Is regress even a word?  Sometimes I feel like I make words up..

One of my fears about the next life is something will happen where I'll regress spiritually.

It seems only logical with each life we'd learn more and hopefully get closer to being enlightened and whatever comes after that.  Im just really afraid I wont remember any lessons in the next life and start from square one.  I hope the higherself always choses a life where they'll learn more.

One thing that also bothers me is I wish we could chose to remember this life.  At least at one point.. Ive heard of people who remember some of their past lives.  Is that always through hypnosis or do any of you remember your past lives?

Okay this is kind of a weird question but is it possible to have a lucid dream/obe as another person.

I went to sleep about 6 or 7 am this morning and was very pleased to have a lucid dream.  Now this isn't that uncommon for me but what i wanted to do was have an OBE so i started trying to make that happen.  The weird thing about the dream was i never really felt like myself the way i usually feel in a lucid dream.  But i remember clearly using many of the techniques I read on here to try to pick my locations.  I just know i didn't have that much control over where i'd end up.

I had a version of a sleep paralysis i was trying to get back in my body.  But then in the dream there were these, beings of somekind.  They had really colorful faces and were small female type beings that were on top of me and telling me not to ever (cant remember the words they used) but it had to do with violating another persons dream?  The bed I was in wasn't mine which is strange for me because normally I wake up and have the end part of the lucid dream wherever i am sleeping.  I also felt like i was younger than I actuallly am.
At the end part of the dream/obe I remember being worried i had violated some huge ap code and i kept telling the beings i didnt mean to do it.  That it just happened.

I really think this was a result of finally having my first lucid dream since I have learned about ap.  I have had spontaneous lucid dreams all my life but a few months ago they stopped when i started reading about astral projection.  I think partly due to fear that part of what i was doing was real.  Also in this lucid dream i found myself in someone's house which was something i used to do in lucid dreams all the time (go into the nearest house) but when i walked through the wall i felt really bad in the dream because i scared the people.  So i just started running and scared some other people who were on their way inside the house.  they didn't see me but looked quickly at the place i was walking through.  (i hope thiswas  aprojection of my fear that i violated a privacy code of some kind and in no way did i really scare anyone).  Like i said i didn't have complete control over the dream so im not positive it really was an obe.  In the last house i went to a being saw me and started chasing me.. they were pretty ticked off i was in their house.

I woke up at the end of this thinking "yes i finally had an AP" but what i immediately thought after was "no wait i didn't because that wasn't me".  Im sorry if this doesn't make sense but it was such a vivid dream and i had full consciousness in it it just didn't feel like it was me.

I dont know if anyone has ever had this before, i also dont know if you can scare people even if it was an ap.  (accidently) where the person would probably think its a ghost or something.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / crazy?
September 13, 2004, 04:56:25
Yes.....

Welcome back!
Good to see you again.[:)]

Yes, I do agree that there is a very thin grey line there, which can and does get crossed.

I have recently been learning more of the spirit world through direct contact with its inhabitants. Though I've been blessed to have only been in contact with the helpful and loving ones, I don't believe this is because I'm just lucky. It's because I believe most of the nasty ones don't come from outside a person, they come from inside.

Regards,
James.

If it happened, and it is in the past so it cannot be changed, then does it really matter if it was suppose to happen or not?

Mistakes are just lessons from which we should learn.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / a little tired
August 26, 2003, 16:44:37
Dear Goingslow,

Big cyber hug...if you don't mind.[:I]

Taking anything too seriously I don't think is healthy...for anyone.  Hey, just look at Bob Hope.  Now there is one very old guy in good shape.[:)]  While he probably takes some things seriously, he always sees the humour and the joy in life.

Personally, I think some people take all the joy and humour out of communing with God.  Heck, I sometimes laugh even when I am meditating.  I don't get the whole, I'll beat God from the outside into you, thing. The 'I'll make you understand' thing. Where is the joy in this?

The spirit flows from within outward for me.  Understanding flows from understanding self inside first.  I see very little joy in the forum.  In my mind something is wrong, when there is little joy flowing from within outwards.

Very Respectfully,
timeless[:)]

Welcome to Magic! / interesting divisions
August 14, 2003, 10:08:25
O.T.O == Ordo Templis Orientis, the Order of the Eastern Temple. A Thelemic order of ceremonial magick.
It's a descendant of the Golden Dawn gang, IIRC. Someone correct me there.

The distinction Crowley made with the addition of k is because with the addition the gematria of the word makes sense. Or so I've gathered.

As for reading vs. learning by burnt fingers, I'd say read first, then think, go back to reading then think again. Give it fair go and after the smoke (literally in some cases) clears think about what you accomplished versus what you intended to accomplish. Go back to reading [8D] There is no sense in blundering in the dark if there are resources that'll shed any light on the subject.

Ceremonial Magick(CM), Chaos Magick(ChM) and Intuitive Magick(IM) would be my classification.

In CM the adept follows a carefully built structure of ritual and symbolism to place himself in control of the universe in order to effect a change in it. There are several subcategories of CM, Theurgia, Goetic and Enochian Magick to name a few.

In ChM the adept constructs sigils etc. that represent the goal of the working, commits them to memory and them after forgetting the conscious meaning attempts to project the goal to the universe via a state of gnosis achieved with some method or another. The process is repeated until the goal is realized. Fake it 'till you make it.

IM is somewhat descendant of CM but with less strict rituals and symbolism. The adept has the option of creating a suitable set of ritual and symbolism for himself. I''d put the various traditions of Wicca in this category based on Gardner's background and by the fact that while the traditions are often coven centered one can deviate from the norm, if you will, and adapt the rituals and symbolism to suit one's personal character.

Why to Ceremonial Magi look down on others? Well, in general they don't [8D] But as many CM practitioners feel an overload of pride in the fact that to do anything one sneeds to read ([:D]) and memorize a huge amount of detailed information some get a bit aloof and contract attitude.  CM is an individualistic form of magick in the extreme withthe adept attempting to become the centre of the universe, in essence.

If you want to talk about magickal mechanics and the universe talk to a Ceremonial Mage, if you want to talk about altered states and what's in your soul look up a Chaos Mage.
But if you want to understand anything think for yourself [;)]

Someone will be around directly to point the many oversimplifications and outright mistakes in the above.

Goingslow, I understand.  The "topic" is locked but the subject is not.  If you'd like to start a new post regarding the reality of magic feel free to do so! Maybe I'll just cut-and-paste my opinion on the new thread [:D]

We don't want to encourage the kind of tinkling contest that happened yesterday between *ahem* certain members; the participants will only end up covered in tinkle.  I had to take TWO baths last nights to get if all off me.

Welcome to Magic! / Drawbacks of doing magic?
August 08, 2003, 00:40:40
Hello Goingslow,

Let us simplify things as much as possible. Performing magic is little different than performing some action in real life. The main difference is that you are usually acting with invisible forces , rather than those detectable by our 5 physical senses ...for most people. When you get advanced enough you can see/feel/touch etc these invisible forces.

The causes of what you are doing are acted upon on the mental and/or astral planes of existence (these are invisible for most people). The effects are realized on any one of these two planes and/or the physical plane as well.

As far as consequences go the saying "you reap what you sow" still very much applies. So the karmic consequences of your magical acts can be both positive or negative (as is the case with the consequence of actions you already perform on a daily basis).

quote:

Are there consequences for doing "harmless" magic? I think you know what i'm getting at. I've always thought by getting into magic youre just getting yourself in potential trouble. Is this true?

It depends on what you mean by harmless magic. As for the second part, if you don't know what you are doing then that also implies you don't know what the result/consequences are going to be. So yes there is the potential for trouble here. Such a description fits in with the definition of a Sorcerer. This is typically a person with some magical ability but without the right understanding or control of what they are doing and so yes in some cases they could cause some problems for themselves and others. A true "magician" always knows EXACTLY what he's doing, the meaning of every single action he is doing and why he is performing the magical act and with a solid understanding of what it is that is going to come out of it.

Like any other skill you learn in life. Study it well to understand the basics of what it's about and how it works. Practice the underlying pre-requisite skills so you can master it faster and gain control in perfecting your skill.

Lastly, it should also be mentioned that "magic" isn't as simple as reading a few books, buying some paraphernalia (candles, swords, pentacles etc) and chanting a bunch of stuff in Latin or little rhymes in some book.

In order for magic to work, the primary skills that needs to be mastered are:
1) One Pointedness Concentration
2) Strong Will and Emotional Control
3) Right-Understanding
4) Right-Method/Action
5) Perseverance & Patience

Without these, you can spend years reading dozens of books, lighting lots of candles, making lots of wishes and saying many pretty verses with ZERO results. There are some people that due to past-life work have some natural ability, but these people are quite rare and often don't have enough control when they start out due to not enough practice in current life and not enough understanding of what it is they are doing, because the intellect of their previous lives they did magic in, was not transferred to their current bodies/brains.

Magic is an exact science. When you perform a magical act, you should already know what the result will be. If the result does not occur exactly as expected, then you either did it wrong, don't have enough power or not enough control. The basis of magic are not "magical" at all, everything has an exact explanation and everything is quite logical just like the laws of physics, chemistry etc, the science of magic also adheres to Universal Laws that are immutable and can thus never be changed. The wise say, Magic is the ULTIMATE science, because from it all other sciences can be explained and derived.

Best Wishes,
Adept of Light

PS. Purchasing books and only reading them can not do you any harm. Start by educating yourself. Then make a sensible decision as to whether this is something you still wish to pursue. :)

Hi.
A friend told me years ago to protect my energies when in town etc.  She explained that it was the same process we used to prepare for Soul journeys, white-lighting and using the light to form a shield around you. It is easily done, even when walking etc.

I used to feel drained after a day in town, and grumpy, so I tried her suggestion.  It worked very well and I no longer suffered from being drained by those in the street who had less energy, for whatever reason.

Some time later I realized something about the act of protecting 'our' energies. Firstly, it is not 'our' energy, it is the universe's and it flows through us.  Secondly, if the first is true, then why are we stopping the flow of universal energy?  I responded to this by asking the Guides for a process that helps all of us in this situation. What I got given was an interesting idea and I have since tried it.  Now I use this method all the time.

When down the street, particularly on welfare day, I bring in white light and let it flow from me to those less fortunate.  You would be surprised how it effects other people, they immediately light up and smile!!!  When I begin to feel drained again, I simply bring in more white light and continue to share it.  Energy naturally flows from areas of large amounts to depleted areas, that is how energy flows in the universe.

With this method, I am never drained when I get home and many others have also benefitted from the sharing. [:)]

Love always.

I don't think we ever really found out. I think that was just an illustration of the main point of the movie - that reality is a dream (i don't mean we're literally asleep somewhere) and through dreams we can discover the secrets of universe etc. Well that's what i got from it anyway [8D]

Welcome to Astral Chat! / cults
July 30, 2003, 12:32:52
According to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary

Main Entry: cult
Pronunciation: 'k<
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: French & Latin; French culte, from Latin cultus care, adoration, from colere to cultivate -- more at WHEEL
Date: 1617
1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents
4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator <health cults>
5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion

So basicly any group that believes in something to give some kind of devotion is a cult. We could probably be considered a cult according to the dictionary, but so is every other group of people with a central idea.

If you are having trouble remembering your dreams and projections then I would suggest keeping a dream and OBE journal (if you do not already have one.) The habit of writing dreams and projections down on a regular basis greatly improves memory. Soon you will find it much easier to recall nearly all of those experiences instead of only remembering parts and segments.

I have hinted at a question and no one has really answered so I'll ask again.  For people who project regularly and have "controlled" projections where do you start?

For a controlled, conscious-exit projection you start from C1 (Physical).

quote:

It may seem simple but I really dont know where to go or how to go about finding a locale where I can visit on a regular basis.  Maybe part of it is the fact I still think im dreaming, but even then I often find myself searching for something I dont remember finding in MOST projections.

Chances are highly likely the reason for this is because you haven't yet brought your degree of realisation ability, and sense of conscious awareness up to the requisite levels. At the very minimum, these two factors need to be at least at the same level a normal person would experience while awake and alert on the Physical.

quote:

Do you have to have a guide first?

It helps, but it's by no means necessary. I think it boils down to what suits each individual. I tend to go through phases where I might project on my own for a few weeks, just projecting for the joy of it. But doing so tends to accumulate all kinds of questions; especially when I find myself getting out of my depth; or I come across some phenomenon I haven't seen before.

So then I'll go through a phase of projecting with a guide (usually my regular, Harath) to get answers and advice. But after a week or so of daily lectures on this and that, I'll get the yearning to go freestyle again. And so the cycle repeats.

quote:

Do you focus on a location and go there then have a set plan on what to do?

With me, I tend not to focus on locations. I focus more on seeking answers to questions, or clarification on matters which I feel are important to me. Then I hold this in mind as the projection experience is unfolding. Once I have been to a location several times to the extent that I know what the place looks like then, yes, I can simply picture the location and off I go.

quote:

What is a controlled projection?

The full term is: controlled, conscious-exit projection. It describes an experience which begins at C1 and progresses through various, recognisable inbetween states (Focus levels, in Monroe-speak), and finally ends up within the Astral at a place of the person's choosing. Performed correctly, at no time during this process should a person either lose consciousness, or lose control of the experience. It should be one smooth and controlled transition.

quote:

Where did you start when you decided to plan out your projections?

With me I found it all works much better if I concentrate more on getting answers to questions, or seeking clarification on matters that are important to me; as opposed to thinking about the actual projection process.

Projection is an exclusively mental process so having the right kind of "thoughts" is crucial. Having the right Intent, or Desire is very important when it comes to kick-starting the process. Any kind of Doubt, puts a *major* spoke in the works, of course.

HTH

Yours,
Frank

I write in a journal..I don't trust stuff on my computer because I know my parents would just LOVE to steal all the crap I have on it to see what I do.  And even though they're in a book, I hide the books (One for standard, one dreams) way far away.  No way to find them.  So that's where I write, because I hafta hide my work.

Welcome to Astral Chat! / hobbits??
June 19, 2003, 02:14:28
Hobbits or Halflings.  They started out as a mix between humans and dwarfs I believe.  However with the multitude of such unions the hobbits basically became thier own race with groups of them banding together originally and evetually breeding.

Goingslow,

quote:
Maybe more and more kids will be listened to and at least not told by some parents its their imagination and they need to get over it.

I agree with this.
I'll risk repeating comments made in other posts as this seems like a good topic for them...
I have read now many times that we are born with the ability to "tune in" to many more realities than the "common" reality we all know and live in. As we grow, we have the "common" reality forced upon our way of thinking by well meaning parents and other adults who feel the need to make sure that we end up with our feet firmly on the ground and have a firm grasp on reality. All of the makebelieve and imagination that is a part of our childhood is forced out as we grow older.

The thing here it seems is that there is a part of a child's imagination that is not fictional constructs of the child's mind, but their ability to percieve other realities. I have had a few discussions with people who claim to have been able to willingly and easily astral project or phase as children.

As we get older, and the influence of our societies accepted views are imposed upon us more and more, until we lose the natural ability to tune in to other realities, unless we regain it through determination and practice.

James.

goingslow,

Ok, I'm really dating myself, but here goes. I read the first three books of his when I was in college. That is, The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge; A Separate Reality: Further Conversations with Don Juan; and Journey To Ixtlan. All of this was when the books were first published, from 1968 to 1972. They were fascinating reading. I couldn't wait for them to hit paperback or the library, so as soon as each one was published I'd buy the hardback edition and devour it.

That was a many years and many books ago, but I'd still recommend them. Just pick up the very first one (The Teachings of Don Juan) and see what you think. If nothing else, its a good read.

Very best,

hi Going Slow have you read journeys out of the body by Robert A. Monroe he talks in depth about this subject (in fact there is a whole CHAPTER ON IT!!!) but any way he delt with it by telling him self that he would confront it some other time and this put it on the hold for a short time untill he actually came to confront it and was taken to a large pit full of bodys constantly haveing sex and talks of how sickly just the sight of it was. Then  every time he felt the teptation or urge beginning to over whelm him he just thourght of the wriggling mass and it would diminish the sexual desire. But he says it always crops up every now and then and thus to get rid of the sexual desire he thinks of the wriggling mass.
any way next time you find your self confronted with this over whelming sexual desire mentaly state to your self you will deal with it at a more apropriate time.  so tell me if this helps (fingers crossed)[:)]

I take all of that back.  I was able to try the roll out method this morning.  (its great having to wake up 5 hours earlier than usual).  Its been good for OBE's anyway.

It worked well this time. And had an intersting time. Must have been a fluke that one time.

I once read a book that said it was possible to go so far as to possess(sp?) someone and even had a method to do so.

The title was something like "Astral Travel: Your guide to out of body experiences".  It was quite a good book actually.

You said your roommate waved at you when u were in OBE. Have u asked him whether he has waved at you when u wer back to the physical body?

a method thats popular among occult sites that are sort of in the dark (compared to this site anyway) is to climb on top of a dresser or building or whatever while ld'ing and then jump off. its supposed to trigger something in your mind, the falling sensation thing. i've never obe'd before so i dont know how well it works.
