I can't be of help as I have never tried it, but I will say that I THINK I was pulled out by someone or something (maybe a spirit guide?) my very first time... I felt my blanket pull of my back first then felt strong vibrations enter the center of my back (almost like a laser gun or something, very intense and painful) and then I felt the SP and vibrations and felt myself start to peel out. I had NEVER heard of OBE's before that first experience so it certainly wasn't something I was trying to achieve or had at the back of my mind... In fact, I thought I was being attacked by demons or aliens and became scared of the dark and of sleeping.

I know this old, but it made me think of an OBE I had when I lived on my own with my two cats Cleo and Deja.

One night I felt myself roll out of my body. I was laying in bed right next to my physical body and I looked up and saw Deja hanging UPSIDE DOWN from the ceiling! I thought, what is she doing up there? Then I started to get really scared. Maybe there was a spirit holding her up there and I just couldn't see the spirit! Then she quickly fell, still in an UPSIDE DOWN FEET UP position and stopped about two inches from the top of my bed. There she was suspended in mid-air. Then I REALLY started to freak out! I snapped myself back in to my body from the fear and saw both Deja and Cleo were at the foot of my bed sleeping peacefully.

So strange...
Maybe Deja would have made a good "teacher?" Hahaha.

Funny to come across this thread as I just STOOD MY GROUND as a firm believer that the entities I encounter during OBE/trance state are in fact entities (spirits/guides/whatever??). I agree with Astral WHOLE HEARTEDLY. How could it be my imagination if I'm IN THE MOMENT and not having any sort of expectations beforehand? I don't seek my OBE's afterall... they just happen when they want to. It seems like they mostly happen, IN FACT, when an entity is around and perhaps needs help (of which I have NO IDEA how to offer  ) or just wants to communicate for some reason...

Read my post called "Little Girl Wants to Play" where I go into detail about two shared experiences my husband and I had as further proof I do NOT have an overactive imagination nor do I belong in a psych ward or nut house. Hahaha.

Some people say it's just my conscious or just my imagination/hallucinations... I know it's not. I know it's real.
Maybe they have never encountered spirits or guides before? I don't know.

There was a time when I would lean towards agreeing it wasn't a REAL spirit but just a hallucination or something...

But then, my husband and I had a few shared experiences and I knew I wasn't crazy! I knew it wasn't my mind playing tricks on me! It is great to have validation. Scary, but great at the same know know what I mean?

So here are the shared experiences we had:

1) My son was around 6 months old, soundly sleeping in his crib in his bedroom near the back of the house. My husband and I were watching TV in the living room in the front of the house and we had the baby monitor on. We got ready to go to bed and we turned off the TV and then both went to turn off the lamp at the same time when the room suddenly got EERILY QUIET -- a quiet and calm I had not ever experienced and have not experienced again since. We lived on a SUPER BUSY street in town, cars with noisy mufflers, sirens, buses, motorcycles, you name it going up and down the 4-lane street at all hours of the day. In that moment we heard NOTHING. It was as though time stopped or something! We both looked at each other with this strange look in our eyes that seemed to communicate our "OH excrement, WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING" thoughts to each other. LOL. Then we hear what sounds like a boy's voice, about 12-15 years old say, ".....bbbbooooo!" OMG. I had chills! It came through the baby monitor! As soon as it was over my husband and I both ran to check on our son. He was fine and sound asleep. Of course our infant did not say BOO in a teenage-ish sounding voice. LOL.

2) I was feeling the vibrations (but not out of body) and I got a picture of a girl in my head. She looked sort of like Princess Leah because she wore her hair the same way. She would not leave me alone. I kept trying to get out of the "trance" (? or whatever it was ?) and she kept sucking me back in, or so it felt. I was really scared. Finally I snapped out of it and laid there wide awake. About 5 minutes passed and my husband started to hyperventilate! I shook him awake and he shot up in bed and said, "There's a woman on your side of the bed and she won't leave you alone!" Whoa. I had not even had the slightest chance to tell him. He said he chased her around the house (he OBE's too though not nearly as often) and she still refused to leave. Almost like a child. Though she did not appear to be a child, maybe a teen, but not a little child. Anyways... he said he got so mad at her because she was talking back to him saying things like, "You can't make me!" LOL. So he told her, "Get out of here! God wants your head to blow up!" He still to this day feels bad for saying that to her, but she DID leave. We haven't seen her since.

That's why I am SURE, 100% POSITIVE that the "beings" I see are not due to an over active imagination or anything else but what it really is. I feel really lucky to FULLY BELIEVE that because it's not fun when you're always questioning yourself and your sanity. I know!

Anyways, I look forward to your reply because I don't know what you meant by PUL or F 23. And for that matter, I don't know about the helping with a retrieval thing. Not saying it can't happen, but I have only left my bedroom during OBE once and I don't know how or why I got where I was. I mean I wasn't flying, walking, etc. I wasn't thinking about going anywhere. I was just there. Hmph. I wish we had a ONE SIZE FITS ALL manual. LOL.

I heard her a few days earlier (but didn't see her) and that time she said, "Wanna go bye-bye?" And it really freaked the heck out of me!

I think you felt awake but like the others have posted you were in an IN BETWEEN state. That is when my OBE's ALWAYS occur... without trying, totally random. I often feel like I am WIDE AWAKE when they happen but afterwards I realize that my MIND was fully awake and aware but my body was asleep, paralyzed, motionless....

Just a few weeks ago I had an OBE and I heard my alarm clock go off, I heard my husband tell me it was time to get up, I heard him go downstairs and wake our son up.... I heard a man's gruff voice say, "The damn lighthouse won't quit calling!" And then my husband returned upstairs and again told me to wake up and I couldn't! But wait, I was already up, wasn't I? Strange feeling indeed! So I concentrated on moving my fingers and toes knowing that would snap me back IN and sure enough it did. When I got up my husband said, "You're running late!"

About your eyes shuttering.... that has happened to me on many occasions too and it feels really strange and bizarre! I think that it's your SPIRITUAL eyes, at least in my case I think that's what it is. But I'm not sure!

I think that you were out of your body in this experience. It sounds a lot like my experiences. Sometimes I have an OBE and yet I don't leave my physical body. It's like I'm laying right on top of or shifted to one side of the other of myself. In fact I have only left my bedroom once. I get too scared during the experiences to try to go flying or anything! I'm just starting to "open my eyes" and see things during them.

You asked what it will feel like and while everyone is different, as you've heard before, this is how it feels FOR ME.

In the beginning I would feel myself separate from my body. Usually my upper body first then my lower body. Now however... I am JUST OUT. I still feel the vibrations however they are a lot less intense and I'm OUT much quicker once they hit now. Also, well they used to be all over head-to-toe they are sometimes now only in my head. I don't know about anyone else but I MUCH PREFER feeling myself leave my body so I know I am out. LOL.

I have only left my bedroom once during an OBE and I don't know how I did it. I wasn't thinking ooooh, I'd like to go.... nope. It also happened so fast it was as though something else, or someone else rather, wanted me there and somehow brought me there? I have never gone flying as others have stated because I'm too damn scared to try it! LOL. Sucks! I have only felt myself floating above my body once. A few times I have just felt SO RELAXED head to toe that I feel myself sink into my mattress! Usually I am just laying behind or in front of my body.

I guess my nickname could have been SLOW LEARNER for this website since my first experience was way back when I was 19 or 20 and here I am 34 and still have no control over them. Grrr.

Ok, so two nights ago I had another unprovoked experience. How I wish I could control this "gift" already!!

I got the vibrations and buzzing sound in my head and then I guess I was out. Geez, I used to feel myself roll out or peel out but that feeling is gone now. I didn't realize that I was "out" until after the experience was over.

So anyways, I get the vibes and then I see a little girl standing by my side of the bed. She was between 5-7 years old. She wasn't whole though. She was kind of flat, more like a picture. And she was not in color, just black & white. She flickered in and out almost like a static-y TV station or something. She said, "Do you wanna play with me?" I managed to get out a "noooo" and then I waved at her. My left arm was feeling uncomfortable in a 90 degree angle with my elbow hard pressed against the mattress. I actually remember thinking, oh no, my discomfort is going to snap me out of this experience. Anyways, when it was over I saw that my left hand was under my pillow and thus under my head. It was not in a 90 degree angle and could not have waved at the little girl that's when I knew I had gone "out."

Any takes on why she appeared black & white and flickering in and out? Was it because she wanted me to know she was from that time era (black and white movies/tv)? Was the flickering because she had low energy?

I know this is going to sound morbid and probably just plain WRONG but when someone I love dies now I actually think, "Lucky bastard!" LOL. Ok, just for a split second. Then I return to my selfish reasons for mourning like the rest of the people who loved him/her.... because I will miss them. But I mean I don't think death will be a bad thing at all. Having had so many experiences with the other side... I KNOW that there is more than this life. I for one can't wait to feel what it's like to be TRULY FREE. The only reason I would not want to pass away/cross over at this point in my life is because I have two beautiful children and a husband whom I love and would miss deeply - again selfish reasons. Haha. I think Xanth is right... projecting CHANGES your view of death.

There's a song that says, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end...." I think that about wraps it up. 

hahaha, funny about the freaking your gf out bit. my husband and I freak each other out often or should I say freak out together sometimes? LOL.

another night this woman would NOT leave me alone. i could hear her like you hear with your physical ears telling me not to go - I don't know if it was an OBE or not. I say that because while I DID feel the normal vibrations that I feel during an OBE I also didn't feel "out" and although I saw her, it was more like a picture in my head. Anyhow... she kept saying, "Don't go!" And I tried to stay awake but it took me awhile to accomplish that because my eyelids (spiritual ones I think?) kept fluttering open/shut, open/shut. Anyhow... I finally managed to stay awake and as I lay there my husband began to hyperventilate. I let him go for awhile then when it got crazy loud and fast I thought I had better wake him up. I shook him and he goes, "There's a woman on your side of the bed and she won't leave you alone!" He said that he chased her around the house demanding she leave and she kept refusing so he finally told her, "God wants your head to blow up!" Then she left. He still beats himself up about that... about saying that... LOL. Anyhow. That was the first time I knew for sure that this stuff was REAL and NOT my imagination or whatever.

I should mention that I don't usually "go" anywhere during my OBE's either. I'm thinking it's because I've never tried to go anywhere since I don't usually "see" and feel very vulnerable and scared in that state. Not sure how I got to that huge library or office building. Didn't feel myself walk, run, skip, hop, fly, float, or any other sort of movement. I was just.... there....

I wonder if there are any accounts of what this Akashic (spelling?) Records looks like? I wonder now if that is where I was? And hmm, how did I get there?

Hi. I'm new here, but after reading a few threads here thought I'd share an experience I had about 4 years ago. First I should note that my mom was battling non-hodkin's lymphoma at the time and was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

I was taking a nap when I felt the vibrations and went out of body. I heard a woman's voice saying, "HELLO! HI. HELLO??? HI??? CAN YOU HEAR ME???" I tried to speak to her since she sounded friendly enough, but what came out was unintelligible, muffled, garbled, vibratory, I dunno how to exactly describe it but it didn't sound like real language. The girl laughed at me and said it's always like that the first time you try to speak but it would get better. It did. We were able to talk back and forth. I was also able to "see" which I don't usually "open my eyes" in my OBE's due to the noises and voices I hear that scare me. But again, she seemed really friendly. When I "opened my eyes" I was at this huge library or office building? It had these enormous filing cabinet drawers. She was dressed in scrubs like a nurse. She had a tub and climbed a ladder. She opened a huge cabinet drawer and was putting supplies (couldn't see what) into the tub. She then said that she had to leave to take care of my mom.

A few days later I found out that my mom went to the doctor's and was now cancer-free!!

What do you think? Do you think I got to meet a spirit healer or healing guide or what?

I'm kinda mad at her, though mostly just thankful. But she did tell me she would be back to speak with me and help me to develop my gifts and well it's been 4 years and I haven't seen her again. 

Wow. First, hello to you glad you found this site. I'm new here too.

We have a lot in common. My OBE's just started out of the blue too only I was around 20 when mine began. I'm 34 now and I still have some level of fear associated with them. I think it's awesome you were able to see and move on your very first experience! I have never been able to move, but it might be because I have never tried since I also don't usually "open my eyes and see" so my fear increases. Dunno.

My very first experience was crazy. It felt like electricity was being shot into my back and radiating vibrations, STRONG VIBRATIONS (almost painful!) head-to-toe. My back actually hurt that night and all the next day! I felt my blanket pulled down from my back! I also heard two distinct voices but they were unintelligible - very muffled and garbled. I tried so hard to move but the SP was SO STRONG from the INTENSE VIBRATIONS that I couldn't move. I did manage to lift my leg up (I am a side sleeper) and it actually hurt and remained suspended. When I finally snapped out of it I got up and checked my back in the bathroom mirror. To my surprise there was not a bruise or scratch or any other sign of the "laser-like gun" I felt. When I went back to bed I turned my light on and I tried HARD to keep myself awake but couldn't. It just kept happening. Someone or something was enjoying my fear...? I had never heard about OBE's before, like you, and I thought I had been attacked by aliens or demons.

I still have OBE's from time-to-time and I still don't have control over when they will occur. I also still don't "go" anywhere. Well, I did once... but I don't know how I got there!? LOL.

Hello! New here also. Nice to meet you.

I know this is an old-er thread but I had to comment anyways. 

When I was about 11 years old I walked into the living room and my mom asked me what perfume I was wearing. I said I wasn't and my grandma got this nervous look as my mom said that something smelled really nice. My grandma ended up leaving in a bit of a huff. She never spoke about it.

I met my husband online. He was from Missouri. We talked online and/or on the phone daily for months before meeting in person. One night he told me about his spirit guide and how he was an Indian Chief and he liked to smoke payotee (spelling?). Weeks passed and I was teasing him about his "druggie guide." Almost immediately I got this STRONG, STRANGE smell that filled my one bedroom apartment located thousands of miles away from Missouri here in Cali. I told him what was happening and he began to laugh. He said it was his guides getting back at me for calling them druggies. I don't know, to this day, if there was some other explanation for it or not....? I know that the smell lasted for HOURS and once it was gone it never returned. I had lived in that apartment over a year at that point and had never smelled it before. I remained there for another 2 years and never smelled it again either. Very strange huh?

Well I didn't meet my husband until I was like 23, three years after my first experience. I really don't know what triggered the OBE's but I definitely feel like something or someone wants me to have this gift for some unknown greater good. Like myself, my husband had experiences throughout childhood. I think I get my abilities/gifts from my maternal grandma though she would have never fessed up to them! I remember when I was about 11 years old she was over at our house and I waked out of my bedroom and into the living room and my mom said, "Oh you smell nice! What perfume are you wearing?" I told her I wasn't wearing anything. My grandma looked really uncomfortable and said she had to go. We tried to get her to stay as she hurried off. I think there might have been a spirit following me and she could see/hear them? She was a very private person. She would never speak a word about her family and how they came from Italy to America. The only thing we knew was that when they got here they changed their last name and the kids (my grandma and her siblings whom I never got to meet) were told not to talk about Italy, to not speak Italian ever again, etc. Strange huh? So sad when people take that stuff to their grave with them. Anyhow... yeah... When I was little I had recurring dreams of a guy who was kidnapping little girls. I have no way of going back to see if it was really going on. I would see his face so clearly back then (I was about 4 or 5). I would tell my parents and they would just roll their eyes and say I was being silly or whatever. Then there was the shadow man who silently watched/protected? every night in my room. All sorts of things... My mom used to say I was her "weird" daughter. LOL. Nice huh? Way to help me embrace it. My kids are going to have gifts too. My son used to have a pretty close relationship with my grandpa who died when I was only 4 years old! He would come visit him. He even told him he was going to have a baby sister before we knew the baby was going to be a girl. He used to have an invisible friend named Duke too. Once it was just me and my son at home and there was a loud bang/crash in my bedroom. I jumped and he laughed. He said, "It's just Duke mom." My daughter gets scared in the middle of the night and says there is a monster in her room. We were watching a cartoon the other day and they showed "ghosts" and she goes, "That's what the monsters look like mom!" She says there is a man with glowing red eyes that lives in MY closet. Yikes, thanks honey! LOL.

Thanks for the replies. I felt the pain the entire next day just on that spot on my back. Someone told me it could have been a chakra that opened up or something like that? I don't really know. I don't get pain any more. But I still feel the vibrations.

Oh hey, I forgot to mention another really crazy experience. There are MANY. LOL.
But this one was AWESOME 'cause it confirmed, FOR ME, that these are not made up in my own brain or whatever...

There was a woman standing by my side of the bed. I couldn't "SEE" her but I "saw" her in my head. She looked a bit like Princess Leah and no I am not a Star Wars fan! LOL. But she wore a white gown and had her hair in two buns on the side of her head just like the character. Anyhow... she wouldn't leave me alone. She kept bugging me - my OBE's are usually induced by spirits, I think? Anyways, I kept getting the vibrations and I couldn't shake her. I would try to stay awake but my eyelids started to flutter like crazy and it was a very strange feeling not having control over your own eyelids. LOL. Anyhow... I finally managed to lay there awake for awhile hoping she would leave and then my husband started to hyperventilate in bed next to me. He does this on a regular basis as  he talks to spirits in his sleep often. He gets mad at me when I wake him because he says he is helping them. So I let him go for awhile. Then I shook him awake. This is what he had to say, "There's a woman on your side of the bed and she will NOT leave you alone!" I was like wow, no kidding!? LOL. He didn't know what she looked like, just that she wouldn't leave. He said he chased her around our house and then finally yelled at her, "God wants your head to blow up!" OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! He still feels bad about saying that YEARS later. LOL. She left and I was left with a new appreciation and understanding of these OBE's. Like wow... I'm not so crazy afterall. I didn't tell him. He was asleep. There was no way he could have known. We both experienced that spirit that night.

I used to see a shadow man in my room when I was a little girl. Every night. My mom would say it was from the furniture or toys. She would rearrange things and say, THERE. He'd always reappear. At first he terrified me. Then I came to have a silent understanding with him. He never hurt me, afterall, so I deemed him a silent observer, maybe he was there for protection.

But then a few years ago, while sleeping at my mother-in-law's house in another state I started to have the vibrations of OBE and felt a presence behind me. I opened my eyes and could see this shadowy figure on the wall in front of me and it grew taller and taller and wider and wider. It really scared me! I woke my husband up and he said not to worry that it was just the guy that lives there and he likes to scare and intimidate people but has never harmed anyone. Gee thanks! It worked, mission accomplished I was both scared and intimidated. LOL. Didn't get much sleep that night. Too scared to drift off again.

Another night, I got the vibrations at my aunt's house in the same state about 2 hours away from my mother-in-law's house. I opened my eyes and saw a glowing ball of white light. It was floating about 2 inches above the bed near my husband's feet. It seemed female. It was beautiful. I watched it gracefully and peacefully float alongside the foot of the bed and turn the corner eventually stopping behind my back. I was too scared to turn around. I concentrated and woke myself up. I wish I hadn't. I wish I hadn't been so scared. I have never seen her since.

About 4 years ago I saw a nurse.

Once I saw people sitting around a table floating mid-air playing poker.

Once I saw my cat Deja (I don't have her anymore) floating upside down from the ceiling in my bedroom! She then fell down and stopped a few inches above my bed still upside down. Then my mind started to race. Hmm... could this be a spirit holding her up there and I just can't see the spirit? What the hell is going on? I woke myself up at once and found Deja laying curled up at the foot of my bed.

Once I felt this creature I can only say felt like a big cat (lion?) that straddled my back. When I got scared it would clamp down tighter and tighter.

I have heard troll-like voices many times but have not seen where or who they came from.

Old thread I'm sure but I'm new here and just want to put in my 2 cents. LOL.

I get the vibrations head to toe. Sometimes they are super intense to the point of causing real physical pain even afterwards! Sometimes they are more mellow and mild like goosebumps all over.

I can certainly say that I have never had expectations of feeling vibrations. In fact like another post I read, I thought my first experience was an alien or demon attack! I had never even heard of OBE's before let alone vibrations.

One thing is that I can't tell the difference between vibrations. For instance, I was once at the In-N-Out Burger Drive-thru and I just got this sudden realization that there was a spirit in the parking lot. I was fully awake ordering dinner mind you when suddenly it felt as though the spirit had entered the car with me! I felt the same vibrations running head to toe thoughout my body and was certainly not having an OBE while in the drive thru. It scared me out of my mind. I think that some people, like myself, might just be more sensitive to feeling the vibrations....?

My name is Karen. I'm 34 and a wife, a mother to two (a 9-year old son and a 4-year old daughter), and a teacher. I live in Southern California.

I started having OBE's when I was about 20 years old. I did not go looking for them, in fact I had never even heard of them before!

I got really scared with the first experience because it seemed to last FOREVER and I could hear two troll-like voices and could not make out a single English word. My back hurt for like two days after this first experience. I remember when I FINALLY got up the nerve to get out of bed I went straight to the bathroom to see if I had a scar, scratch, bruise, ?? on my back because the pain was REAL and INTENSE. I thought for sure I had been messed with by either alien creatures or demons. The vibrations I felt were SOOOOOOOOO INTENSE beginning at that point on my back and spreading head-to-toe over my entire body. At one point I even felt the blanket pull down off my back! SCARY! I thought for sure there was SOMEONE in the room with me.

These experiences went on DAILY for at least 6-months to a year. I went to metaphysical stores and chatrooms trying to sort it out (again, fearing it was demonic). I read books about protection and grounding. I wore crystal necklaces and placed obsidian at all four corners of my bed. I burned a sage wand and smudged all the walls in my bedroom all while reciting some protection prayer. Talk about a stinky waste of time. The whole time my family thought I was losing it, as in going crazy. The whole time I was spinning out of control. I couldn't get a handle on these things. I never knew when I'd have one or why. I began crying at night trying to fight sleep. Sleep became scary. I began sleeping with my bedroom light on (I was in college mind you!) because even a night light or hall light didn't feel "safe" enough. Again, my family thought I was going crazy. How absurd. What is she talking about strange voices, vibrations, feeling herself peel out of her body...

Here it is 14 years later and while I still have OBE's from time-to-time they aren't nearly as often (about 4 a year give or take). Recently I have been having a lot of them again. Just the other night I heard someone say "The damn lighthouse won't quit calling!" I have no idea. LOL.

About 4 years ago I had my first and so far only really vivid OBE. I heard a woman's voice saying, "HELLO? HI? HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME?" I tried to speak with my lips and it just came out really muffled and unintelligible. She laughed at me and said that is how it is the first time and that it would get better. It did. I was able to have a conversation with her and even see her! WOW! She looked like a nurse, wearing scrubs. Where my closet usually was it became a big hallway. It had these LARGE filing cabinet drawers that seemed to go all the way to the sky. She stood on a ladder and reached into one of the drawers. She was putting supplies into a tub she was carrying. I couldn't see what she was getting. She told me that the two women who were assigned my case (to teach me??) got fired and aren't allowed to "help" other newbies anymore because of how badly they scared me on my first experience. She told me their names but I forgot them. Then she told me that she would be back soon but she had to go because she had to go help my mom. My mom was at the time battling non-hodkin's lymphoma. I later found out that my mom had a doctor's appointment a few days after this experience where she found out she was now cancer-free. Yay! I think I got to meet and speak with my mom's spiritual healer!!!!

It was such a pleasant experience and I hope to have more like that. I can do without the ones where I see my cat hanging upside down on the ceiling or troll-like noises or "creatures" straddling my back, ya know?

Well if anyone has any words of wisdom for me I'd appreciate it. Still trying to find out WHO or WHAT wants me to do this (OBE thing).
