Once you get out for your first time the previous attempts become easier.

That seems to be the case.  I found decent success two years ago when I really worked at it regularly and was projecting at least a couple times a week.  When I started again recently, the first time I just fell asleep, but the second attempt and every attempt since has been successful.  Granted I've had to take a little time off because I've been busy with some stuff right now, but as soon as I'm done with all that I'll be right back to it.  I just need to get my focus up.

"80's", "horror", "John Carpenter", "Pro Wrestler" - That's 4 things right there that makes it an awesome movie! Watch it with Escape from New York and Big Trouble in Little China and you have an awesome Saturday afternoon.

I like Escape from LA better.

in regards to recall, that's kind of where i am in my projection practices now.  my projections are weak, i lack control and they fade quickly.  while i do remember them well (as long as i don't fall asleep afterward), i don't accomplish much in them.

so the remedy to that is to strengthen your focus.  incidentally, inception was on tv yesterday and i watched the last half of it and leo said something that stood out at one point.  he was talking to the guy they were trying to do the inception on in the second level of the dream and he was trying to get him to remember what was happening in the first level of the dream like it was reality.  he said that remembering a dream is difficult and takes years of practice.

Years of practice.  I think that is an important thing to remember.  It takes time to train yourself to not only remember your dreams and projections clearly, but also to have full clarity and perceptual ability while in that state.  It's all about your ability to remain fully focused on what you're doing and where you are.  You have to be able to fully immerse yourself in the environment you're in with the exclusion of everything else, even the fact that you're not in waking reality.

I think a regular meditative practice is your best bet for this.  Whether it's sitting on the floor in full lotus chanting some mantra, christian prayer, or my personal favorite, walking.  There is a walking technique that Don Juan teaches in the Castaneda books in which you find an open area and just walk.  The trick is to not focus on any one thing in particular.  Let your gaze wander.  Inhibit yourself from focusing on your external world and just walk.  It sounds strange, but you're really just practicing tuning out everything expect for the action that you're doing, which is walking.  It's best to do it in an open area like a park or on a straight track where you will be safe, since you're not paying much attention to your environment.  This is like a zen walking exercise.  I like it.  But do whatever you like.  Something that will allow you to practice excluding everything except for one thought, one action, for an extended amount of time.

I've seen about two thirds of the film, it was boring and all over the place. There was this scene where he started a fist fight with someone and I decided to do something else instead, it bored me. Good concept, just badly produced.

I mean, it was the 80's, it was a "horror flick" by John Carpenter, and it stars a wrestler.  I wouldn't expect a fantastic film necessarily, but like you said, the concept is good.  And for john carpenter to be making a movie about that concept in the 80's was a good thing.

Finally sat down and watched 'They Live' haha I liked it, the concept is spot on, if not taken too literally obviously. I thought some of the acting, was a bit errrm... yeah.  I loved the long fight seen when he was trying to make him put on the glasses, good metaphor for the struggle it is trying to force someone to 'see' the madness in the world who doesn't want to. 8/10 I love the concept.

I nearly turned it off during that fight.  If I weren't so into the alien/conspiracy thing, I probably would have.  That fight was too long.  I mean, yeah, the metaphor was great.  But damn.  It was like a 10 minute fight over some sunglasses.

Try this.

Get up at 6:00-7:00am on a day you have free time, flexibility.  Get up and go about your day.  Try to do something physical that will use up a little energy in mind and body.  It could be anything from running some errands to working a shift at work.  Just something that will get you moving around and will tire both your mind and body, but just a little.  Have a light lunch.  You want to be full, but not stuffed and bloated.  You just don't want your stomach grumbling or any kind of weakness or anything from not having enough sugar or something.

Relax a little, maybe have some hot tea, chamomile, something caffeine free.  Wait until you feel just the tiniest bit sleepy, like you could take an afternoon nap.  For me, the best time seems to be around 4:00pm.  But as long as you feel a little sleepy, like you could take a power nap, that's good enough.

Lay down somewhere comfortable.  I use my bed, but a cushy recliner or couch is fine.  I wouldn't recommend the floor, you tend to be sore when you're done.  I use a MindFold to block out the light, but if it doesn't bother you, you can just tie a bandana loosely around your head or lay a thick cloth over your eyes, anything to block the light.  Have a good stretch, just like you would do when you're going to bed or waking up.  Take about 10 deep breaths and just calm yourself down, relax and let the tension in your muscles go.  Now you want to do some kind of progressive relaxation.  If you don't any, just focus on each major muscle group in your body and tense then release, slowly.  Start with your toes, then ankles, calves, thighs, butt, back, fingers, hands, arms, neck, then your face (mouth, eyes, forehead).  Tense slowly (but not too tight so you don't get a cramp), hold for a few seconds then slowly release.  I like to count to 5 while i'm tensing, hold for 5, then count to 5 as i release.  After that, take a few more deep breaths and visualize relaxing energy coming into your whole body on the inhale and chaotic stressful energy leaving your body on exhale (some people will say visualize white for relaxing energy and black for tension, i don't teach that because i find black or deep purple energy more relaxing when i visualize.  i just let the exhale color be whatever it's gonna be.  its usually like a dirt color or like a putrid yellow or green.) and see the stress leaving your whole body as you relax deeper and deeper.  Now I'll usually replicate that falling feeling with my mind.  You want to try to really feel the sensation in your body.  Since you're familiar with it, it shouldn't be too hard with a little practice and experimentation to find the right mental action that brings about the feeling.  While you do this, focus your mind either on an external object (like the sound of a fan or a visualized object above your body, like a simple white block or something) or on the space directly behind your mind's eye and in between your ears.  Now just continue doing that and "act like you're going to sleep".  Let yourself go like you're going to sleep, but keep the slightest bit of awareness.  I find that just the strong intention to project, or just knowing that's what you're trying to do is all I need to keep from actually falling asleep.  You might nod off a bit here or there, and that's ok, just don't let yourself fall too deeply asleep.  Before long you'll feel your energy sensations, tingles, buzzing, ears ringing.  And you know what to do from there, normal projection stuff.

Give something like that a try, it might help.

11:11 or 1:11 shouldn't have anything to do with this.  1, is the number of the individual and represents the higher self.  11 is considered a master number in numerology and represents your higher self or spirit guide or whatever you call your self.  if it pops up a lot, it could mean that your self is telling you something.  but you'll have to figure out the specifics.

I've been on the Pulse for a long time and I've never come across this thread before, which I'm surprises me.  Nevertheless, it caught my eye tonight because of the title.  I'm a big fan of a series of fantasy novels by Terry Goodkind called the "Sword of Truth" series.  The author also recently started a series that exists in the same world as the sword of truth series, only 2000 years in the past.  Anyway, in these series, there are beings that were created by magic called "dream walkers" that are able to slip in the spaces between people's thoughts and ultimately control their minds.  They can just watch and listen, going completely unnoticed by the victim, or they can make themselves fully known in the mind of another person and literally control them.  They can kill the victim at anytime with just a thought.  In Goodkind's most recent book, "The First Confessor (The Legend of Magda Searus)", the story of the first dreamwalkers is told.  How they were created and what they do.

It was just such a strange coincidence to come inside at 2:30am after sitting outside reading about dreamwalkers for an hour and see this thread for the first time, even though it's been here for over a year.  Such an interesting bit of synchronistic intersections of archetypal ideas.  Dreams walkers, walkers between the worlds, maybe even the minds of others.  Interesting indeed.  Thank you for this.  It will keep my mind busy for a while.

I heard this guy Dr. Goldberg speak on Coast to Coast AM and I was definitely not impressed with what he had to say. He was full of ego and basically said his way was the only way. His private sessions are $400.00 and he says for most cases a maximum of 5 three hour sessions is all that is needed to complete his training. That's $2000.00 for his complete training.

I'm completely with you on that one.  He's full of himself and he's trying to brand himself sooo much that it's annoying.

However, he is a good hypnotherapist and all you need is one of his books and you get all the basics for learning self hypnosis.  If you're smart, it's not hard to create your own scripts after reading one of his books.

But, like I said, you can learn to do the same thing for free online.  I used to just go to borders or barnes and noble and just walk around the metaphysical/spirituality sections until a book popped out at me (I have actually had books fall off the shelf in front of me and I just stopped and bought them).  Goldberg was one of those authors.  I found his book helpful, but I agree that he's egotistical and charges outrageous prices for his private sessions.  A person could make plenty of money charging like a dollar an hour or something.  I worked with psychics, a hypnotist and even a mentalist who all made a perfectly decent living like that.

I have Goldberg's book, "Astral Voyages"... I wasn't very impressed with it.

It has solid self-hypnosis scripts in it.  I took classes at college on hypnosis, and some workshops by private instructors, one from A.R.E. in Norfolk, and based on what I've learned about hypnosis, his methods are good.  The problem is that he could care less about the subjects of his scripts.  He just picks "hot" topics like projection or "connecting with your higher self" and writes a book about them.  His books are practically all the same. I think he's got like one book written and he just changes the details to reflect the subject that he's trying to sell.  But, the techniques are legit.

Again, you can learn for free online.

If you sleep 15 hours every day you might have hormone imbalances or something, but otherwise, it's not a problem.

I've only had sleep paralysis a few times in my life and I don't use it for projection purposes (and don't really like people being taught to try to achieve sleep paralysis, but that's an old argument and if it works for you, it works).  So I can't speak to the paralysis much from personal experience.

Are you unable to project now?

Do the vibrations not come at all for you now? (if they used to)

This is the problem with relying on "signposts" like paralysis and vibrations to achieve projection.  If they stop for some unknown reason, you stop projecting.  (I use them too though, so I'm not saying don't do it, just that this is the downside)

I would try a new technique before I spent money or anything.

Last not least, parapsychologist Dean Radin has interesting things to say about that 'prize' offered by 'debunkers':

http://deanradin.blogspot.de/2010/07/compassion-for-skeptics.html

I got his book Entangled Minds and it sat on my bookshelf for years and then I finally read it like last year for no apparent reason.  I like the guy.  My academia experience is focused in parapsychology/transpersonal psychology and we don't get much slack.  I had a psychological statistics professor (who I was a really good teacher that I liked a lot) announce to the whole class that it was their job to convince me not to go into parapsychology as a career field (after she asked me what my psychological interest was).  She was kind of a grump about it honestly.  But she made a the valid point that it's harder to get work in parapsychology, though she wasn't being sympathetic about it, she agreed and told me that parapsychologists deserved to be blacklisted and that they gave "hard" scientists like herself a bad name.

Her claim to fame is research on how smoking is bad for you.  I asked her if she really felt that it was better to spend our tax dollars and tuition money on proving that cigarettes are bad for you, when we've known for 40+ years how bad they are for you, or if we ought to consider focusing on finding the answers to the REAL questions people have about the human condition and the mind.  She dismissed the question and made fun of me for "believing in ghosts" (which I don't).

I can only name one person out there who combines hypnosis with teaching astral projection, which is why it's interesting to me. For those of us who have additional different issues than the average person who tries this, it's quite possible it may be of help.

Dr. Bruce Goldberg teaches you to create your own self hypnosis scripts for astral projection with a simple digital recorder.  His book is like 20 bucks.  He does all kinds of hypnosis scripts though.  Probably even has a penis enlargement book.

I used to stack his hypnosis scripts over top of binural beats, I found it to be very effective.  I would start with a simple binural for relaxation, then drop it to something to take you deeper and then record hypnosis scripts over them.  The binurals are nearly inaudible and hypnosis seems to be more effective when the script is recorded in your own voice (your subconscious likes the way you sound; and i say that it seems more effective because i don't have any scientific research to provide as evidence, but i've found it to be accurate).

However, once you learn to write these kind of scripts (which you can learn to do for free online), it's really easy to write your own scripts for whatever purpose.  People don't really acknowledge it much, but any of Monroe's programs that have him talking to you, telling you what to do, are basically hypnotism scripts.  The only difference is that he uses binurals to get your mind into the right state, whereas a hypnotist uses phrases and your own will to get the job done.

...and from there it's all about inner work, which is a personal journey - it almost seems sacrilegious to be expected to spend money for it.
quite.

Carl Jung proposed Active Imagination for the same purposes.  Call it modern day magick.  It wasn't about producing knocks and such, but planting those seeds in the subconscious and directly confronting it and remolding it.  The ends being transformation of your reality in many ways, mostly that yourself and your reality become healthy.

Don't even have to project to do it.  It's akin to phasing.  You just get into the first steps of projection/phasing and hold there.  It's an interesting technique, though he didn't use it in practice to my knowledge.  He used it himself and taught it, but I don't think he really used it in a clinical setting very much.  I think it came to him later in his life after retirement.

The Secret Teachings of Plants: The Intelligence of the Heart in the Direct Perception of Nature - by Stephen Harrod Buhner

What do you mean by OUR history?  I may have suggestions for that too.

kind of "the secret"ish for me, but true.

worth consideration.

I hope that the word you got isn't related to the wiki entry you found, that thing sounds nasty, not that i believe in ghosts that kill people.  But still, that's quite a subconscious image to put in your mind.

I too have similar things happen sometimes, but usually I initiate with a request and happen to get an answer in my mind.

But I echo Szaxx, look at your environment, see if something clicks.  You know, synchronicity and all that.
#116
It's difficult to tell you what you experienced, you know?  We can do our best based on our collective experiences, but projection, phasing, lucid dreaming, etc., is different for everyone.  There are some commonalities, but on the whole, I think that the mental actions necessary to achieve conscious projection of your consciousness can't be taught.  It's something you ultimately have to learn on your own, but there is guidance out there and we try to help as much as possible.

For example, I don't feel the strong earthquake vibrations that a lot of people and authors describe as "essential" to the experience.  When I exit my body (I project in the "traditional" sense of exiting the body as opposed to phasing where you mentally move yourself into another realm without having the "exit sensation") I feel a very fine vibration, very intense but acute, not big like a rumble but more like full body pins & needles.  The point is, its difficult to say if you experienced something near projection or if you just felt energy moving in your body.

But, you say you pick up quick and you've been researching obsessively, and you may be one of those "lucky ones" that takes to it easily.  Took me about 2 years of off and on practice, research and experimentation.  Then, even after I was successful, I had difficulties in maintaining projection for any length of time and some other things.  So, like your boyfriend, I got frustrated and I quit for a while.  That was two years ago.  I just started again recently and it all came back very quick, but I'm still in the same place and have to put in more work.  So I'm one of the "unlucky" ones in a sense.  It doesn't come as easily for me.

However, theoretically I know pretty much everything about projection from almost any perspective you could imagine, from the traditional occult theories to the shamanic and indigenous practices and more.  So I hope I can be of assistance theoretically, but like I said, in the end, what I've learned to be paramount is the subjective nature of the experience.  Experimentation and self-discovery is essential in the process and you seem to have the spirit for that, so keep at it.  Keep the mystery and fantasy about it fresh, it keeps your intent and will strong, which will really help you.

Ultimately, my best words of wisdom are, don't be afraid of anything, don't be superstitious, you are a strong being that is untouchable as long as you believe you are always safe, that's all the protection you need.  This is your show, you run it; believe that and everything will be great.  Good luck, and I hope we can help.
#117
Sounds like a good plan.

I'll do it.

The only reason I say to be cautious is because there is a lot of disinformation out there.  The conspiracy is rubbed in our faces daily because most of us are that deluded.  But the details are scrambled, they speak in symbols.  But you hit the nail on the head, it's all about connecting dots to see the bigger picture.

I would say that the easier the information is to find, the more cautious I would be with how much of it I believed.  But again, dots.  The more you put together, the easier it becomes to spot good information from questionable information.
#119
You're already familiar with your exit and the unique state of mind when that happens, so you're way ahead of the curve.

I think working on self-induced/conscious exit would be a good step for you now.

Szaxx's solutions are good too because they utilize the method you're already good with.

Of course, there is always the idea that your "self" (whatever that is to you) has chosen to take a break for some reason.  I think everyone needs balance in their life and maybe you needed to focus on some physical things for a little while.

@Mini Stapler:

I highly recommend a couple books if you're interested in ancient astronauts.

William Bramley - "Gods of Eden"
Michael Tsarion - "Atlantis, Alien Visitation and Genetic Manipulation"
Joseph P. Farrell - "Genes, Giants, Monsters and Men"
Zecharia Sitchin - "The Twelfth Planet" (which is book 1 in a series; they are worth reading, but there are some big criticisms with Sitchin)
Erik Von Daniken - "Chariots of the Gods" (this was his first one, but he's written dozens and dozens of books since the 60's)
(Sitchin & Daniken were some of the pioneers of the ancient astronaut theory in the mainstream)
Michael Tellinger - "Slave Species of God"

Keep in mind that theories vary and most authors tend to take leaps of imagination to give their work continuity, which leads to some criticisms.

Here are some other authors that are worth checking out:

Phillip Coppens
Michael A. Cremo (he's a good one, but go for his revised book "The Hidden History of the Human Race" rather than "Forbidden Archaeology" because Forbidden Archaeology is a HUGE book and its dense and sometimes boring.  The Hidden History is a condensed version of Forbidden Archaeology.)

Christopher Dunn
Robert Bauval
Graham Hancock
Edward F. Malkowski
Richard L. Thompson

Again, I should stress that any one author should be taken with a grain of salt.  However, once you read a bunch of books from different authors on the subject, you get a much better idea of the theory and can better identify the reasonable arguments from the ridiculous ones.

A lot of the ancient astronaut theories tend to intersect and mingle with conspiracy theories, so be prepared for that too.

Thanks for your responses.

I've always had insomnia which makes my normal sleep irregular and i often have to take sleeping pills to sleep at all.  So, I don't really remember my dreams often because I'm typically so groggy when I wake up (from the medication).  Because of that, I have very little experience with lucid dreams so the experience I had seemed unusual to me.

I'll have to admit, I've had dozens of projections since I first started successfully projecting, but they are always short and I never get very far.  I've become very experienced at achieving projection, but I have little experience beyond my exit.  I know what to do, I've read every book out there practically, I just need to practice more.  When I actually started successfully projecting I got distracted in my life and just stopped.  Now I can start where I left off and move further into the other dimensions of reality.
#122
I wasn't going to post any of this, because it's already on my journal so it really isn't necessary, but I have a question.

I had 2 projections today, here's what happened:

(sorry for the tl;dr)

#1 - I rolled out of my body and stood up in my room.  At first movement was very sluggish and I fell a few times before being able to get my bearings.  Saying that I fell is a little misleading because I wasn't really walking at all, I was floating.  So really I was getting flipped around in the air and feeling like I was falling because it felt like gravity was re-orienting itself and I was having trouble adjusting.  After a few moments I oriented myself and walked to my bedroom doorway, from which I could see my dining room and kitchen.  When I looked into these rooms they bother appeared as bedrooms with large beds in them.  Each room had a different color scheme, but they were otherwise fairly similar.  Just a plain room with a big bed in the middle.  The color schemes were a bit odd though.  I'm not entirely clear on them, but the dining room was definitely plaid - wall paper, carpet, and everything on the bed; the color I'm unsure of, but it was a warm color (something in the yellows, greens, oranges, reds, etc.).  The kitchen had a blue decor, but I can't remember the pattern.  I was a little confused at seeing my kitchen and dining room as bedrooms, so I rounded the corner and looked in the living room, and sure enough it was a bedroom too.  The walls were wood grain paneling and the bed was all cream colored, but the front door was still where it always is (unlike the doors that are normally in the other rooms), so I made my way for it.  I jumped through the front door and I was in my driveway, but the barns around my house weren't there.  It was just like a dirt road in the middle of the woods at night.  I could see some stars above me through the trees and began walking.  I took a few steps and then blacked out and was back in my body.

#2 - I woke up and took off my mindfold and looked at the clock, which said 8:38.  I was confused by that because I had set an alarm to go off at 8:00, but with my earplugs in I assumed that I just didn't hear the alarm and it just snoozed itself (which my phone's alarm does if it goes off for a while and you don't turn it off).  So I got up and went to the kitchen.  In the kitchen I saw a pan of cooked chicken tenders on the stove.  That's when I asked myself how I cooked chicken tenders if I started projection practice at 5:00pm and it's now after 8:30pm and no one else was at home.  At first I thought that I had put them in and let them cook while I practiced, but realized that made no sense because they would have been burned up little black charred nothings if they cooked for 3&1/2 hours.  It suddenly occurred to me that I was still projecting or perhaps lucid dreaming since this seemed to be a false awakening and I didn't remember having any of my normal exit sensations.  Then I was back in my body and decided to stop while I could still remember the experiences.

the details are mostly unimportant.  what i want to know is if you guys think the second experience was a lucid dream or a projection.  to me it felt like i just woke up and got up like normal, though the experience seemed a little "fuzzier" than waking reality, I thought I was awake.  i didn't realize it was a false awakening until later.

now i know this is kind of splitting hairs, but i'm curious.  do you think the second experience was an LD or a projection?  I didn't have my normal exit sensation/experience, it just felt like i was coming out of trance and waking up.  But then things went weird and I was back in body waking up again.  i guess it doesn't really matter, but i was wondering what others thought.
#123
Welcome.

Call it whatever you want, it's irrelevant.  The label doesn't change the experience.  Just do what you do and keep at it.
#124
Indeed.

My screen name is my philosophy, Personalreality.  You've got a unique reality experienced through a subjective perception and there is nothing outside of yourself that will "get you there".  All your answers are there if you look.
