I've reached the 3 dimensional blackness several times, and each time I feel as if I am venturing deeper and deeper into the darkness, which of course, scares me back. I can always feel my heart begin to race and my breathing becomes a bit quicker (but still under control) as I venture deeper. I absolutely love this state. The swirls of black against the blackness, the small pinpoints of light that occur at random and in random places in the darkness, the swirling colors (almost always purple/violet, and moves much like how a lava lamp moves and morphs), the feeling of such heaviness and yet at the same time bouancy (if that makes any sense), and the sligth paralysis. A couple of times I felt as if I was heading straight into the darkness at a high rate of speed, which again, scared me back. Each time I experience this I get a little further into it. Hopefully one day I can stay calm and see where it truly takes me!
And oh yah, I always acheive this state of 3-D blackness just by focusing on the breath. I use the 108 method: each inhale/exhale is "1", which in essence means 108 breaths. The mind should stay extremely focused though, so as to not let the mind wander between the slow-taken breaths/numbers. Almost always I am at such an extreme state of calm and the 3-D darkness has already begun to take effect when I reach 108 (usually by the 70's or 80's I begin to feel changes occurring). It's a difficult thing though cuz the mind wants to wander and many times you lose track of what number you are on (I will usually start over...ugh...good mental discipline practice I suppose). This works for me at least.

Damn, I am in the exact same boat! I have all of the above mentioned occurrances but no OBE or projection myself (though I try and try and try). I did feel that once I had some sort of remote viewing experience during the heaviness/3-D blackness stage which was awesome, but that was about it. Keep trying and lemme know what helps you cross that bridge!

Yah, good one.
I've asked friends and they seem to think that it is indeed the vibes and I am catching the tail end of the experience. Would be nice to "wake" in the midst of leaving the body though. Someday perhaps.

Thanks for your reply.
Actually, this has been happening for a couple of years now. I really never get sick (not even a cold) so probably some sort of ear infection/sickness wouldn't play any part of it.
Posture-wise it's always the same: basic sitting meditation posture, legs crossed, hands in lap (or on knees), straight back...
My first instinct was that it might be something physical as well, but that "pulling" force seems like something that is not coming from within. Almost as if someone had attatched something to the side of my neck and was gently pulling on it.

This happens almost everytime I meditate:
It usually happens when I am in a very deep state of meditation (just regular "focus on the breath type meditation) but has happened when I am in not so deep of a state of meditation. Anyway, I begin to feel the right side of my neck being "pulled" to the right. Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes very very strong.
There have been times when it has been so strong where I feel as if my neck is being completely pulled from my shoulders (though it is NOT painful). I feel as if my neck is being pulled to the right and then up a but, so that my chin is being wrenched up and to the right also. Odd part is.....when I open my eyes I am sitting straight up and my chin is NOT yanked or pointing up and to the right, although I would SWEAR that my body actually twisted in such a manner.
There have been times where I just "go with it" and my neck area seems to do a 180, where I almost feel as if my head has been twisted and I would swear that if I opened my eyes I would be upside down....but alas, I open my eyes and am siting perfectly upright.
Would this have something to do with my throat chakra? Is it "blocked" or "overstimulated"?? I know that chakra has a lot to do with faith and creativity and such. I am a very devout Orthodox Christian (NOT fundamentalist though) and I am an avid musician. Maybe that with help the understanding.
Any clues or input would be most appreciated!
Peace.

So this happens about once or twice a month:
I will wake up suddenly and I feel the bed slightly shaking, or rather rocking (kinda side to side-like). Being that I live in California, we have quite a bit of earthquakes. So most of the time I write it off as an earthquake (though nothing else in the room seems to be "moving" or "shaking"). Anyway, the rocking or shaking is really subtle, but enough for me to recognize that shaking is happening. Within moments of me waking up and recognizing this, the movement stops. I always go onto the USGS website and check to see if there was indeed a quake during this event, and ONLY ONCE has there been a quake. Odd.
Sooooo......
Would you say that I am feeling the "vibes" (possibly as my body was returning or about to leave)??
Thanks for any input!
Peace.

Hey! Me too!! I get really deep into the "blackness", deep into that near-sleep state, really focusing, deep calm, and then I can tell that I am becoming aroused. Sometimes I even feel some wierd tingling in that area before, during, or after. Very odd. WHY does this happen!? So glad I am not alone on this one, either! Any thoughts anyone?

It's been awhile....maybe someone will respond to this prodigal son, heh heh.
In my previous posts on this thread (and in this post itself) I talk of being in sleep paralysis, relaxing, "going with it", then feeling weightless, and feeling rushed "up" as the sounds of swirling winds surround (or take me up) me. This has happened about a dozen times. And each time it's amazing. The roaring winds get louder and louder as I feel myself extremely relaxed, very weightless, "buzzing", and energy all around me. The point is......I ALWAYS have my eyes closed during this whole experience. Too afraid to open em during the loud winds and wierd feelings (vibes?). Curious: if I were to open my eyes, would I find myself projecting?? Would I be "in the air"??? Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but I am sure others will follow up on your post as well.
My understanding of vibrations is when the spirit is preparing to separate from the body. The vibes can vary in degree and intensity from person to person, so one person's experience may differ greatly from another's. Each person's journey is truly a unique one.
I tend to feel a more electric type buzzing that flows through my body which is often accompanied by not so intense tremblings inside (can't really explain it better than this...the small vibes in me are "deep inside" my body, don't even know if my muscles are the things vibrating or what it is). Once I woke up after an incredible experience to the feeling that my whole body was rocking side to side as if on a hammock.
Good luck and much peace in your Journeys!

Yah, you know I used to get very distracted by my sleep paralysis. VERY. I used to even get pretty scared and fearful, which is actually a VERY common reaction. After several sleep par. experiences I learned to relax through it, not to fight it, and "let it happen". As soon as I learned to relax during sleep par. things would begin to really happen. I would feel my sleep par., focus on my 3rd eye (eyes closed), imagining my body was weightless. Crazy the things that followed.
The "buzzing" in the experience that I wrote in my last post just happened. I didn't expect it. It actually came around on its own as I was relaxed in my sleep paralysis. It got louder and louder and actually scared me a bit. When I got scared I kind of tensed up in my muscles and the buzzing seemed to get further and further away until it was no more and my sleep par was over.
Good luck and much peace in your Journeys!!

Religion is not the problem. People are.
So the question should be...do we really need people? There would be no more stealing, rape, murder, hate, etc.
I'm very serious.

I too get those cold feelings on the back of my neck..have never had anyone explain what that might be. Sometimes (but rarely) it starts at my neck and feels like it's slowly oozing down my back (down my spine). Doesn't worry me or anything like that, just very interesting. I too have no idea what it could be.
Never had the burning feelings though...except when my legs begin to cramp from sitting too long in meditation sometimes, heh heh.

Wow, I recently had that feeling too...feeling a mass power surge feeling like it was bursting forth from between my eyes, kind of in the area right above my nose. I was in sleep paralysis when this happened to me. I could even hear a loud high pitched buzz too. Crazy. Interesting to hear that it was probably the chakra activity...

Most definitely! I remember the first time I heard the loud "winds" (coupled with the feeling that my body was forcefully flying upwards at a million miles per hour!). I was terrified. Each time this has happened since then I have gotten more and more comfortable with what is happening. Now I am at the point where I truly hope that each night will bring on such an experience! The last time it happened I panicked for one moment and then totally relaxed, and then other incredible stuff was able to happen because I "let go". I guess fear comes with the unknown, but once the "unknown" has been tapped a few times, the fear dissipates with each passing experience.
Thanks again everyone for all the input!

Thank you all for your help and input!!!

Thanks.
I guess more specifically, what are the "winds " about? I I know they are called the "astral winds" but what does that mean necessarily? By hearing the swirling winds around my head, was I leaving my body? Was I returning? Was I already out of it and in the astral world? Are the winds located on a  certain "plane"?
Any answers will enlighten me!

Wow, a lot of nonsense here. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to belief systems and such, but damn...
Christianity and Judaism came out of paganism??? I can't stop laughing. Wow, where did you find that info? Message boards don't count.
I studied Hebrew culture/religion (pre- and post-Old Testament era) and early Christianity in college and in grad school (majored in Semetic languages and Theology) and I found no such things in my studies (which was extremely comprehensive). The beliefs of Judaism were rooted in a monotheism towards YHWH (the unspeakable name of God) and pre-date anything else we have on record. Even the Ebla tablets prove this (tablets found in the ancient Near East which confirm much of the OT/early Judaic beliefs and accounts as unique to the region and beyond...Babylonian, Assyrian, Ugaritic, and Phonecian systems were themselves variants, not precursors).
As far as "core Christian beliefs" here they are:
-There is one God and one God only who created the heavens and the earth
-Jesus is the Son of God (God in the flesh..."son" denotes "in the order of..." not kinship)
-Jesus died and paid the penalty for the sins of humanity (past, present, future) and resurrected 3 days later
That's it, my friends. It is what makes Christianity "Christianity". The Bible is NOT vague concerning these things whatsoever.
Now, something else to ponder: The Old Testament contained exactly 300 prophecies about the Messiah and Jesus fulfilled them ALL. George Heron, a French mathematician, calculated that the odds of one man fulfilling only 40 of those prophecies are 1 in 10 to the power of 157. That is a 1 followed by 157 zeros. Compare it to this; your odds on winning the state lottery are 14 followed by 6 zeros. Another mathematician, Dr. Peter S. Ruckman, claims the odds of being fulfilled only 60 of them by the only person who claimed to be the Son of God, and who died on a "tree" on Calvary, and who rose the 3rd day are astronomical!... not just one in one trillion, but one out of ten to the 895th power. That is a one over a one followed by 895 zeros.
Many of you might be experts at astral phenomina and such, but when it comes to anything outside of it pertaining to religion, your understanding fails you. Severely. It's OK to say you aren't sure about something. No one will blame you.

Quote from: Heather B.
I felt her lean closer to me and hold my shoulders in her hands.  "You cannot hide things from me... why are you weeping?"

Its very pleasant to read what you experienced in your sleep, one thing that stands out to me is the above quote, would the spirit need to ask why you are weeping if it knows all?

Good question, but...
it is a very common thing to see God-figures or incarnations asking questions which they should obviously know the answers to. Jesus always asked questions (which, if you believe He is the incarnate God, makes sense here), for example. God asks questions to Job during Job's suffering, and so on. Rabbis and priests in Jewish culture (esp. during the period 2000-3000 years ago) always answered questions with a question. I think that somehow our answers serve a purpose. God can tell us answers all day, but there's something about an answer coming out of our own mouth and our own ears hearing it. It's like a counselor who asks questions which you know they already know. It's like therapy I guess, and that's the beauty of our human autonomy, in that we are not robots made by God (freewill) and we can say what we will.
I remember when I'd fall off a bike and skin my knee as a child. My mom would look at it then ask me "Are you OK?". Of course she knew I wasn't, she saw me damn knee!! There was something else at work. Something like a self-assessment and self-realization of my predicament. I think there's something to that.
That's just my 2 cents.

Beautiful experience, Heather. I had a similar experience though not quite as extensive! Wow. Hope is a powerful thing and the good Lord knows when we need it most. The poem "Footprints" comes to mind...if you haven't you should DEFINITELY check it out. I think it'll speak to you in such a time as this...

I have experienced sleep paralysis about a dozen times in my lifetime. It used to scare the hell outta me until I started understanding what was really going on. I also know now that sleep paralysis is a prime opportunity for an OBE or astral projection (so I've been told and have read on these here boards).
So last night, after about 20 minutes int o my sleep, I kinda wake up and realize I'm in sleep paralysis....can't move a muscle but I'm awake enough to know it. After a brief panic, I calm myself down and focus my mind on my 3rd eye point (my eyes are closed). I immediately feel as though my body is speeding head first into the darkness. I begin to see purple/violet flashes of light. Odd geometric shapes (all symmetrical) begin to "speed past" me as I move forward at great speeds. Then the sudden roar of wind fills my ears. Very loud but not deafening. It seems to be swirling around me. I can hear my breathing speed up and I hear it very loudly. My eyes are still closed. The wind continues to roar. My body moving forward still and feeling very very light. I panic for a moment and think about my body lying in bed and I totally come back and am full awake. I open my eyes, still seeing symmetrical geometric shapes outlined with violet. And as I lied there in my bed with eyes open, my body felt like it was on a boat - rocking steadily from the left then to the right then back and forth again and again til it slowly stopped. The left side of my body (the side I was laying on) felt rather cold. I actually felt great awe and pleasure after it was all said and done.
Any feedback on what I experienced!?
Now about the winds....these were the "astral winds" correct? Does hearing these winds necessarily mean that you are leaving the body?
Thanks much.

Quote from: JonathanYou can pretty much interpret the bible to mean anything:)

Um, that's not really true. Yes there are some places of vagueness (the Book of Revelation for one), but in matters of core Christian doctrine, there is absolutely no question as to what it means.

Quote from: NickJWIf Christians aren't going to be accepting of our practices, then we might as well debunk their religion. Sorry Mustardseed, but Christianity is too damn arrogant to be left alone.

People are arrogant...not the religion or practice they follow.
It is people, humans, and the flesh which is arrogant.
One should be aware as to never confuse the fallibility of humans with the infallible of the spiritual. For example, not every Muslim is a terrorist.
If we bash a belief system for the failings of the humans who make up the system, then we are all damned.

Thank you so very much. Could you post the simple technique for me anyway? Thanks again!!

So my next question would then be....why is this happening in the first place? What is "setting off" that particular chakra?? What does it mean? IS this a "block"?
I am not focusing on it (doing specific chakra work), but rather the sensation happens on its own as I am merely focusing on my breathing. Very curious...

Thanks so much!! Good to know I'm not "wierd", heh heh.

I will try not to be too graphic...
When I am in meditation, 9 times out of 10 I begin to, um, get like a "half-erection". Ususally about 15-20 minutes into a good meditation, my groin area (scrotum more specifically) begins to tingle and I then get a minor erection (which usually lasts anywhere from 10-20 minutes). What would cause this? I don't know as much about chakras as I should, but would it have something to do with the chakra in that area?
I know this is a wierd post, but I am very curious as to why something like this happens. Thanks so very much.
Peace to all.
