From what I understand we normally don't go to astral when we dream.  Our etheric body hovers above our physical body(usually mimicking it) and most of our dreams happen in our head.

But projecting from a lucid dream is actually(at the moment) the only way I can project(I am glad I lucid dream a lot!).  I assume I could go to the astral plane or higher but want to have some more projections under my belt.

Maybe this isn't exactly what you are looking for but have you read any philosophy?

After I read about Buddha things started coming together for me.  Buddhism(not sure if you are familiar with it) is NOT a religion and there are no gods or anything.  Buddha is not someone who is holy or to be worshiped.  It's just a way of right thinking.  Best way I can describe it is with a lot of Christian(and probably other) churches they tell you, "Take THIS key, walk down THIS path, open THIS door, and that is THE only way."  Where as when you read about Buddha you start to realize that there are other keys and other paths and other doors.  And conflicts soon come to end.

It has changed my life in so many ways.  From that I found parts of Christianity that suit me(there are still a lot of things I disagree with) such as Jesus.  I know he is a part of me.

Taoism and Confucism are also very good.

I understand your point and if someone is totally dedicated to being a pacifist and they, instead of fight, just say calmly,"rob me instead" or "rape me instead', then props to them.  But I couldn't do that.

Say for instance someone attacked my wife.  I couldn't just say attack me instead or just jump on top of her and take the hits.  To me the best thing to do would be to beat up the guy then call the cops.  Diffuse the situation as fast and quick as possible.  And to be able to come home in one piece.

Or if I didn't have a wife and someone just came at me.  I wouldn't just stand there, I would retaliate.  I am not saying any of this is right but it's what is right for me.

I agree with what Jesus said about turning the other cheek.

But with violence everywhere this is one reason I take martial arts.  It's sad that I live in a society where me and my teacher beat up each other every week so other people can't.

It don't think it's possible to live a life 100% free of conflict.  Because there are going to be people out there that are so conflicted within themselves that they must bring pain to others.  And you might just happen to be one of those people.

So far I have avoided physical conflicts in my life.  That is because a lot of things.  I try to have a certain amount of love for every person.  I have confidence in myself that if it came down to a fight I think I could win a lot, but knowing that it is a LAST resort.  And just avoiding bad places.  I don't do drugs, drink, or surround myself with negative people.

A lot of times walking away is the best thing to do.  Sometimes you have to get up and fight though.  If you saw some punk robbing an old man you can't just walk away.  Or a chick getting raped in an alley.   Maybe the other guy has a weapon but that is why I train in martial arts.  And(worst case scenario obviously) even if I died doing that, I don't think that's too bad of a way to go.  I would MUCH rather sacrifice myself protecting someone out of love then dying of cancer or a car crash or something.

On the top part of the knee itself.  But my other knee and spine as well...

I asked my Kung Fu teacher but he wasn't sure so I will ask it here.  The last 2 times I meditated(I was at work) and both times afterwords I feel sun burnt on my knees and spine especially.  They are both red and very hot for some reason.  It's not a constant burning or really any pain just it feels like I got a small sunburn on them.  Most of the rest of my body is fine and my normal temperature.  What is causing this?

I popped out my kneecap last year but it is doing it to both knees plus my spine so I don't think it's that...Any help would be appreciated.

The rope technique didn't work for me either man.

I always get astral sight before I get out of my body then it's just a matter of putting my astral hands on my door and pulling myself free.  That seems the most effective way for me.

Welcome to Out of Body Experiences! / Two Questions
December 09, 2004, 19:24:40
Well I had my 4th OBE and now I really don't have much fear at all of projecting.  Going outside in the side in the sun really helped!

First question is, are my hand's supposed to be ethereal looking?  When I went outside I saw my dog and petted her but it felt like I was petting her.  Where as what I have heard is that your hand goes through them.  I can't remember what my hand looked like but it FELT solid.  Can that happen?

And second question I asked for my spirit guide and a "sprinkler" like stream of water came on then stopped and then nothing happened.  I looked around for a minute and then just went back to my body.  Maybe I was just expecting something and that happened?  I don't know.  Sorry to ask so many questions.  Thanks.

Welcome to Metaphysics! / My own aura
December 09, 2004, 10:00:11
I recently discovered how to see my own aura.  I haven't tried to read anyone/anything else's.  But I have a question.  The first time I saw my aura, which was yesterday, it was a light blue.  Now today it was a light purple.  I thought we had a predominant aura.  Why would it change?  I am hoping it's a good thing.

Both times it was done after meditation.  And I only looked at my hands not my whole body.  I just put a piece of white paper in front of my hands.  I will try to look at my head when I get a chance.  But any help would be appreciated.

Okay who has had an OBE through Lucid dreaming before?  Now if your tired does it ever seem like you get an OBE with a lot of dream like things?  Or are in an OBE and then it just turns into a dream?

Because I am pretty certain I had an OBE it just got really weird.  I asked for my body again, vibrations, grabbing out, etc.  Like I floated out like normal down my hallway and around a little to get the hang of things(it's only like my second or third OBE if in fact it was one) and ran into a wall on accident.  I floated down along side it past the window and saw a mirror(which isn't there) kind of by where my TV is in my living room(except the mirror was resting on the ground).  And I saw my "self" in a ghostly manner.  Only it had my eyes but the face and "hair" was that of a little girl.  It almost looked like a ghostly cabbage patch kid with my eyes.  And then things started getting even more dream like I pulled out a piece of paper and asked who I used to be and I lost it from there...

I think after I floated down past the window everything just went to crap.  I haven't had enough sleep for the past day or so, so it's possible I just went into a dream.

I think one of the biggest problems is relaxation.  If I am in a lotus position, indian-style, or sitting in a chair I can't get to where I normally get laying down.  I can get to about where you are but no further if I am in those positions.  I realized that my neck/throat is pretty tense during those and that's a huge problem.

To me it seems the most efficient way to project is find the least comfortable position that you could JUST BARELY fall asleep at.  Like for me it would be a recliner at about a 65 degree angle.  There my neck is supported and it won't tense up.  It's hard for me to fall asleep anywhere but a bed.

So I would say make sure every part of you is relaxed in the position that you are in.  And be mindful of your thoughts and see if deep down you have too much fear or anxiety(about projecting or anything really).

I understand your point.  But some things can be seen don't actually exist.  And others that can't be seen do exist.  Visual sight does not equal truth.
#214
I am pretty sure in Astral Dynamics it said sometimes you might not see your body on reentry.  Even if that wasn't the case I probably wouldn't have saw it anyway.  My blanket goes past my chin and I have a pillow on top of my head.  So the only thing "revealed" would be some of my mouth which the pillow would cast a shadow on.

I know dreams and I know lucid dreams.  This was NOTHING like either one.  It was an OBE.

Thanks for the good luck everyone.  I could of had another one today!  I was in a lucid dream and I was thinking okay cool I am going to ask for my body but then something told me I was almost already awake so I had to wait a while.  So I said okay make me lucid in 10 minutes but that didn't work...

I wouldn't feel bad if it takes a few years or so.  I probably had them when I was a kid and didn't know it.  I realized about a week ago when I was in middle school I was about to have an OBE.  I thought there was a demon in my room(he said "hear my voice" and started yelling other stuff but I was too busy praying) and there was the same wind sound that I know hear.  When it was probably just an astral voice.

Maybe after 5-10 OBE's I will ask for my spirit guide.  I think I need to play it cool right now and just learn how to move around and have some control.

After about 3 or 4 weeks of trying to project I did it!  It was a little scary at first but exciting too.  I only did it for under 10 seconds like Robert Bruce suggested(good advice too because the memory of it is similar to a dream).

Basically I had been getting lucid dreams pretty often now.  And someone here suggested I say "take me to my body now!" and lo and behold I woke up mentally but not physically and the sinking feeling, followed by the wind sound and vibrations(They were pretty mild actually).  Then I could see my astral hands in front of me.  I tried to do the rope technique but that didn't work.  So what I did was reach for the edge of my door that was a little open and pull(that took a little bit of effort).  And then I popped right out.  Gave a quick prayer floated down the hallway and then I don't think I said anything but just thought of my body and started to fly back inside(I didn't see my body) and shouted "I will remember this".

I was half expecting something waiting for me when I popped out. Like a lower astral being or something.  I was ready to tell him off.  But there wasn't one.

So any recommendations on how soon I start exploring, asking for my spirit guide, and all that stuff?  Should my next few projections be ultra short as well?
#217
I think you might be right that I had one and I didn't even know it.  Because I remember seeing ghostly looking hands in front of me that I knew were my own(unless that was part of the dream too. However in any other dream my hands always looked like my real hands).

And I realized after reading Robert's book that I almost(or have had) an OBE when I was a kid.  I heard the wind rushing sounds and heard a "demon" yelling at me which I believe now to be astral noise.  So I would assume if I have had success(or partial success) when I was a kid it wouldn't be as difficult now...

I agree about the Buddhism or Taoism.

I had what I thought was a crappy life too man.  But reading about Buddha then eventually reading about Jesus helped me SO much.  And not to mention meditation.  Now I love my life.  I only have a couple friends and not really much family but the ones I do have I care about.  And I have food, a house, I am in good health.  What isn't there to be thankful for?

In Christianity they say if you kill yourself you will go to hell.  In Buddhism they say that is the worst thing you can do because its deicide.  Meaning your body is a god and your killing a god.  I haven't studied Islam, Hinduism, or Judaism yet but I am going to assume they have a similar penalty in the afterlife.  Chances are if you killed yourself you would go to some type of hell realm.  Nobody wants that.

Everybody has about 80 problems in their life.  Money or Sex or anything like that is never going to cure you of those.  You just have to be aware of them and they will soon become smaller and smaller.

I recommend reading any books on Buddhism or taoism.  Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen is a really good book.  Or Living Buddha Living Christ by Thich Nhat Hanh is excellent too.  Hope that helped.

Thank you.  That makes me feel better.  Ever since my chi "came together" I don't have any hate.  And even people that have wronged me I love in a way because I am just as capable of doing the same thing I have made mistakes as well.  So I don't think I will attract anything bad.

Hello all.  I had a question about OBE's.  Well I practice Kung Fu and my teacher has had at least one(that he has told me about) successful OBE and warned me to be a little cautious when I do it because something could possess me.  I asked him how he knew and he said HIS master told him and gave him that warning.  And his master could supposedly do all these different things with his Chi and what not.  Which I don't believe my teacher would lie.

However I just finished reading Astral Dynamics and Robert Bruce explains how your body is just as safe as when you are awake.  I told my teacher that and he said he disagreed.  He said it is your soul you project and made an analogy to that of a person in a coma.  So it's not that I don't trust my teacher but I am getting conflicting information(and maybe he is misinformed).

So what is the truth?  I am not afraid of it happening but I just want to know the truth.

Hello I am new to the board obviously.  I had a question about an OBE.  First I haven't been able to have one yet(I have been trying for about a month).  But every time I try to do it I get closer.  The last time I had one I got to the point of my body vibrating and the sound of wind rushing.

Anyway I was in the middle of a dream when I became lucid.  And I have read that if you run super fast into a wall it's possible to have an OBE.  So I was like what the heck.  After about 4 times I hit the wall then fell to the ground.  I felt the sinking feeling then vibrations and the wind rushing sound(plus I could see without my eyes being open, however the room looked a little different) and it lasted longer than last time but I tried doing the rope technique thing but it didn't work at all.  But then after my attempt I "woke up" in a dream and turned on my lamp(which I don't have) and started saying dammit!

So my question is was that a dream?  Is it possible to experience all the same things just in a dream state and not actually having an OBE?  Or was I just tired and after my attempt I just went back to sleep and my dream mind started going again?
