear, what should I do? I'm not entirely sure that I could confront it, or should I just try to convince myself that theres nothing to be afraid of?

Again I really appreciate your help in this,.I feel like I've discovered something mind-blowing!

Ah,. also,. everything was very dark! I'm not sure if this was because it was night time or that I'm just not very good at this yet,. but my lucid dreams are never dark, there always vibrant and bright.

I did some meditation last week whilst listening to an AP audio tape,. The exact same thing happened to me - completely involuntary my eyes just started going crazy. I listened to the tape again though the next night and got to the vibration stage,. so just ignore it I reckon and it'l probably fade away the way other distractions do :)

Hi everybody, I'm very new to all this and am just looking for some advise/communion really.

For the past month or two Ive been attempting to OBE firstly through LD'ing (which I naturally do), then through (a lot of) mediation, the closest I've got is to the vibration stage through mediation using an OBE audio tape about a week ago.

Anyway, im sat in bed, ive just woke up and I AP'd for the first time last night! :)

I just want to talk ppl through what happened and really get some confirmation that what happened was a projection, because again I've never done it before:

So 6 hours after going to sleep last night I woke up, I then stayed awake for a while (I've read about WILD). When I was completely awake I turned the lights off and went back to bed, with the intention of maintaining complete awareness. I fell asleep! lol

Here's where it gets a little strange, I didnt have a Lucid dream, however I knew that I had to projects so (in my dream I closed my eyes, looked up and tried to leave my body), at which point I became completely lucid and aware of my astral body (i think) leaving my physical body. This was backed up by incredible vibrations that I felt running up and down my physical body, I could see the sky and I was rising higher and higher in it.
I wanted to prove to myself that this wasnt a dream so i projected myself to my house, i then floated through my back door and the through the ceiling into my room where I found myself sleeping in bed, IT WAS STRANGE!!!,. I floated at ceiling hight looking at my body in bed but as I tried to get closer to my body I got 'sucked back in' and felt myself back in my physical body, at which point I woke up.

I was really exited and lay down to try and project again, at which point I found myself again flowting in my room looking at my body, but I felt a dark presence in the room which scared the crap out of me - I mean really really scared me, so I scrambled back into my body and woke up. I thought this was a pretty successful attempt and was to scared to try again so took my mind away from LDing and APing and tryied to just get some mindless sleep.

For full disclosure I have to mention one thing - when 'I projected' to the back of my house the house itself, looked pretty much exactly the same is it does in 'real life' except my father has recently built a conservatory which (i dont remember) seeing,. could this mean that what I actually experienced wasnt a projection but just a new kind of Lucid Dream?

I would really really appreciate any advise on this or jsut general feedback on my experience,. its got me rather exited :)

Thanks
